Each year we’re treated to seriously fabulous fashion in the South of France as the 69th annual Cannes Film Festival kicks off. Full of press photo calls and Q&As, movie premieres and soirées, this is one of my all-time favourite fashion moments where you can count on the red carpet for stunning fashion, bold choices and impeccable style. Cannes is actually one of my favourite cities to holiday in, and it’s blessed with hosting the film (and fashion) festival each year. So let’s see who has made the Killer Fashion Best Dressed list from Week One this year!
It comes as no surprise that my favourite Gossip Girl blonde is a Killer Fashion favourite this year at Cannes. On May 11th, Blake Lively attended the photocall for her upcoming film Cafe Society, as directed by Woody Allen. She looked phenomenal donning a red slip jumpsuit by Juan Carlos Obando, with an asymmetrical petal skirt from the waist. Her look also a tied waistbelt and a to-the-back neck scarf that added to the romantic chic attire, along with Christian Louboutin heels and a gold necklace. Her L’Oréal Paris makeup included exaggerated lashes, soft eyeshadow and soft pink lips to finish.
For the evening premiere of Cafe Society, the blonde beauty switched into this stunning Versace gown, donning a fitted mermaid gown in champagne hues. The sparkling beaded gown featured geometric sheer lines with a soft fishtail skirt for an ethereal finish. Styling her look with Lorraine Schwartz jewellery, Blake finished the look with soft waves and a nude pink lip.
On Thursday May 12th, Blake attended the Cafe Society luncheon in a yellow velvet tea dress by Valentino. With peplum & criss-cross ribbon details on the bust, this maternity midi dress was a perfect fit for the actress, which she styled with gold Jimmy Choo sandals.
Later that evening, she switched into a demure look, wearing a Salvatore Ferragamo blazer dress. The plunging midi featured feather fringe on the cuffs & skirt trim for that extra oomph, styled with sheer & embellished Christian Louboutin heels and Lorraine Schwartz.
At the photo call for The Shallows on May 13th, Blake attended in a Giambattista Valli Haute Couture dress, that she paired with a Roger Vivier clutch & heels at her photo call. The mini maternity dress featured a pleated cape with a black sequin square panel on the neckline, with gold embellishments on the bodice and a bubble-textured skirt that was accented by a black ribbon waistbelt. A sweeping updo with black & white striped heels completed her daytime look.
Later that evening, Blake hit the red carpet for the Slack Bay (Ma Loute) premiere, donning an ice blue embellished tiered ball gown by Vivienne Westwood Couture. The blonde actress worked the baby bump in this princess-gown that featured embellishments on the bodice with a slight off-the-shoulder scooped neckline. She kept her makeup natural with a messy updo & hairband, adding a gemstone bracelet & minimal earrings and gold & white striped heels to finish.
Attending the evening premiere for The BFG (Le Bon Gros Geant) on May 14th, Blake blew us away in a sky blue gown by Atelier Versace. Her custom-made look featured an asymmetrical neckline with a one-shoulder strap and a cut out around the bust, with the bodice lined in sparkling Swarovski Crystals, fading into the skirt that featured a double chiffon train. The rounded thigh-high leg cut showed off the actress’ choice of shoe; Christian Louboutin silver strappy sandals, that she gave plenty of Angelina leg with. A very chic wavy ponytail, sparkling jewellery and flawless makeup rounded up this red carpet look.
On May 11th, attending the Cafe Society premiere, another favourite actress of mine, Jessica Chastain, looked gorgeous as she embraced summer in an Armani Privé dress. Her yellow strapless sweetheart look featured detailed wrap effect on the bodice with a sheer cape skirt, that hugged the actress perfectly. The look was styled with a sparkling collar necklace by Piaget and Charlotte Olympia shoes, with soft waves, shimmering grey eyeshadow, and soft nude pink lips to finish.
Attending Money Monster on May 12th, Jessica looked fabulous as she walked the red carpet in a more dramatic look. The red-haired beauty attended in a silver & champagne-hued gown by Alexander McQueen. The gown was heavily embellished on the bodice before falling into a soft tulle skirt. Adding Brian Atwood heels and Piaget jewellery, with a wavy hairstyle subtle smokey eyes and an off-red lipstick, the actress looked every bit the part for a movie premiere in Cannes.
For the Opening Gala ceremony and the Cafe Society red carpet walk, Kirsten Dunst attended in a beautiful red & blush pink long sleeve gown. The actress wore this sheer look that featured dark red & crimson embroidered flowers with sequin-threading that glistened from all angles, with a narrow glittering black ribbon waistbelt. Her look was styled with silver smokey eyes, an off-pink lip colour and a neat low hairbun for a classy finish.
Later in the week, Kirsten looked lovely on the red carpet, attending the Loving movie premiere on May 16th. The porcelain-skinned blonde wore an ivory dress with a fitted silk bodice and full-length skirt that featured delicate floral appliqué around the straps, along the straight neckline and down the skirt from the waist. Her bridal-esque attire was styled with a black envelope clutch, deep red lipstick, a soft curled hairstyle and drop earrings to finish.
Also attending the Opening Gala ceremony and the Cafe Society movie premiere on May 11th, actress Naomi Watts stepped out in a beautiful light lavender column gown by Armani Privé. The strapless look featured tiers all the way down the dress with delicate mirror & gemstone beading and embellishments. The statement necklace she wore with this was stunning itself; featuring drop gemstones in purple, pink & ice blue. Soft wavy hair, big lashes and a pink lipstick were the perfect finishing touches for this Cannes affair.
On May 12th, Naomi attended Cannes 2016, walking the Money Monster movie premiere in a dazzling Michael Kors Collection look. Her grey slip dress featured all-over gemstones and a scooped neckline with a low open back for a simple but classic style, that she wore with Giuseppe Zanotti sandals. Silver & grey drop earrings, a cocktail ring with exaggerated lashes & pink lips accompanied her sideswept deep curled hairstyle for this red carpet finish.
Making her Cannes Film Festival debut, top model Bella Hadid attended the Opening Gala with jeweler Fawaz Gruosi in a gorgeous Roberto Cavalli Couture gown. Her champagne-hue matched her skin tone beautifully with its delicate silver & gold embroidery, the dress also featured sheer panels and cut outs for full glamour effect. The brunette added a selection of glittering jewellery from de Grisogono, of course, and completed her red carpet look with a sleek ponytail, dewy barely there makeup and very soft smokey eyes.
French actress Frédérique Bel also stepped out for the Cafe Society premiere and Opening Gala ceremony, taking my breath away in this Zuhair Murad creation. The sleeveless ball gown featured a v-cut neckline with red rose motifs & white borders that glistened in sequins & metallic thread, with a black mid-body and more floral design around the skirt trim. Chopard silver & ruby chandelier earrings and a cuff bracelet, flawless silver smokey eyes and off-red lipstick with a black glitter & white striped clutch to finish, this was one red carpet look I won’t forget.
Eva Longoria & Victoria Beckham
I love Eva Longoria on the red carpet, but unfortunately this year only one look really caught my eye. Attending the L’Oréal Paris Opening Gala dinner on May 11th, the actress & philanthropist wore a beautiful silk halter gown by Juan Carlos Obando. The bodice featured soft ruffles with a cinched waistband and train, adding to the ethereal lavender hue. With Casadei pumps and jewels by Lorraine Schwartz, this was a beautiful choice for the Latina.
Eva’s BFF Victoria Beckham attended the Cannes Film Festival, and in the afternoon on May 11th, the fashion designer attended the Cafe Society premiere, donning a black self-designed Victoria Beckham bustier & pants suit with a white trim along the sweetheart neckline. She added Chopard jewels and black platforms to her look, with a relaxed updo to finish.
Araya A. Hargate
Araya A. Hargate is a pleasant surprise to the red carpet as she really blew me away with her Cannes choices. On May 11th, the young Thai-British actress stepped out in a baby pink ruffle creation by Ralph & Russo, donning this sleeveless look. The creative design featured peplum skirt on the waist with a train that she wore with a silver & pink baubles choker statement necklace by Chopard. A twisted chignon hairstyle, lined eyes and soft pink lips completed this look.
Come May 14th, Araya returned in Zuhair Murad, wearing a sleeveless pink crepe gown that featured silver-grey floral appliqué with an open floor-length peplum from the waist. The train on the skirt added more oomph, amped up by her dark smokey eyes and Chopard twisted gemstone earrings. For both occasions the actress wore makeup by L’Oréal Paris.
On May 11th, Hofit Golan walked the red carpet in a stunning black & nude gown by Jean Fares Couture. The sleeveless look featured black butterfly like cut out design on the bodice and main body of the skirt, with a tulle skirt and sheer upper bodice to hold it all up. With jewellery by Avakian and APM Monaco, red lipstick and a wispy updo, the beautiful blonde looked every bit the part for the festival.
Following her red carpet arrival, Hofit attended the Money Monster premiere on May 12th, looking fun and flirty in a polka dot gown by Georges Hobeika. The white body of the dress was playfully designed with pastel pink, yellow & lilac polka dots with black striking floral design around the bodice & black dots to match. Dressing her look with jewellery by APM Monaco, for this occasion her hair was styled a bouffant ponytail, strong eye makeup and red lipstick.
