Best Dressed at MET Costume Gala 2017: Rei Kawakubo x Comme des Garçons – Art Of The In-Between

Last night (May 1), the annual MET Costume Gala 2017 took place at its traditional venue of the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City. This is one of my favourite red carpets to watch, because it’s the occasion when the attendees push their fashion boundaries, showcase drastic changes and just look phenomenal! And this year’s turn out did not disappoint at all, in fact I was surprised by many looks and many ladies. This year’s theme was “Art Of The In-Between”, and the honourary was Japanese designer Rei Kawakubo of Comme des Garçons, an extraordinary woman whose avant-garde designs have challenged conventional notions of beauty, good taste, and fashionability that experiment with the “in-betweenness” of fashion and art. Check out who has topped this year’s Killer Fashion Best Dressed List from both women and men!

Please note: Due to work commitments there won’t be a full write up for this post! xx

Killer Fashion Choice

It’s hard to just choose one gown for this occasion, but in tribute to Rei Kawakubo, I opted for this look from the Comme des Garçons Spring/Summer 2015 RTW collection. The flyaway straps, those oversized roses, the hues of red & pink are all features of what I love about this look. Easily styled with a metallic waistbelt and a sheer slip dress, sky high pointed pumps and Geisha red lipstick, this would be my red carpet entrance.

The Best Dressed

Can Blake Lively do any wrong? The answer is no, and especially since she stepped onto the carpet donning this creation by Atelier Versace. The custom-made gown featured stunning draped gold beading all over, with exaggerated shoulders, a plunging v-neckline, with a fitted waist that cascaded down into an ombré of gold-into-blue feathers. The train of this dress was beautiful by itself, but just added to the already gorgeous gúna the actress wore. Gold & blue Lorraine Schwartz jewels complimented her choice, alongside a fuss-free ponytail, gold shimmer eyeshadow and nude lipstick. I am just in awe, and so in love with Blake in this look, from head to toe!

Emma Roberts looked stunning in her red dress choice, designed by Diane von Furstenberg. The fitted bodice, the v-cut on the neckline with the lace peekaboo under the bust and that train. This is such a beautiful look for the young actress, teamed with a baby pink faux fur stole and matching pink & red pearl & gold-chain handbag, also by Diane von Furstenberg. With jewellery by Monique Pean, her brunette hair was a fuss-free straight style, with exaggerated lashes, pink-hue along the lashline and a matte mauve pink lipstick to round up MET Costume Gala attire. Beautiful!
