As you know, women love a good pampering and I would never shy from one myself. Be it getting your nails done, your hair did, a shopping spree, or a massage during a spa day, there are a handful of ways to have me 100% relaxed, so you can imagine how delighted I was to book into a hair salon on a work day for a little lunchtime pampering! PREEN Hair & Beauty is located right in the heart of Dublin City, on the Dame Street edge of our famous Temple Bar. Irish-owned and run, this hair salon is still a junior as it enters its fourth year in business but it truly does deliver on both quality service and end results, that really make this premium salon ranks higher than the rest.
I popped by on Tuesday afternoon during my lunch break for Pampering Part I; a much-needed haircut. Salon owner Katherine Sweeney greeted me and had a quick chat with me about what I would like to get out of my haircut. I told her my concerns (dry, frizzy hair) and she suggested I cut off more inches to bring my length just under my shoulders, and asked her colleague Orla to give my hair a deep condition. Orla brought me downstairs to the PREEN washroom where I sat on massage chair that gave my back a little loving, while she gave my hair a delightful wash using the Kevin Murphy Young Again range’s shampoo & conditioner, as well as a mini head massage. It was blissful and I almost fell asleep, that’s when you know your hairdresser is doing the right job!
When I returned back upstairs, I was offered the PREEN complimentary drinks menu that includes a selection of tea or coffees as well as Prosecco, though as I was returning to the office I made the responsible decision and opted for an Earl Grey tea – my favourite! Katherine, whose previous role was at Toni & Guy before she made the big move and opened up her own salon, cut off four inches off my hair, creating subtle layers. I was very happy with the length it left my hair at, because it was still long while already looking much healthier. Katherine then proceeded with Kevin Murphy Hair Resort Spray and Body Mass, before blow drying into soft curls, and finishing with a generous amount of Doo Over Hairspray, which she explained gives continuous volume as it’s halfway between a usual hairspray and dry shampoo. I left PREEN with a big smile, and gorgeous hair, a very happy Nirina indeed!
I returned to the salon on Thursday afternoon for Pampering Part II; a glossy colour change. Before I left on Tuesday, Katherine had noted that my original highlights & copper finish from last year at Style Club Hairdressing has since turned blonde and was definitely in need of some loving. David Long joined in to have chats about my colour, and gave me a patch test to check their products on my skin. I had no bad reaction to the test, so I happily returned for a spruce up of colour. David showed me a selection of colours and recommended a copper-tinted hue, which I was happy to choose, so he then brought me downstairs for a wash & treatment, to input the toner, which he left in for about 15 minutes. After he brought me back upstairs I got the first glimpse at the colour and I loved it! It already looked much more natural than the fading blonde, and after using the Kevin Murphy Body Mass, David then blow dry curled my hair. When fully dry I could really make out my new hair’s colour and was even more in love. It looked and felt soft as well as healthy, and has a great shine to it. To say I was happy is an understatement in itself, I’m ecstatic! The team at PREEN Hair & Beauty really make it their business to make you feel comfortable, satisfied and spoiled, and they absolutely deliver on all three.
