Vodafone DIT Fashion Show & Young Designer Show

Vodafone DIT Fashion ShowOn Tuesday evening, the final for the Vodafone DIT Young Designer Show took place in Vicar Street, as part of the DIT Fashion Show 2015 in aid of the Jack & Jill Children’s FoundationAlthough I was invited, I couldn’t attend the fashion show as you know I’m on holidays in Austin, Texas. However I’m delighted to announce that the show was a success and that the winner of the Young Designer Show was revealed. (You’ll remember I attended the semi-finals in Smock Alley Theatre last month.)

The theme for this year’s show was “Cultural Fusion – Breaking Boundaries and Tradition”. Heading the Young Designer judging panel were recognizable Irish fashion gurus Brendan Courtney, Maria Fusco, Bairbra Power, Umit Kutluk, Jules Fallon & Lou Conlon. The competition was tough and all finalists had spectacular pieces on show, full of creative and obvious talent but there can only be one winner.

And the winner of Young Designer Show 2015 was… LAMIS GOUMAA!

Griffith College student Lamis Goumaa (Lamis Galica) was crowned the winner on Tuesday, with her design entitled “Fauna” taking first place. The menswear design was inspired by her huge interest in wolves, explaining that she looked into the surroundings of wolves & their habitats and came across ravens & deers and decided to do a menswear piece to symbolize the strength and courage these animals show in their life. Lamis Goumaa picks up her first place prize and a cash prize for €3,000! Congratulations!

Runners up in joint second place were Mollie Sinnott with her design “We Are the Flowers in Your Dustbin” and Shauna Harrisson with her design “Oriental Blossom”, and third place went to Alice Langton with her design “Craft Explorer”. Congratulations to all the ladies for their brilliant designs!

MC Rob Kenny kicked off the 12th annual Vodafone DIT Fashion Show, which was another success with a full house, flashing lights and music by Spin 1038. As organized by the DIT Fashion Society, the event showcased fashion from Irish & international brands across the city. The show closed with SG Sparkle Costume and Show Hire, for their Carnival theme along with falling confetti. Guests were treated to goodie bags that featured products from Red Bull, Popchips and Catrice Cosmetics.

The DIT Fashion Show have also just won the prize for the Best Poster Design at the Board of Irish College Societies Awards 2015, congratulations! Check out their poster at the start of this post!
