The 20th annual Hollywood Film Awards 2016 took place in Beverly Hills, California last night (November 6), to celebrate and honour individuals for their excellence in the art of cinema. As hosted by James Corden, the intimate event took place on quite the busy Sunday with numerous awards ceremonies also in progression, but that didn’t stop some of Hollywood’s finest taking to the red carpet. Take a look below at my favourites from this year’s Killer Fashion Best Dressed List.
The Best Dressed
Camila Alves is always a favourite female for the fashion and the red carpet, and I adore the black dress she opted for. Wearing Georges Hobeika for the evening, the dress featured half-sleeves and a scooped neckline, with the bodice and sleeves dazzled in yellow & pink floral embellished embroidery. The slit of the skirt showed off her black Shutz peeptoe platforms shoes, which she accessorized with an Edie Parker clutch,Randall Scott jewellery and voluminous curls.
A Splash of Colour
Leslie Mann looked wonderful in her bright autumnal gown as designed by Jenny Packham. The orange to red ombré organza dress was embellished with crystal studded floral appliqué that was quite the showstopper. A sleeveless, scooped neckline dress, the blonde actress teamed her awards attire with a dark red lipstick and straight hair, as well as Christian Louboutin heels, a clutch by Jimmy Choo, and Irene Neuwirth jewels to finish.
I love a good stand-out suit, and British actress Naomie Harris did exactly as she stepped out for the HFAs wearing a silver Jacquard femme suit by Gucci. The suit had black lapel details and cuffs, with an ankle-grazing cut, perfectly teamed with Christian Louboutin black pointed pumps, subtle jewellery by Dana Rebecca Designs and Dauphin, and a silver box clutch Lee Savage. This metallic suit is such a bold, and wonderful choice for the ebony-skinned beauty, that she rounded up with a relaxed high ponytail, kohl-rimmed smokey eyes and a nude lipstick. Naomie Harris was also honoured with the Hollywood Breakout Performance Award for ‘Collateral Beauty’ and ‘Moonlight’!
Blanca Blanco turned heads in her electric pink gown that she wore to the awards. Her red carpet choice by Katherine Mendez featured a plunging neckline and fishtail skirt with cut outs on the waist. The sleeveless look was styled with a retro beauty look; a voluminous updo hairstyle, strong brows, exaggerated lashes & cat eyeliner, a nude lip colour and subtle sparkling jewellery to finish.
Monochrome Mania
Lily Collins is big for the fashion on the red carpet, and on this occasion the porcelain actress wore David Koma. The bodice of the dress featured a wide v-neckline and an equally wide cut out on the midriff, chevron silver beads along the waist and a straight full-length mid slit skirt. Teamed with black platforms by Tom Ford, the look was finished with a selection of jewels including Hearts on Fire earrings, and rings by Harry Kotlar and Graziela Gems. Her dark red & black eye makeup was complimented by the berry red lipstick and soft waves completed her styling.
I do rather like the dramaticism of singer Janelle Monaé’s ensemble, as she stepped out in a Georges Chakra creation. The inverted scoop of the white jacket dress into the long train with its double-breasted finish and wide lapels may not be everyone’s cup of tea, but the addition of the black trousers and choker neckpiece are classic for this songstress. A black & white box clutch by Jimmy Choo, heels by Giuseppe Zanotti, red lipstick and a vintage curled hairstyle completed the look, alongside a variety of statement rings from XIV Karats.
Nicole Kidman looked lovely in her white lace gown by Giambattista Valli. The dress featured tiered ruffled capped shoulders, with a keyhole cut out on the upper bodice and narrow black trims on the neck and waistband. Silver sandals by Aquazurra shoes and delicate Neil Lane jewellery with her beloved Omega watch completed the accessories, and a curly updo, barely there makeup and pink lipstick finished off her beauty look. Nicole Kidman was also honoured with the Hollywood Supporting Actress Award for ‘Lion’.
Actress Julianne Moore skipped the red carpet, but sure looked fabulous on stage as she wore a glittering gown by Tom Ford. The long-sleeved dress featured a variety of colours as the black ran into two tones of red and the white, with a zig zag pattern, that truly complimented the red-haired beauty. Black sandals and minimal accessories, with wavy hair and a brown lip colour to finish.
Black Beauties
One of my favourite actresses, Kate Hudson, was also in attendance at the HFAs wearing a beautiful black creation by Marchesa. The plunging dress stars floral sequin appliqué along one side down to the naval, on a metallic sheen gown that features a mid slit on the skirt too. Teamed with nude pumps by Gianvito Rossi, a Jimmy Choo clutch and silver jewellery. Straight hair and shimmering eye makeup with a nude lip completed her awards attire.
Andie MacDowell looked casual but very chic in her strapless jumpsuit. Her voluminous hair, subtle jewellery additions and the peeptoe sandals were the perfect finishing touches for such a demure outfit, and I love it.
