Best Dressed at Oscars 2016

So last night was the big one. I had been awaiting the 88th annual Academy Awards (Oscars) for months, and finally on Sunday night (February 28th), they were here. Held in the Dolby Theatre in downtown Hollywood, with comedian Chris Rock hosting the awards for the second time who was truly brilliant & I want to commend him on his hosting job, watch his full opening monologue here. I was also bold and stayed up to watch the show live (I’ve just finished writing this at 5am!), I also watched the red carpet show beforehand – and all I can say is…OH EM GEE! It was such a beautiful showcase of designer dresses, on equally beautiful ladies and dapper-styled gents! From the usual but stunning ball gowns and LBDs, there was every colour, every style and every shade of gorgeous present. Just like last year, this was for sure worth the long wait! So who exactly made Killer Fashion’s Best Dressed list and who won the big awards for the Oscars 2016?

Academy Awards 2016 Oscars

The Best Dressed

Priyanka Chopra looked ravishing on the red carpet, donning Zuhair Murad, in this strapless sweetheart gown. The fitted look featured white sequin embellished floral & leaf motifs on an off-white body, with an embellished waistbelt and a train to finish too. I cannot fault this look, and it was perfectly styled with a mirrored box clutch by Rauwolf, Jimmy Choo heels, dainty drop earrings & rings by Lorraine Schwartz and red lipstick. Absolutely gorgeous!

Our Irish gal Saoirse Ronan looked phenomanel in this emerald-green sequined slip dress by Calvin Klein Collection. The low v-cut dress was cinched in on the waist giving the young actress a gorgeous shape, that also featured a swirl design on the skirt with a low v-cut back too. The Brooklyn Oscars nominee added stunning silver & emerald drop earrings by Chopard and Roger Viver heels to her look, with voluminous soft wavy hair and soft smokey eyes to match. Saoirse earlier mentioned she wanted to wear emerald-green to represent the Emerald Isle, and she sure did make us proud!

Black Beauties

My beloved Jennifer Lawrence looked gorgeous as she walked the red carpet, donning this black & nude v-cut gown by Dior Haute Couture, with its lace appliqué on the bodice and the lace tiers on the skirt, creating a dark romantic feel for the look. Opting for a delicate silver necklace by Chopard, soft smokey eyes & pink lips, the Joy Oscars nominee completed her awards look with a voluminous straight hairstyle and that gorgeous smile of hers.

Jane Wu also opted for a statement look, as the actress attended in a black sheer gown that was embellished in a skeletal design. The plunging gown also featured embellished trims along the neck- & waistline and around the skirt, with a long tulle train to complete. This is a truly stunning gown, and absolutely awards appropriate. I also love the sideswept hairstyle, her cocktail ring choice and flawless smokey eyes makeup.

Jennifer Garner glided down the red carpet in an Old Hollywood glamour style, donning this black off-the-shoulder sweetheart gown by Versace. One half of the bodice was fully embellished to match the waistband, while the other featured pleated detail that complimented the lower half of the dress with its slight peplum trim and train. A bouffant pulled-back hairstyle, silver pavé bangles with soft smokey eyes completed the actress’ look.

I love a statement entrance onto the red carpet, and Dorith Mous did exactly that as she stepped out for the Oscars. The intricate lace designed bodice featured a high neck, sheer sleeves with embroidered cuffs and a black mesh panel, before the satin tulle full skirt bursts onto the scene. A wavy hairstyle with an abundance of pavé rings completed the tall model’s look.

White Hot

My favourite E! Live from the Red Carpet correspondent Giuliana Rancic attended the awards of course, donning a beautiful sleeveless Georges Chakra gown, that features floral embroidery around the waist & back, with a sheer open back and back shoulder pieces. Rene Caovilla heels and Forevermark Diamonds statement circle earrings were styled to the look perfectly. The olive skin-toned presenter added a bouffant back-bun hairstyle, which I love, with soft smokey eyes and nude lips to finish. Just beautiful!

Tracey Edmonds attended in a stunning all over embellished white gown that was beautifully fit for the presenter. With sheer pearl-adorned capped shoulders and a slight sweetheart neckline, that she styled with tousled curls, simple jewels and a white manicure.

Olivia Wilde looked sexy in a cream-coloured pleated Valentino Haute Couture gown. The open front added sexiness to the gown, while the upturned pleated waistband and shoulder details . Her braided low bun hairstyle is perfect for this look, playing to her personality that she styled with a white embellished clutch by Roger Vivier, and a choker necklace from Neil Lane, which I think she could have done without.

Singer Lady Gaga was in attendance donning a strapless jumpsuit by Brandon Maxwell, which also featured a caped peplum finish. Old Hollywood glamour hair, jewel drop earrings, and flawless makeup to finish her Oscars outfit. Lady Gaga also performed her ‘Til It Happens To You’ Oscars nominated song during the ceremony, from the film The Hunting Ground, which you can watch here.

Lady in Red

Keltie Knight stepped out in a red gown, that featured a twisted structure design on the bodice, and a fall-down ruffle down the side of the column gown. Her voluminous hairstyle, simple jewels and smokey eyes were the perfect finishing touches.

Going for a dark red hue, Zuri Hall‘s awards attire was this strapless sweetheart mermaid gown, that hugged the presenter’s body in all the right places. I love the deep pleats on the skirt and her choice of a fan-patterned wrap necklace, that work really well with this look.

Eva von Bahr attended the Oscars donning this sleeveless, all over sequined gown. With slight capped sleeves and a cinched-in waistline, this scarlet red dress was everything perfect for an awards-appropriate look.

Attending with husband John Legend, heavily pregnant Chrissy Teigen looked stunning on the red carpet donning a maternity gown by Marchesa. The nude sheer body features all over dark red glittering floral embroidery, with a mermaid fit, train and an open back too. A bouffant hairstyle, Lorraine Schwatz jewels and a clutch by Swarovski rounded up her look.

Looking ravishing in red, Charlize Theron turned up to the Oscars in Christian Dior, of course. The strappy custom-made gown featured a deep plunging neckline, with a fishtail skirt finish and train that complimented the blonde’s skin tone beautifully. Worn with an assortment of Harry Winston jewels including a statement pavé diamond pendant necklace, as well as diamond earrings & rings. The Mad Max: Fury Road actress styled her hair into a chic updo, and completed with pink smokey eyes and nude lips.

Beautiful Blues

Never one to disappoint, Sofía Vergara looked as va va voom as ever in a midnight blue silk gown by Marchesa, which featured a deep strapless sweetheart neckline. With wrap detail around the bust & waist as well as embellishments, there was a lot going on. The Colombian beauty added pavé feathery earrings & a cocktail ring by Lorraine Schwartz, along with a swept back ponytail and red lipstick.

Patricia Arquette opted for a navy blue hue, wearing this off-the-shoulder fitted gown. The actress’ look featured a ribbon along the neckline with a simple silhouette finish, that she styled with a matching navy mini box clutch. Green drop earrings and a chic updo completed her look.

Brie Larson absolutely blew me away stepping onto the red carpet in Gucci. The v-cut gown featured pleating on the skirt as well as scalloped ruffles but it was really that statement waistband that catches your eye, with its pavé floral design in silver, lilac and pearls details. The royal blue hue looked beautiful against the Room Oscars nominee’s skin tone, which she styled with silver & pearl jewellery by Newark. Brie Larson also won the Academy Award for Best Actress in a Leading Role for ‘Room’!

Ethereal Romance

Supermodel & presenter Heidi Klum looked wondrous in a lilac gathered gown by Marchesa. The asymmetrical one-sleeve dress featured floral accents on the shoulder, waist & sleeve cuff, with a cut out across the bodice too. She added statement jewels by Lorraine Schwartz to her look with a flawless makeup finish.

Isla Fisher attended with husband Sacha Baron Cohen, donning a beautiful off-the-shoulder gown with large floral prints and a gathered neckline. The look was cinched in by a metallic waistbelt and styled with a pavé bangle and a silk clutch by Salvatore Ferragamo.

Actress Rooney Mara looked great wearing this Givenchy gown, with its sheer embroidered finish and contrasting patterns. It also featured a diamond cut out on the midriff, along with a mid split on the skirt that fell into a train. The button detail along the front is also a lovely twist, and rather representational of the brand.

The Hateful Eight Oscars nominee Jennifer Jason Leigh attended in a strapless dusty pink gown also by Marchesa, that was just stunning. The dress featured a slight sweetheart neckline, with ruffle inserts as well as mini peplum on the waist and more ruffle appliqué down the side of the dress. Styling her hair into a side bun with silver & pink drop earrings by Piaget, the actress looked stunning as she walked the red carpet.

Absolutely jaw-dropping, Cate Blanchett attended in a sea foam pastel gown by Armani Privé, adorned with floral appliqué & feathers that was just all kinds of beautiful. The v-cut mermaid dress was fitted beautifully, that she styled with a starfish cuff bracelet & drop earrings by Swarovski with a simple bob hairstyle.

Metallic Madness

Naomi Watts stood out in a purple & blue fully sequined column gown by Armani Privé. The strapless dress featured striped designs on the upper bodice & wavy designs on the skirt, that she styled with a silver statement necklace & black box clutch both from Bvlgari, heels by Stuart Weitzman, red lipstick and wavy hair.

Working the red carpet in gold, Margot Robbie attended in a stunning Tom Ford long-sleeved dress. The blonde actress’ v-cut custom-made dress features a bit of wrap detail on the waist, with a textured finish that stood out beautifully. She added a black velvet tassel minaudière to her look for perfect contrasting, Forevermark Diamonds jewellery with soft smokey eyes and nude lips to finish. Just gorgeous!

Maria Menounos looked wondrous in a sequined silver gown, with its pleated scalloped design and wide off-the-shoulder neckline finish, as custom-designed by Christian Siriano. Her fitted gown was styled with minimal accessories, relaxed waves and soft smokey eyes.

Also donning silver, Anne-Marie Carpendale had me in awe in her embellished gown with its to-the-naval plunging gown that was gorgeous, sexy and still sophisticated. A chic updo, sparkling jewels and cat eyeliner completed her look.

A Splash of Colour

Adding some sunshine to the red carpet, Oscars nominee Alicia Vikander attended the Oscars in a custom Louis Vuitton. The pale yellow strapless features silver embellishments, with a waterfall skirt trim and a balloon skirt finish for some added fun factor. It’s a gorgeous and youthful look for the Swede, that she styled with silver ankle strap sandals, pavé diamond-shaped drop earrings and a half bun-half down hairstyle. Alicia Vikander also won the Academy Award for Best Actress in a Supporting Role for ‘The Danish Girl’!

Olivia Munn attended the Oscars donning an orange asymmetrical dress by Stella McCartney. The simple silhouette was beautiful on the actress, but also the colour against her porcelain skin tone is just fabulous. She styled her look with a Forevermark Diamonds serpent wrap bracelet and a low braided bun, as well as an orange-red lipstick, along with Jimmy Choo heels & clutch to round-up her awards attire.

Stephanie Bauer looked lovely in a forest green strapless gown. The vampy v-cut neckline and fitted mermaid finish were beautiful features for the brunette beauty. Simple jewels and a curled upstyle, dewy makeup and nude lips completed her look.

The Couples

Menswear

The menswear was pretty impressive, with velvet blazers being a favourite amongst many. My most favourite looks were by Ryan Seacrest in his own line’s grey blazer suit; Michael Strahan in his teal blue attire; Jimmy Napes & Sam Smith who won their Academy Awards for Best Original Song for ‘The Writings On the Wall’ from Spectre, and click here to watch Sam’s performance on stage; host Chris Rock in his black & white tuxedo, who as I mentioned above did a brilliant job, watch his full opening monologue here; Jared Leto and those red trims by Gucci; Kevin Hart who gave a brilliant speech on the whole #OscarsSoWhite controversy, which you can watch here; previous Oscar-winner Common who showed up in an all-white suit; and Leonardo diCaprio in his classic suit, whose nomination as Best Actor in a Leading Role for ‘The Revenant’ was the talk of the town for months, and he finally won his Academy Award!
