Best Dressed at MET Costume Gala 2018: Heavenly Bodies – Fashion and the Catholic Imagination

Last night (May 7) marked the annual MET Costume Gala 2018, which took place at its traditional venue of the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City. Every year I look forward to the first Monday in May, because it means it’s time for this gala, as well as all of the extravagant and extraordinary fashion moments! This is one of the biggest nights on the red carpet calendar, and one of the biggest nights in the fashion industry, with attendees really diving into the fashion statements. This year’s theme of “Heavenly Bodies – Fashion and the Catholic Imagination” has made headlines due to its controversial religious aspect, while this year bad gal Rihanna will join Donatella Versace and Amal Clooney as co-chairs to the gala. Read on to see who has topped this year’s Killer Fashion Best Dressed List from the MET Costume Gala 2018!

Killer Fashion Choice

Each year I do try to choose a design and designer that adheres to the theme, but admittedly the theme of “Heavenly Bodies – Fashion and the Catholic Imagination” was a toughie, especially as only choosing one look. However, one designer’s looks that did not disappoint is Dolce & Gabbana, and therefore for this year’s MET Costume Gala I have chosen this Dolce & Gabbana Autumn/Winter 2013 Ready to Wear dress.

After looking through the fashion archives, this midi dress stood out as ‘the one’ for the red carpet for me, as I love its gold and black colours, as well as the contrasting lace top and full skirt. Of course, there’s the religious aspect of the artistic motif, a heavy design of this D&G collection, which is beautifully enhanced by the mosaic details. I feel this look appropriately suits the theme this year, from the peekaboo of the lace top to the colours that reflect the church, and I would absolutely ensure the gold accessories would also be present on the red carpet.
