The 7th annual Austin Fashion Week will kick off this coming weekend with its aptly named Kickoff event. Providing Austin with a dose of fashionable showcases and parties, it follows in the steps of the famous New York Fashion Week to host Texas’ largest fashion event, and is the one of the most highly anticipated festivals in the Southern United States. Over a hundred events are scheduled, showcasing the best of the Texan fashion industry from fashion designers to photographers, makeup artists and stylists. Austin Fashion Week will take place April 10th – 18th downtown around the city at various events. I’m delighted to be in Austin during AFW, and will be attending Kickoff and hopefully more events too!
They aren’t wrong when they say “everything is bigger in Texas!”
On Friday 10th April, the festival’s opening party takes place in Speakeasy at 7pm, with General Admission tickets still available. The Congress Avenue venue will host an indulgent night of cocktails & canapés, giving attendees the chance to mingle with other fashionistas but also take in the beautiful creations by Mash Up Teams who have produced a style show for the competition. The Mash Up teams consists of 34 designs teams that boast 20th Century fashion, which will come to life on large canvas prints and displayed throughout Speakeasy for up-close & personal inspection. Nine stylists will be on hand for the models with hair & makeup provided by Urban Betty and Face Kandy respectively.
The Austin Fashion Fund, which was established in 2014, supports local emerging designers who show incredible talent. During AFW 2015, the Austin Fashion Fund will grant at least one emerging designer a package from Bernina and many other partners to ensure their future success. The public can support and attend AFW with a special Austin Fashion Fund Supporter donation ticket that gives them access to an exclusive VIP package which includes VIP tickets to the Kickoff event, tickets to one of the main shows, premium seating, access to the VIP lounge, VIP gift wall, open bar, heavy apps and desserts, and designer meet and greets post event!
The Austin Fashion Week schedule will include an exclusive Brunch presented by Noonday Collection on Saturday 11th April, followed by various official Soirees (formerly called ‘Showcase Events’) around the city throughout the day; runway shows by head-turning fashion designers will take place at Discover on Thursday 16th April in the Austin Music Hall; STARS presented by Bernina on Friday 17th April will be attended by some of the most popular designers from Project Runway; and ending on Saturday 18th April, the Finale show (formerly the AFW Awards) presents prestigious awards to recipients, will feature the Mash Up designs come to life on the runway and showcase over 40 jewellery & accessories lines.
