I’ve been on many sun holidays and city breaks, but never before had I gone away for a specific winter holiday…until recently! In February, myself and Lorna jetted off to Borovets, Bulgaria to take on the snowy slopes for the first time and go skiing. It was such a joyous, thrilling and memorable holiday, and thankfully I was well wrapped up!
If you’re like me and have not been on a winter holiday before, Regatta Great Outdoors is the store to buy from! They have an array of stylish gear that’s ideal for Irish weather, whatever the heavens throw down upon us. From the light rain jackets to toasty puffer jackets, fleeces and hats, or leggings and rain-proof trousers, Regatta has everything! For the whole trip in Borovets, which you can read more about on Cookie FM, I stayed dry, nice and warm and really loved the styles by Dare2B*. This brand is bursting with beautiful fashionable but practical pieces that are ideal for skiing, winter sports as well as everyday outdoor activities. The Dare2B jacket I wore kept me ever so toasty throughout, while my ski pants and fleeces were great layers during skiing.
Base layers are a MUST! I was lucky enough to nab a comfy pair of base leggings, that should be comfortable but snug on the waist. As for base tops, long sleeve with a high neck are best, and I do recommend wearing sports bras instead of fashion bras…as you’ll sweat a lot but also it’s better support for your bust.
As for accessories, I do highly recommend wearing a neck gaitor, especially one that can tighten at the back and stay up while skiing (or snowboarding!). The pink one I wore, below, was a soft fleece material, that doubles up as a hat too.
Gloves that have elastic bands are also key, you don’t want to accidentally lose them when in the snow! Lorna had a light backpack too, which was so nifty for our days out; keeping water, our wallets, cameras and bits & bobs safe while on the slopes.
Snow boots are compulsory for walking around the snow, not only for grip but warmth too – and remember to have ski socks for them too!
