Best Dressed at IFTAs 2014

The 11th Irish Film & Television Awards were held Saturday night at The Double Tree by Hilton Hotel in Dublin, and my what a wondrous red carpet affair! The gorgeous Laura Whitmore & funny man Simon Delaney, whose opening monologue was rather funny, hosted the live televised show for RTÉ One. The award winners were a great crowd, full of sweet & short, funny acceptance speeches, and even our own Irish President Michael D. Higgins won an award! I’m very happy about how many of the Irish stars wore Irish designers, it just shows how much talent we have and that we all support one another.

Bold in Colour

Laura Whitmore kicked off the show in a beautiful white bodycon with red floral appliqué by John Rocha. She matches the floral detailing to her pinky-red lipstick and swept her hair into an updo. Later Laura changed into an LBD, donning up-and-coming Irish designer Oliver Doherty Duncan. This little number features an intricately embroidered high neck collar piece in contrasting beige, and cuts off at the knee.

Lorraine Keane sported a beautiful navy lace dress by Irish designer Marion Murphy-Cooney. Her lace v-cut bodice was very complimentary of the chiffon skirting, which Lorraine kept fuss-free with side swept waves, kohl-rimmed eyes and neutral makeup. She looked lovely!

TV3’s presenter Karen Koster looked great donning a canary yellow asymmetrical halter gown from Coast, with slight ruched detailing on the bodice. I love the styling Karen opted for, she teamed her straight & shiny do with turquoise gem drop earrings and wore a matching bracelet as well as a coral cuff. A great SS14 look for the red carpet!

Beautiful in Black

My favourite funny gal Jennifer Maguire looked sexy in a plunging black satin dress, with a thigh-high side split. Her vampy style was added to with a deep red lipstick and a chic updo, and in contrast Jennifer wore metallic glittered pumps. I really love this look on her; it suits her cheeky personality perfectly.

Gráinne and Síle Seoige looked wondrous at the IFTAs. The sisters both wore designs by Kerryman Don O’Neill for Theia Couture from the Fall 2013 Collection. Grainne wore a black vampy number with a pearl, floral & crystal embellished high neck collar piece that creates a sweetheart neckline; while Síle wore a bronze & black baroque patterned dress with capped sleeves, which is very reminiscent of Alexander McQueen. The sisters kept their styling similar with neutral makeup, dark eyes and berry red lipstick.

Fashion girl & TV presenter Angela Scanlon opted for floral embellishment, donning a John Rocha creation. Her black dress featured sheer ¾ sleeves with multicoloured floral appliqué on the bodice & skirt. The ‘Oi Ginger!’ presenter kept to her red roots with a swept-back updo, coral lippy & red nail polish. A youthful and pretty look indeed.

Aoibhinn McGinnity was hot in black, wearing a halter neck gown from Arnotts. Her satin gown features an embellished neck collar and waistband, with a slight keyhole detail on the front. Aoibhinn’s hair was fabulous, thanks to Brown Sugar; she had a voluminous twisted plait and quiff updo, which looked great on the young actress.

Kathryn Thomas wore a black full-length gown with a laser-cut bodice & high neckline and a fully feathered skirt, by Dublin-based Turkish designer Umit Kutluk. I really love the statement of this dress, and she kept with its theme donning dark eye makeup and a slicked back bun to finish the look. Kathryn also won Best Reality Programme for ‘Operation Transformation’ alongside the show’s team.

Ethereal Beauties

Madeline Mulqueen also opted for a romantic look, wearing a blush pink illusion dress from The Ivory Closet. Her dress featured embellished paneling on the shoulders, waist & décolletage with gathered chiffon on the bodice creating a plunging neckline illusion, and floor-length skirt. Madeline’s short hairdo really worked with this look, as did her smokey eye and patent box clutch.

Fellow TV3 & Xposé presenter, Glenda Gilson, looked truly beautiful in a romantic champagne lace gown. Her Cari’s Closet gown features a high neckline and all-over fluttered lace and embellished floral appliqué to add sparkle & shine, with an open low-scoop back. The silk waistbelt adds extra romance to this look, and Glenda kept the makeup dewy with sideswept waves and accessories by Stella & Dot. You can buy Glenda’s dress here.

Rugby’s First Lady, Amy Huberman, looked lovely wearing a Helen Cody creation. Her white tea dress features a sheer mesh rounded neckline, with an all-over circular petal detailing. She teamed the look with white peeptoe platform heels, smokey eye makeup and an updo for a chic, young look.

Other notable mentions include Kelly Thornton in a beige & gold sequin embellished gown, Victoria Smurfit in a vampy black v-cut embellished waistband look, Miriam O’Callaghan, Darren Kennedy who looked dapper in a three-piece Louis Copeland tweed suit, President Higgins & Sabina.
