Best Dressed at Grammys 2016

Well the big music awards night has come & gone, as last night (February 15th) the 58th annual Grammy Awards 2016 took place at the Staples Theatre, in sunny Los Angeles. One of the most highly anticipated awards shows of the season, it always promises amazing performances, well-deserving award recipients and of course, the fun, fabulous & fantastic fashion on the red carpet. And this year’s show was just as amazing as last year with many of the big stars walking the pre-show and giving us fashion lovers plenty to fall in love with. So, let’s get to it; here is the Killer Fashion Best Dressed list for the Grammys 2016!

Grammy Awards

The Best Dressed

Ellie Goulding looked fantastic in this pale pink slip dress by Stella McCartney that featured an extremely impressive pavé fringed back harness & necklace at the front by Bvlgari. The simplicity of the front works perfectly with the blinging back, and I really do love that. The Grammys nominee added Jimmy Choo heels and a Bvlgari clutch to her look, with a sexy swept hairstyle, barely there makeup and pink lips. Gorgeous!

Working the metallic look, top model Nicole Trunfio attended in a caped jumpsuit by Zuhair Murad at the Grammys. I love this look, from the wide v-cut neckline, to the sheer embellished cape and the vertical stripes – it’s all such perfection! Her hair & makeup were absolutely flawless too; as she opted for a dark red lip, with cat eyeliner and tousled curly hair. Just, gorgeous!

Black Beauties

Carrie Underwood was one of the first big stars to walk the red carpet, wearing a black strapless fitted gown by Nicolas Jebran. Her ruffled bust added texture to the satin dress, which complimented her straight hairstyle that she wore with Giuseppe Zanotti heels. She added a Johnathon Arndt diamond & ruby necklace, which she revealed her husband gave her for Valentine’s Day.

A nice surprise to the red carpet, Skylar Grey stepped out in a sheer black & nude dress with tulle full-length capes from the sleeves. The dress also featured a crochet bib neckline, which the singer-songwriter styled with black open toe sandals, smokey eyes and a top knot hairstyle.

Model Bella Hadid looked sexy in her plunging gemstone covered gown by Alexandre Vauthier Paris, that also featured cut outs on the waist and a wrap belt. She added a Bvlgari black clutch and jewels to her look, rounding it all off with black barely there sandals, and slicked down straight hair.

Opting for a rock chic kind of look, supermodel Alessandra Ambrosio attended in a floor-length black dress by Versace. The dress featured a wide plunging neckline with cut outs on the bodice and a thigh-high leg split. Pavé strappy Giuseppe Zanotti sandals, dark smokey eyes and statement drop earrings with a straight hairstyle and Alessandra was good to go.

Wearing an LBD, Vanessa Lachey wore this Michael Cinco embellished mini on the red carpet. The long-sleeved look featured a high neck and peekaboo sheer sleeves to match the sheer lower half of the skirt. Adding black pointed pumps, minimal jewels and a bouffant updo with pink lipstick, the Filipino-American looked gorgeous for the event.

Going for a sexy business look, Demi Lovato attended her first Grammys in a powersuit dress. Her Norisol Ferrari choice was teamed with stunning Loree Rodkin jewellery including a body chain and an array of statement knuckle rings, along with pointed Saint Laurent pumps.

Debuting a new hair colour, newly-auburn Meghan Trainor stepped out in a black embellished v-cut wrap dress. The curvy singer’s dress showed off her silver metallic platforms by Giuseppe Zanotti, that she styled with a black & gold embellished Edie Parker clutch and Anne Sisteron jewellery. Meghan Trainor also won the Grammy Award for Best New Artist.

Singer Mya also walked the red carpet, donning this black & nude bodycon with a train. The curly-haired singer just released her new album Smoove Jones on Valentine’s Day, so it’s no wonder she was all smiles. Red lipstick and an oversized earring (yes, singular!), with a cuff bracelet rounded up her look.

White Hot

Working her maternity wardrobe, Chrissy Teigen looked gorgeous in her white caped dress that featured a fully embellished sheer floor-length cape. Although maternity wear, this Yousef Al-Jasmi dress did seem a tad too tight on the gorgeous presenter, though she still styled it to perfection with Stuart Weitzman heels and Lorraine Schwartz jewels.

Carly Steel opted for a tea dress gown by Gauri & Nainika. Her floral appliqué dress featured some green accents for a little pop of colour, and was styled with Neil Lane silver & emerald jewelry and black pumps.

Really getting into the awards, Diana Gloster wore this strapless sweetheart dress with its musical notes print. The young Brit attended wearing Tarik Ediz, where her dress features a v-cut sweetheart bodice, black waistband and black & white full skirt printed with lines and music notes. Finishing with red lipstick and a half up-half down hairstyle, this was definitely a great way of taking the music awards literal.

Although she skipped the red carpet, Beyoncé did attend the Grammys, presenting on the night in a white crochet lace & sheer gown. The look featured a shirt collar & buttons with peekaboo lattice along the sleeves, body and on the tulle skirt too. She kept the accessories to a minimum, donning only drop earrings that matched the embellishments on the shirt collar and opted for a low bun hairstyle. Demure and so sophisticated.

Lady in Red

Grammy nominee Kehlani attended in a gorgeous relaxed red dress by Juan Carlos Obando, with a straight keyhole detail on the bodice. The tattooed beauty added curled hair, red lipstick and a gold chain clutch with black sandals to finish; she looked so good!

Singer Ariana Grande stepped out in red as she wore this Romona Keveza dress. The sweetheart neckline dress featured button detailing on both the bodice and at the back, with a big train in a fitted finish. Although she did look lovely, I’m rather bored by her predictable choices. I want Ari to give us something new & fresh! She’s young, and although petite she could easily go for something big. Styling with Giuseppe Zanotti heels, a Jimmy Choo clutch and sparkling silver jewels by Niwakashe also opted for her signature hairstyle and makeup.

Pretty in Pink

Taylor Swift stepped onto the red carpet in the most surprising of outfits, donning an orange & pink two-piece by Atelier Versace. The pop sensation’s look featured an orange bandeau and hot pink high-waisted mid-split full skirt. Along with her fresh bob haircut, this was all very unpredictable and rather refreshing for the tall blonde. Along with the strappy Stuart Weitzman sandals, TayTay upped the ante with a matching pink & orange necklace, rings & earrings all from Lorraine Schwartz, Offira bracelets and an orange-red lipstick to finish. She also opened the Grammy Awards, performing her hit song ‘Out Of The Woods’, changing into a bedazzled Jessica Jones midnight blue jumpsuit and matching Stuart Weitzman ankle boots. Taylor Swift also won three Grammy Awards for Best Pop Vocal Album for ‘1989’, Best Music Video for ‘Bad Blood’ and Album of the Year for ‘1989’, you can watch her acceptance speech here! Congratulations Taylor!

Florence Welch looked adorable in her boho baby pink gown by Gucci. It also featured sequin star motifs on the body as well as a sequin ribbon creating a 3D illusion that it was tied, with the skirt finishing in tulle from the calves down.

Attending with bandmates, Kimberly Schlapman of Little Big Town looked great in her colour block mermaid gown. The look featured a red bodice with an asymmetrical neckline and oversized bow on the shoulder, finishing with a light pink fishtail skirt. Her natural curls added perfect height to the look, and she finished with an Edie Parker clutch, kohl-rimmed eyes and soft pink lips. Kimberly Schlapman also won the Grammy Award for Best Country Duo/Group Performance for ‘Girl Crush’ alongside her bandmates.

A Splash of Colour

Looking fresh, Vanessa Simmons attended in an off-yellow textured gown, with its v-cut neckline and mid split on the skirt giving us lots to be in awe of. It also featured abstract designs in a contrasting grey hue, that rather clashed with her nude pointed platform heels and white silver jewels.

Kacey Musgraves attended in a strapless feathery creation by Armani Privé gown. The purple-to-blue ombré is accented by the tiers in the skirt, with silver threading throughout. The country singer wore Christian Louboutin heels and Forevermark jewellery to finish, rounding up with a high ponytail and a dewy makeup finish & nude purple lipstick.

Going for green, Tori Kelly wore a one-shoulder scuba dress to the awards. Making her debut on the Grammys red carpet, the Should’ve Been Us singer wore Gauri & Nainika, an Indian designer, adding pink pavé trim triangular earrings & matching bracelet that she styled with a white envelope bag.

Metallic Madness

Wearing the most reflective dress I’ve seen in a while, Giuliana Rancic presented on the red carpet in a mirror-embellished sleeveless column dress that fitted the bronde beautifully. Her Jani Khosla gown featured a scooped neckline, which the olive-toned beauty wore with strappy heels by Tamara Mellon along with Coomi & Bavna jewellery.

I love how Kaley Cuoco totally surprised me in her fully beaded silver & white jumpsuit, with its cut outs on the bodice & at the back too. The Big Bang Theory actress looked truly fabulous in her non-dress choice, working the one-piece with tousled beach waves and barely there makeup.

Composer & big band musician Maria Schneider dressed the part as she attended in a bronze fully sequined dress, that featured cross straps and a keyhole cut out on the bodice. The fitted gown looked great against her porcelain skin, which she styled simply with an updo and barely there makeup. Maria Schneider also won two Grammy Awards for Best Large Jazz Ensemble Album for ‘The Thompson Fields’ and Best Arrangement, Instruments and Vocals for ‘Sue (Or in a Season of Crime)’ with David Bowie.

Beautiful in Blue

Walking with her BFF, Selena Gomez wore a stunning metallic blue cut out dress. The v-cut Calvin Klein dress look phenomenal on the brunette singer, who styled her hair into bouncy mermaid waves, and smokey eyes to finish. She also wore a blue David Webb oversized cocktail ring along with pavé hoop earrings by Norman Silverman.

Ashley Monroe looked Spring fresh wearing a mint-coloured gown with a flowing overlay that she described as “angel wings”, which was broken up by the plunging neckline.

Young singer Ellie Soufi attended in a royal blue & sheer fitted two-piece dress that featured intricate beaded embellishment on the bodice. The sleeveless high neck crop top was teamed with a fitted blue skirt & train, with an embellished waistline that worked beautifully on the brunette. She added more sparkle with drop earrings & bracelets, with a sideswept hairstyle and flawless smokey eyes.

Lady Gaga stepped onto the red carpet in true honour of the late David Bowie donning a custom-made Marc Jacobs creation, sporting orange hair and a royal blue coat dress adorned with swirl embroidery & sequins that also featured exaggerated shoulders, bringing us back to the 1980s. The singer also opted for ombré blue glitter eye makeup, and of course ridiculously high platform lace up boots. I really would have loved this look with normal height heels, but it is Lady Gaga and she loves the extreme fashions. She also performed in tribute to David Bowie, donning a white caped jumpsuit with embellishments that was also designed by Marc Jacobs, which you can watch here.

Ethereal Romance

Kaya Jones definitely looked gorgeous on the red carpet, attending in this white & nude ornate patterned gown. The look featured a deep sweetheart cut neckline with a complimentary mid split on the skirt but with sheen panels on the skirt and a sheer full-length cape too. Her blonde extensions created quite the curly frenzy but she looked gorgeous with them, rounding up with shimmering eye makeup, a dewy glow and nude lips.

Lauren Diagle also stunned at the awards, wearing this beautiful tulle & embellished gown on the evening. It featured exquisite gemstone & sequin embellishments all over the body of the dress from the neckline to the shoulders and down into the skirt before disappearing a flurry of nude-coloured tulle. The look was definitely a statement that didn’t need accessorizing, though the young brunette only added earrings & a diamond bracelet, I do think the latter was even too much for this dress. Something more dainty would’ve sufficed such a statement look. But her braided updo, soft pink lips and eyeliner were the perfect finishing touches.

Rapper Serayah stepped out in a sexy yet romantic custom-made gown by Vera Wang. The wrap dress featured an asymmerical neckline and cut out on the bodice and side to compliment the thigh-high leg split that also featured a lace up detail. It’s not your typical ethereal look, but the lilac colour and that long train are what I find most romantic. Serayah completed her look with a straight bob, plum purple lips with lace up Stuart Weitzman sandals and an Oroton clutch. Click here to buy Serayah’s clutch!

The Femme Suit

Zendaya loves to play on the red carpet, and definitely did so in her androgynous look, as she wore a DSquared2 double-breasted suit, complete with an 80s mullet hairstyle. I’m guessing she’s channeling the late David Bowie, and she’s totally working it. Adding black Giuseppe Zanotti heels with rings by Butani and Casa Reale, Zendaya rocked this femme suit perfectly.

Also going for the femme suit, Bonnie McKee attended in a custom-made Bullet Apparel by Jim Tanner creation. Her liquid silver suit was worn sans shirt, with nude pink lapels to match her nude peeptoe platforms. Pink curly hair, an embellished gold box clutch and dark smokey eyes completed her look.

The Couples

As you know, I love a well dressed couple and though some of these may not be matching per se, they look darn good together. I especially love what Kirk Franklin and his guest wore, matching blues; Russell Wilson & Ciara in their sophisticated and sexy attire; Chrissy Teigen & John Legend working the parents-to-be look; and Ace Harper & Matt Sorum looking like the coolest rock couple ever. Also can we just appreciate Pharrell Williams’ new blonde hair and that femme jacket?!

Menswear

The menswear was at a high on the Grammys red carpet, with many opting for a classic suit like James Bay, Big Sean, Jack Antonoff, Ross Mathews, Justin Bieber and Grammys host LL Cool J; while others stepped out of the box for something more fun, including duo Galantis, Skrillex & Diplo, who also won two Grammy Awards on the night; and British rapper Labrinth and singer Sam Smith; and bringing some colour to the red carpet were country artist Sam Hunt, rapper Flying Lotus and Killer Fashion favourite, Jidenna, who presented part of the Premiere Ceremony in a dark brown checked suit before switching into this electric blue hue. Special shout out to my favourite Ed Sheeran, who finally received his Grammy Awards for Song of the Year and Best Pop Solo Performance, both for ‘Thinking Out Loud’!

WTF Moment…

Well, there are always stars who love to really challenge the red carpet and step out in something bizarre & interesting. Lady Gaga once arrived in an egg, and Nicki Minaj came by with “The Pope”, so really it’s no surprise that we’ve had weird moments at the award shows.
