Review: Lancôme Grandiôse Liner & Extrême Mascara*

Last Tuesday afternoon (June 14th), I was invited to attend an exclusive preview of the brand new Lancôme Grandiôse Liner & Extrême Mascara. I always enjoy a trip to the Lancôme Ireland HQ for these events, and was very excited about this new eyeliner & mascara as I’m a big fan of this French beauty brand’s makeup. Lancôme Elite makeup artist Laura Pye was also in attendance, showcasing the new eyeliner and working her makeup magic on the gorgeous model for the day, Michele McGrath. She created a strong eye look with two flicks and big lashes that really stood out, both from far away & up close. It was a great afternoon event getting to learn the ins & outs of the Grandiôse range, which I was also kindly gifted with. This week I gave it a go, creating my own everyday look with the new eyeliner & mascara, so do read on!

A more dramatic update of the French beauty house’s iconic mascara, Grandiôse, this 2016 face lift features all of the goodness of the original, but is better. It provides extreme volume, from root to tip for an amplified look, corner to corner that promises to last up to 24 hours with an all-day smudge resistant formula. In a matte-finish bottle, the Swan-Neck™ wand and high-precision brush ensure to grab eyelashes closely from the roots to beautifully fan them out towards the tip. This mascara is only available in black, Noir Extrême.

Verdict: Lancôme Grandiôse Liner & Extrême Mascara – 4.5/5

Upon first try, I was utterly impressed! The handle of this Grandiôse Liner makes it very easy to apply, and the 35° angle allows for perfect precision when applying in the inner corners and creating my flick. I’m also impressed with how quickly the product dries on the eyelid – I estimated 10 seconds and then it was dry! And what’s great about this quick-drying formula means that it doesn’t budge or smudge once it’s dried and genuinely lasted all day long without having to reapply or fix any part of my eyeliner. As mentioned the 35° angle is great for getting closer to the eye without the handle getting in the way. I received the Grandiôse Liner in #02 Brun Mirifique, which although is brown on the tip and when applied on my hand, it came out much darker than expected on my eyelid and I would actually say is closer to black than brown. During the preview I also tested out the Noir and Saphir colours (black & blue); the former was pure black and truly perfect for a classic cat eyeliner look, and the latter was a fabulous royal blue that is great for stand-out makeup looks or colour blocking. I will advise to click it into place before you unscrew it off the bottle as sometimes the product flicks off. Also, because this eyeliner is a liquid pen, you do have to keep popping the tip back into the bottle, shaking it and unscrewing it again for stronger applications – but this is a minor point.

The updated Grandiôse Extrême Mascara is a great product, with its unique swan neck inner handle and compact brush it really does create a wow-factor mascara finish. At first use I was impressed with how much mascara is applied in just one coat. I didn’t need to dip the wand back into the bottle as it coats each lash generously without clumping together in one go, and the swan neck really allows for precise application to the inner lashes. Its creamy formula makes for easy application and its black pigmentation is true to the name; extreme and noir. My makeup look was instantly complete with this mascara applied, and it works beautifully with the Grandiôse Liner. I also adore the matte finish of the bottle and its gradient handle with the brand’s flower logo, though the bottle itself is a little bit big in size in comparison to usual mascara traditions, (I’m assuming this is because of the curve of the swan-neck wand). All in all, as a duo I am very impressed with the new & updated Grandiôse collection, and can happily say that Killer Fashion recommends!
