Killer Fashion in 2017

Killer Fashion Year in Review 2017

Oh what a wonderful year Killer Fashion has had! It really is fun to reminisce about all that happened in the past 12 months, therefore I present to you my Year in Review for 2017! Thank you again to my little love bugs, all of you wonderful readers & visitors, for supporting my blog.

This year I was awarded the Silver Award for Best Fashion Blog at the Blog Awards Ireland 2017, which was such a surprise, plus I surpassed the 500,000 mark, which is such a delight as I know social media has overtaken many blogs. Because of this, knowing that this blog milestone is down to you and your clicks, I may be writing this post with rather a big smile on my face. As you know I love being a blogger and truly love writing blog posts, and shall keep doing so as long as you keep reading and liking my work – thank you darlings!

Every year I’m intrigued to discover which of my blog posts tops the list as the most-read on the blog, and for the third year in a row my Steal His Style: Conor McGregor took that gold prize! Known as the King of Dublin, Conor McGregor is still very much an influential figure and his fashion game has just taken over this year. During the run up to his 2017 fights, my little blog became more noticed, and hopefully one day, The Notorious himself will see the post!

Coming in as my second most-read post, and the most popular beauty post was my tanning review for bBold Smart Mousse. I found this very surprising, as last year this was the third most popular post on the blog, and this year it has surpassed its previous position. As a naturally tanned girl, when I first had a go at bBold Smart Mousse it was purely due to curiosity, and I was genuinely impressed with the results. Today, it’s still the tan product I recommend to fans and friends.

One of my favourite times of the year is awards season, which always deliveries beautiful fashion, statements looks and a lot to talk about. This correlates with my favourite type of blog posts to write, the Best Dressed reports. From the film awards that include the National Television Awards, Golden Globes and the prestigious Oscars, to the musical numbers like the Grammy’s to the People’s Choice, the BRITs, the iHeart Radio Music Awards, and the beloved MET Costume Gala – there are so many dates to remember. Oftentimes it’s a little hard to keep up with it all, especially as I love to write up on the fashion, but at the end of the day I know you readers enjoy the posts and the photos of the best dressed celebrities. Below are a few of my favourite looks from this year, by the gorgeous gals who’ve hit the red carpet.

The first few months of the year were dedicated to the Best Dressed posts, as awards season begins in January and calms down mid-March, and this is when the non-celebrity posts came back to the surface. One of my favourite posts to publish on Killer Fashion this year, was myInterview with Marloe Watch Company. I was able to ask founders Gordon Fraser and Oliver Goffe fashion and personal style questions, as well as giving my readers more an insight into gentlemen’s watches and how they’re designed. Events always kick off in Springtime too, and one of the biggest I attended was the Schuh Spring/Summer 2017 preview, as well as the blog’s introduction to Clarins brand, at the Spring 2017 Collection. Then in early April I also was invited to an intimate, and very fun, brunch with beauty brand Sleek MakeUP, discovering their matte lipstick collection while dining over delicious food.

The end of April is always a bittersweet time for me, as it’s the week which forever reminds me of my late Mam. I reposted my original article with a slightly different title, Seven Years On, Five Years Reflecting – a post written about the journey my blog and I have had come the blog’s birthday, but also how it’s helped me overcome my Mam’s death in 2012. As I noted in the original post, I wouldn’t be writing another one, but one year after writing it, I found that sharing that story does help me, and hopefully others who may be in the same boat as myself.

Funnily enough, one of my Mam’s favourite annual shows on telly was the Eurovision, and this year I had my friends over to watch the Eurovision Final and it was quite the funny evening. To correspond with it, I also postedThe Fashion of Eurovision 2017, which had great, high stats too. Then in June, I published a post about fake tan, for which I did detailed research and asked the public’s opinions.Fake Tanning – The Bronzed Body in Ireland was quite the successful post too, discussing the country’s favourite brands, type of tanning products and whether or not the Irish tan too much. The results were really interesting, some very surprising and others rather predictable, but I really enjoyed creating this post.

July, my birthday month, is obviously one of my favourite times of the year, but before my actual birthday I was very busy as I hosted my first collaborative event, a Trunk Show with Stella & Dot. Anyone who knows me, knows I adore organising parties and events, and this was one of my favourite to work on. I hosted in one of my favourite venues in the capital, House Dublin on Leeson Street, and worked alongside my brand stylist Emma Mullane. My event had a nice turnout, with some of Dublin’s leading fashion bloggers in attendance, as well as my own family and friends. I was very kindly sponsored by, who dressed me for the occasion, which I hosted on the 4th of July, and coincidentally wore a blue, red & white look on the day! And of course I was also styled with Stella & Dot jewellery and accessories. A big thank you to all those who attended!

Late summer also meant another gorgeous press event held by Thomas Sabo, which as you know is my favourite jewellery brand. Full of beautiful new pieces, statement looks, theLittle Secrets collection was unveiled, and I was gifted three beautiful bracelets from the collection that I do not take off! August also saw the brand new release of Boohoo’s Premium Capsule Collection, that spoiled customers with an incredible 100 pieces inspired by the fashion of the 80s & 90s – something extra special from my go-to online fashion retailer.

And then I also introduced a mini blog series, focusing on men’s fashion. Killer Fashion isn’t just for the ladies, I love to write about style for the gents, and enjoy looking through pages of suits and accessories as much as I do dresses and heels. The Who To Follow: Top 5 Stylish Men of Instagram included men from around the world as well as here in Ireland, whose style I admire and wanted to share with my readers.

Every October, Killer Fashion turns pink to support the Breast Cancer Awareness campaign, and I shared the top pink products you could buy for skincare, makeup and beauty tools. After joining a new company for a few months, the blog was a little quiet but then I came back with a bang in time for theChristmas season. Delivering on my annual Gift Guides and Style Guides for the party season, I thoroughly enjoyed writing up these posts – which I hope helped some of you!

In 2017 I holiday-ed much more than I ever have in one year. I visited Portugal, Malta, Greece, Germany and Scotland, as well as a few road trips including Cork, Galway and Limerick. For some of these holidays I also wrote Holiday Style Diaries, which was quite enjoyable – big shout out to my photographer bestie Lorna! Do check out the fashion from Malta, a country I highly recommend you visit (read up on all the food and accommodation details on Cookie FM!).

While in Greece I was sponsored by PrettyLittleThing, Boohoo and Thomas Sabo, which was extremely generous of the brands. Last year I mentioned how I had two weddings to attend, and oh how they were such fun, especially the dressing up! For the first wedding, which I attended with my bestie babes, Kassi & Antonis’, I wore a white and red floral v-cut dress by PrettyLittleThing, that featured a high leg slit and wore with platform sandals. I loved this look from head to toe, and it was perfect for the hot weather we experienced in Portaria. The second wedding, for Shane & Claudia, I opted for a sexy plunging black and green dress also by PrettyLittleThing and my favourite glitzy heel sandals by ASOS. This was such a special occasion, I brought Lorna and we danced the whole night away, celebrating my best friend’s new chapter.

This year would never have been so big, bold and beautiful without my wonderful friends, and the PR agencies whom I’ve worked with. My bestie babes have all achieved a lot this past year too; Lorna of Fashion Boss became more well-known on television as one of the leading stylists on TV3’s Ireland: AM, which I am forever watching, she worked hella hard on her blog posting gorgeous style posts each week, raked in the followers on her social media and collaborated with brands and hotels for takeovers, posts and outfits, she also traveled a lot (oftentimes with me), gave talks and presentations to college students and churned out beautiful blog posts over and over again; Filomena of Enhance What’s Yours became a full-time blogger then kicked off her YouTube channel, sharing her brilliant niche in the blogosphere that’s more than health, fitness and beauty, delving more into the world of dating, sex and health, was often on-air withChris & Ciara of RTÉ 2FM and wrote a strong open letter that led to some controversy but she kept her head held high, as well as working on a few secret projects that will come to life in the New Year; Kassi of Just Kassi became a full-time blogger too and living the jet-setting life she traveled to many countries looking professional and beautiful every time, she hosted a successful Own Your Beauty Workshop with a whole lot of sponsors and speakers, had four hen parties and of course marrying the love of her life – a ceremony and occasion I will never forget; and Mei Ling of Darling Buds of Mei excelled in her role at digital marketing company Connector, headed on impressive press trips (some with myself and the girls), entered her final year of college, as well as worked on campaigns with TK Maxx and AIB, and published an admirable amount of blog posts full of fashion and relatable style, whilst entering her Final Year of college. I really do have some amazing best friends!

And I do have so many other amazing friends (Lawson, Gail, Roisin!) who helped make 2017 a year to remember, and I love them all! Big shout out to the following PR agencies whom I’ve worked with this year, and who invited me to any of the many events I attended this year too. Each year the generosity of you and your clients is too kind, and some of you truly have gone above & beyond to ensure great friendships, continuous partnerships and a love for the brands has developed. Revolve Marketing & PRBurrell Marketing & Publicity, Valerie Roe PRYellow Machine PR & Creative AgencyHarris Public Relations, Gilleece Communications, Shirley Dunmall PR, Market Match PRBuck & HoundElevate PR Agency, LK Communications and The Publicity Loft – thank you! Another big thank you to the following brands too; Thomas Sabo, Boohoo, PrettyLittleThing, Weir & Sons, Magee 1866, Stella & Dot,, The Buff Day Spa, Dundrum On Ice, as well as beauty brands Davey Davey, Lancôme, Yves Saint Laurent, Clarins, Urban Decay, Wet’n’Wild Beauty, Sleek MakeUP, bPerfect Cosmetics, Uriage, PAYOT and PREEN Hair & Beauty.

The Killer Fashion year in review wouldn’t be complete without a look back at my favourite outfits I’ve worn throughout 2017, plus a reminder of my favourite products. From my favourite jewellery brand, Thomas Sabo, to my undying love for Yves Saint Laurent and my brand new Christian Louboutin Pigalle Kid heels, to my outfits at Kassi and Shane’s respective weddings, the last-minute dress I wore for the Blog Awards Ireland 2017 winning the Silver Award, and many of the red dresses this year. Thank you for all of your kind compliments, and to the brands for their generosity.
