Best Dressed at Oscars 2018

One of the biggest nights on the awards season calendar is finally here, as on Sunday night (March 4) the 90th Annual Academy Awards took place in Hollywood. Jimmy Kimmel hosted the ceremony in the traditional Dolby Theatre, Los Angeles, with a brilliant opening monologue that addressed many of the issues and events happening in the industry right now (which you can watch here). Just like the past few years, I stayed up to watch the red carpet show before watching the ceremony live (bedtime was 5am!) – and all I can say is…WOW! This was a wonderful turnout, with many beautiful fashion moment by the ladies, and a lot of dapper gentlemen too. So the big questions are answered, who made the Killer Fashion Best Dressed List this year, and who won the big awards at the Oscars 2018?

Killer Fashion Choice

There’s something about the Oscars that gets me extremely giddy, and when choosing a gown for this red carpet, it had to be by one of my three all-time favourite designers. This Marchesa Autumn/Winter 2017 Pre-Fall look is idyllic from its deep raspberry hue to the floral appliqué and gunmetal crystal embellishments, to the cummerbund waist and that sheer asymmetrical bodice. It is one of the most romantic gowns I have seen, and I just adore it.

White Hot

Although first-time Oscar nominee Mary J. Blige did not win in her category, she did perform beautifully, taking to the stage to sing “Mighty River” from her film Mudbound. Fellow nominee Margot Robbie also wore white, and though she didn’t win in her category either, the Australian beauty joined in an impromptu visit to a movie theatre where she and fellow actors & directors surprised an audience, which was also live casted on the Oscars.

Lady in Red

Meryl Streep did not win this year, but she was still the center of my tongue-in-cheek jokes by her fellow actresses, which made for good fun during the show. Actress Allison Janney won her first Oscar, for Best Actress in a Supporting Role as LaVona in I, Tonya.

Nude Hues

Keala Settle performed the Oscar nominated “This Is Me” from The Greatest Showman during the show, as part of the traditional live performance for each of the nominated songs for Best Original Song. Personally, I was disappointed the song wasn’t the award recipient, however her performance was excellent.

Pretty in Pink & Purple

Irish gal Saoirse Ronan looked very pretty in pink, and though she did not win in her category, she stood up as part of winner Frances McDormand’s speech when the latter asked all female nominees from this year’s ceremony to stand up, to stand together.
