I love to attend events that are all about Irish designs and have real history to their fashion, so I was more than happy to attend an exclusive breakfast with Irish heritage brand Magee 1866. Celebrating 150 years in business, last month (July 26) I was in awe looking through their new and upcoming Autumn/Winter 2016 collection, as well as their current Spring/Summer 2016 collection. With a breakfast buffet upstairs, their new flagship store at 21-22 South Anne Street, Dublin 2 was the perfect location to learn all about the brand, their concept & history as well as the new range including the 150th Anniversary Collection. Magee 1866 has a great reputation for their Donegal Tweed, where the 5th generation family owned and run business make their designs in the woven mills of their hometown. This also helps boast their products to be 100% Irish made, which includes the menswear, womenswear and accessories lines.
For the new Autumn/Winter 2016 collection, that is also their celebratory 150th Anniversary Collection, a lot of the brand’s signature designs feature. Muted tones, checked patterns, wool & cotton sweaters and of course, tweed. With typical Irish weather, the colours for this new seasonal collection are perfectly complimentary for both business and casual wear, while the outerwear is ideal for the whole AW16 season. The menswear wool & cotton sweaters will easily keep you warm and are great for layering over your favourite Magee shirts, some of which will have complimentary linings or collars. The blazers & jackets will complete the sweater & shirt look, as well as act as a stand out piece with a plain shirt or more so with a casual t-shirt. As the temperatures drop, the need for coats & scarves will rise and at Magee they’ve got this covered.
The current Spring/Summer 2016 collection is also very much still present, with bright & vibrant hues on show and light jumpers too. Their accessories line is also very impressive, with a variety of colours & patterns for ties and pocket squares as well as bow ties in different textures. This makes great for wedding attire and special occasions as their three-piece suits and waistcoats are of extremely high quality & wear-ability. The staff will help you with any queries, and they also offer a Personal Tailoring Service at all Magee stores.
The womenswear at Magee 1866 is also very beautiful. Definite stand out pieces, their collection boasts pink, purple & blue hues with floral and print designs. Tweed femme suits & jackets are a great way of switching up your work wardrobe, and the prints for shirts & blouses are beautiful against black that would easily work for a work to bar kind of day. For some of the pieces, Magee have also teamed up with Liberty London, creating unique prints that are girly, feminine but still business-worthy. Alongside fabulous mens- and womenswear, Magee 1866 also offer home accessories including patterned throws made from the finest cashmere, lambswool & alpaca as well as candles and tweed cushions. My photo from the event was also featured on Entertainment.ie and RSVP Magazine online – thank you!
Thank you to Linda, Sarah & Jen of Revolve PR for the invite and fantastic organisation and to Charlotte, Patricia, Marion & Alan and the in-store team at Magee 1866, South Anne St for their time & generous gifts!
