Best Dressed at CFDA Fashion Awards 2016

Yesterday evening (June 6th), the Council of Fashion Designers of America Fashion Awards 2016 in collaboration with Swarovski took place in the Hammerstein Ballroom, New York City and my oh my what a fabulous red carpet it was! I’m sure you may still remember Rihanna attending the CFDA 2014 ceremony in that risqué Adam Selman number, but there was only a whole lot of class, and thankfully not a lot of ass at this year’s turnout. Receiving the CFDA Fashion Icon 2016 title award this year, Beyoncé surprisingly skipped the red carpet but did attend the ceremony with her husband Jay Z and daughter Blue Ivy. Jump to the bottom of the post to find out all of the winners of this year’s CFDA Fashion Awards, but for now check out who has made the Killer Fashion Best Dressed List!cfda

The Best Dressed

Josephine Skriver looked truly fabulous at the CFDA Awards, donning this red strapless gown by Sachin & Babi. The custom-made creation featured a sweetheart neckline with furry ruffles on sheer red throughout the dress and a peplum-folded waterfall skirt & train finish. The gorgeous hue of this red against her skin tone are what really stood out, and the nude barely there Stuart Weitzman sandals with statement Sachin & Babi drop earrings really helped bring the look together. Dewy fuss-free makeup, with soft pink lips and a slicked back straight hairstyle completed her look to perfection.

Joining her fellow models on the red carpet, Elsa Hosk attended the awards in this stunning custom-made Naeem Khan jumpsuit. The gold look featured variations of beading & sequins in an intricate boho design over a nude sheer underlay, with a wide-legged finish and an eye-catching bead-fringed cape from the shoulders. She added black & gold statement drop earrings with a gold foil box clutch to her look, alongside sideswept Old Hollywood curls and soft makeup to finish.

Beyoncé was announced as the recipient for the CFDA Fashion Icon Award this year, and her ensemble for the soirée sure backed it up. Congratulations on your award!

Also opting for red, Nadja Swarovski was of course in attendance wearing a red caped dress from Michael Kors that sure was a statement look. The dress featured a sheer nude panel creating a plunging neckline with a leg slit on the skirt that showed off her gold sandals. With Swarovski jewellery and a box clutch too, she rounded up the look with an updo, strong eye makeup and pink lips.

Actress Jamie Chung opted for a Banana Republic dress with a contrasting pink halterneck and a keyhole cut on the bodice that reflects the mid-slit on the skirt.

Clueless actress Alicia Silverstone was a lovely surprise on the red carpet, as she stepped out in this red gown by Christian Siriano. Channelling the 1990s, the blonde’s dress featured plaited shoulder straps to match her sandals, with a tight-fitted waist and a thigh-high slit on the skirt. Her dark smokey eyes, red lipstick and that slicked back hairstyle were absolutely flawless and I just cannot fault this look.

Shirt dresses aren’t the the most popular choice for a red carpet soirée, but for Christina Ricci it was her perfectly chosen LBD look. The blonde actress opted for this long sleeve by Coach, which featured boho detailing on the collar & along the ruffles, with a gold studded leather waistbelt and skirt-trim. She added gold-heeled chunky black sandals with a full fringe updo and kohl-rimmed cat eyeliner to finish.

A lovely surprise on the red carpet were friends and Broad City co-stars Abbi Jacobsen & Ilana Glazer, both who wore designs by Rebecca Minkoff. Abbi’s full length dress featured a deep-v neckline with chevron-patterned sheer sleeves and skirt overlay, styled with peeptoe heels, a red croc clutch & red nails and a soft red lipstick to finish. Black ankle-strap pointed pumps with an aubergine clutch rounded up her styling, with flawless fresh-faced makeup and a soft curled hairstyle. Just beautiful!

Miss USA 2012 Olivia Culpo looked gorgeous in her classy LBD for the occasion, wearing Kate Spade New York. Her blazer dress featured a feathery skirt with a clean v-cut neckline and long sleeves. She added same designer lace up heels to her look, wearing a Mattia Cielo diamond necklace as a headpiece atop her slicked down hairstyle. She opted for a a half-up half-down hairstyle, cat eyeliner & pink lips to complete.

Along with a pleated peplum detail on the side of the skirt, the bodice also featured Swarovski Crystals, which she wore with Olgana Paris heels. Smokey eyes, nude lips and a slicked down hairbun completed her awards attire.

Personally I’m not a fan of Lena Dunham’s red carpet looks, but ignoring the bunny slippers, her outfit for the CFDA Awards was very chic, as she wore this black strapless midi Creatures of the Wind dress with its wide sleeves and straight necklines. A colourful multi-stone necklace with a monogrammed clutch by Clare Vivier, with a straight bob haircut and simple eyeliner completed the look.

Legendary designer Diane von Furstenberg attended in her own-designed dress; a black slip with a fringed skirt and a sheer black overlay that featured white squares all over. She added Christian Louboutin t-bar sandals to the look with a selection of bracelets, and kept her makeup fuss-free.

Her co-designer & friend Georgina wore this feathery creation which featured a sleeveless sheer body that was embellished with gunmetal gemstones and slate blue feathers, as well as an oversized silk ribbon waistbelt. She styled the look with more statement jewels, pavé silver sandals and a clutch to finish.

Summer Sunshine

Shanina Shaik wore a burnt yellow sleeveless look by Givenchy. The dress featured a wide v-neckline that met at the thick waistband before falling into a pleated skirt with triangular cut outs along the waist. She styled her look with a furry Lanvin purse, Tamara Mellon sandals and jewels by SCOSHA.

Looking very summery, singer Lion Babe attended the awards in this Adam Selman creation that featured multicoloured floral & leaf embroidery on a peekaboo sheer black body that also had a thigh-high skirt slit at the front. Neutral Nudes

Looking ever so sweet, Taylor Hill attended in this Thakoon dress, which features a ruffle trim neckline and simple off-red rose print all over the champagne-hue body. Keeping the rest of her look classy, the tall brunette opted for fresh-faced makeup and minimal accessories.

Laverne Cox stepped onto the red carpet in a mocha-coloured gown by Marc Bouwer. The v-cut short-sleeved look featured cut outs on the waist with cape sleeves and a mid slit on the skirt. Although the Orange Is The New Black actress does look beautiful, the look sort of bores me. Had the dress been a different colour I think it would have been more outstanding. Dark smokey eyes, drop earrings and a nude lip colour completed her look.

Ciara was also in attendance, donning Roberto Cavalli for the occasion. The ruffle-tiered waterfall dress was quite an interesting creation, with a half-finished vibe to it, and the lace-up on the bust was a nice twist too.
