Best Dressed at Critics’ Choice Awards 2016

Last night (January 17th) the 21st annual Critics’ Choice Awards 2016 took place at the Barker Hangar in Santa Monica, California, to honour the finest in cinematic achievement in both movies & television from the past year. Following the magnificent showcase at the Golden Globes, I was excited to see what the film industry’s finest would bring to this blue carpet – and it was a pretty good turnout! With Silicon Valley actor T.J. Miller hosting, the show was bound to be a good one too! Have a look below at who made the Killer Fashion Best Dressed list, and who won the big awards on the night!

Critics Choice Awards 2016b

The Best Dressed

I’ve always been a fan of actress Krysten Ritter, so I am delighted she’s topped the Best Dressed list for the awards! The porcelain beauty & Critics’ Choice Awards nominee attended the awards donning a deep, dark red Zuhair Murad Couture gown, which features a wide-v neckline and embellishment all over the bodice and upper section of the skirt. The soft pleats in the dress and sleeveless finish were perfect, and I love the Jimmy Choo metallic clutch addition, along with H. Stern drop earrings, smokey eyes and nude lips, with a fuss-free hairstyle to finish. Just beautiful!

Lady in Red

Always a great one for this list, Liz Hernandez looked great in her silk bodice jumpsuit by Karen Millen. The slight wrap on the top complimented the wide-legged trousers, that she styled with nude patent pumps and minimal jewels.

Carrie Keagan gave us some va va voom, donning this off-the-shoulder sweetheart gown by Fouad Sarkis Couture. The presenter’s scarlet red fitted gown was truly gorgeous, showing off Carrie’s curves beautifully. She added Coomi Jewelry to her look, wearing a matching necklace & cuff bracelet, with red lipstick and tousled curls to finish.

Also opting for a statement gown, Kether Donohue attended in a strapless fitted bodice & full-skirted gown in an off-red hue. The dress featured an asymmetrical cut on the overlay of the skirt, adding volume to the look, which the You’re The Worst actress styled with a deep plum lipstick, smokey eyes and simple jewels.

Classic Black & White

Rosie Huntington-Whiteley stepped out again with fiancé Jason Statham, wearing head to toe Saint Laurent. Looking sexy in a black gown from the Saint Laurent by Hedi Slimane collection, the dress also featured an asymmetrical cut neckline, a leg slit and train. The British model opted for a slicked back hairstyle, silver sandals and a matching designer clutch, as well as Anita Ko earrings. Nude lips and smokey eyes completed her look, along with her beautiful engagement ring.

Redheaded beauty Bryce Dallas Howard attended in a black plunging Balmain dress. The half-sleeves wrap dress featured a slight v-cut on the skirt and an embellished motif on the waist, complimented by her Jacob & Co necklace & earrings, an Edie Parker clutch and T-bar heels by Miu Miu. A sleek wrap-over ponytail, sultry smokey eyes and nude lips completed the actress’ awards attire.

I always love a woman who opts for the femme suit, and Aya Cash sure did that right. The You’re The Worst actress stepped out in a Sandro shirt & suit, complete with an oversized bow that she styled with Sylva & Cie  emerald earrings and bronze toe-capped pumps by Jerome C. Rousseau.

Tracee Ellis Ross attended the awards donning a Randi Rahm Studio dress on the blue carpet. Her scooped neck dress features beautifully embellished capped shoulder with floral & linear motifs, in a fitted finish with a slight train, that the actress wore with Neil Lane jewellery, a Rauwolf clutch and heels by Sophia Webster. I really love those earrings, and that she opted for an updo, kohl-rimmed eyes and nude lips. It all works so perfectly!

Leslie Mann looked so beautiful on the night, donning a strapless black & white bandeau tutu dress. The Monique Lhuillier creation featured an ombré effect on the tulle skirt with subtle metallic threading, that the actress styled with pointed mesh heels by Christian Louboutin, a cylindrical Amanda Pearl clutch and jewellery by Borgioni Jewels. Red lipstick, a chic pulled-back updo and husband-on-arm, and Leslie was all set for the awards.

The Hateful Eight actress Jennifer Jason Leigh wore a sophisticated off-the-shoulder dress on the blue carpet. The Critics’ Choice Awards nominee’s black dress choice featured a contrasting white panel along the neckline, with the column fit adding to the classy attire. She wore a selection of rings but opted for no more accessories, and finished with fresh-faced makeup and a curled hairstyle.

Sarah Hay donned this strapless number with a thigh-high split that really showed off a lot of leg. Her sweetheart neckline dress also featured subtle metallic threading motifs throughout. Gold heels to match her speckled cylindrical clutch, an off-red lipstick and minimal jewels completed her awards attire.

Raychel Diane Weiner attended in a black & white cut out dress, that featured a pleated skirt and contrasting black panel, which she styled with a thin gold waistbelt. I love her wavy pixie haircut and that smoldering eye makeup, which she finished with nude lips and a gold clutch too.

Actress Constance Zimmer was also in attendance donning a black & cream Tracy Reese dress. Her contrasting striped A-line dress was styled with Lori Blu nude pumps, jewels by Hearts on Fire, and a black Kotur box clutch. A relaxed updo and red lipstick & manicure were the perfect finishing touches for this look. Constance Zimmer also won the Critics’ Choice Award for Best Supporting Actress in a Drama Series for ‘UnREAL’.

Angelic in Blush

Breaking the typical dress code, Charissa Thompson wore a beige Elie Saab jumpsuit to the Critics’ Choice Awards. Her sleeveless look featured a triangular contrasting panel on the waist, with a tailing piece off the waist too. The sleek one-piece was simply styled with a deep pink manicure, nude pink lips and a tidy wavy hairstyle.

Going for a boho look, Carly Chaikin attended in this nude chiffon dress by Chloé. Her wide-v cut dress featured ruffled trims, bell sleeves and a lilac waistband for a cinched-in finish. She added Brian Atwood platforms to her awards attire, along with a Lee Savage clutch, Norman Silverman jewellery and a sideswept fishtail plait with smokey eyes.

Rectify actress Abigail Spencer stepped out in a nude-coloured gown by J. Mendel. Her dress featured a squared halter neckline with open sides under which she wore a black bandeau. The dress also featured a mid split on the skirt and ruffled trims for a sweet & sophisticated finish. Styling her look with strappy sandals by Tamara Mellon, gold earrings, cuff & rings by Marina B, and a matching nude pink & gold box clutch from Lee Savage, the brunette looked every bit beautiful as she did at the People’s Choice Awards, a few ago.

Yael Grobglas attended the awards in a beautiful champagne dress by Black Halo Eve. The Israeli actress’ fitted column dress featured an iridescent texture with spaghetti straps for a classy finish, which she wore with a simplistic pendant necklace & bracelet, pearl drop earrings and red lipstick. I love that she opted for a bouffant updo, as it really helps focus on her beautiful smile and of course, the dress.

I loved seeing Nashville actress Hayden Panettiere on the blue red carpet – I’ve missed her at the awards the past few months! The mother of one & Critics’ Choice Awards nominee walked the pre-show in a sexy nude gown by Maria Lucia Hohan. Her chiffon dress featured a cut out on the bodice with structured details that gave us plenty of va va voom, which she styled with Stuart Weitzman shoes, a silver clutch by Monica Rich Kosann and Neil Lane jewellery. Neutral makeup, soft waves and nude lipstick completed her look. One of the best things I noticed about Hayden on the blue carpet was her constant smile, because she did not stop! Such a cutie!

The Beautiful Blues

Jean Smart wore a slate blue gown to the awards, which featured heavy embellishments around the shoulders, sides, waist and along the neckline, with tulle capped sleeves and a slight gathered detail on the waist. Suede pumps, a metallic box clutch and tousled curls completed her look. Jean Smart also won the Critics’ Choice Award for Best Supporting Actress In A Movie Made For Television Or Limited Series for ‘Fargo’.

Always one to step out of the box, Judith Light attended in a black & navy ensemble, donning a black long sleeve high neck top with a midnight blue chiffon skirt. She wore the look with an oversized navy blazer on the shoulders, dark eye makeup and black pumps to finish.

Wearing a full-length bodycon dress, Andrea Navedo attended the awards in a blue cross halterneck dress. The classic Hervé Léger by Max Azria dress featured cut out detail on the bodice, which she wore with a matching designer clutch. Statement earrings, nude lips and soft waves completed her awards attire.

Samantha Harris attended the Critics’ Choice Awards in a cut out dress by Mignon, which featured embellished trims on the bodice & skirt, and a thigh high split too. The midnight blue look was teamed with metallic pewter sandals, silver jewels by 14 Karat, Clara Kasavina clutch and a bouffant half up-half down hairstyle.

Actress Constance Wu was such an ethereal sight, in her pale blue v-cut gown. The flowy dress featured an embellished shoulder panel on one side and a caped sleeve on the other, with gathered detail on the waist and a relaxed fit finish. Her H. Stern pink crystal drop earrings were such a beautiful addition, along with the Amanda Pearl box clutch, the wispy braided updo and the pink lipstick. I am a big fan of this look!

Our Irish girl Saoirse Ronan was also in attendance to the awards, donning a sky blue Antonio Berardi dress. The young actress & Critics’ Choice nominee opted for a column gown with caped back finish that also featured silver embellishments on the sleeves. The Brooklyn star added gemstone drop earrings by Stephen Webster and Brian Atwood heels to her look, with fresh-faced makeup & subtle smokey eyes, and a half up-half down hairstyle to finish. Just beautiful!

January Jones wore a sky blue dress too, opting for a v-cut midi dress that featured a bead-embellished overlay. The actress wore strappy Bionda Castana heels, zero jewels and styled her hair into an updo.

A Splash of Colour

I love a bit of flirty fun on the (red) carpet, and Marti Noxon definitely did it proud. Her strapless sweetheart dress featured a pink bodice, with a lilac waistband & contrasting purple panel, and a beautiful white skirt that bore pink cherry blossom prints. Yes Marti’s hair is pink, but she works it brilliantly and I just adore this look!

Also opting for pink, Critics’ Choice nominee Niecy Nash attended in this soft pink asymmetrical Gauri & Nainika crepe dress. The look featured a waterfall overlay, which the tall actress wore with Giuseppe Zanotti heels, a cuff bracelet, rings & earrings by Bavna and a dazzling cylindrical clutch from Swarovski. Her makeup & sleek hairstyle were flawless, and Niecy’s constant smile had everyone around her smiling too.

Gina Rodriguez looked lovely in her coral orange v-cut dress, with its structured fit and capped sleeves by SAFiYAA. The actress opted for a sparkling silver cocktail ring and earrings from Pasquale Bruni for some oomph, finishing her look with a chic updo and red lipstick.

Kathryn Hahn attended in a bright yellow, textured gown that sure stood out against the blue carpet. The wide-v cut look featured subtle brocade design which the actress styled with a side L.K. Bennett heels, a Lee Savage metallic box clutch and red lipstick to finish.

Marisa Tomei was one of few to wear an above-the-knee cut dress, as she showed up in a Zuhair Murad look. Her mini dress featured red rose motifs, with a black sheer lace design along the neckline and a lace overlay on the skirt. The brunette actress added Niwaka Collections jewels to her look, along with Tamara Mellon pumps and a Tyler Alexandra envelope clutch, exaggerated lashes & nude lipstick.

Going for green, Melissa McCarthy attended in this Melissa McCarthy Design dress. I love to see the ladies (and gents) wearing their own designs, and this leaf printed look dress suits the actress really well. The dress features a v-cut neckline, chiffon trims and an olive-coloured sash along with a pleated skirt finish. The actress added a colourful embellished clutch by Alice + Olivia, jewellery by Anne Sisteron and heels by Jimmy Choo, rounding up her awards attire with kohl-rimmed eyes and a relaxed wavy hairstyle.

Always one for a bit of fun, actress Zoe Kazan wore a strapless column gown by Oscar de la Renta by Peter Copping. The look featured an embroidered & embellished bodice in silver, pink & red hues, while the skirt’s front was a red & black Jacquard design and the back solid black. The dress does almost contradict itself, but it’s rather classic Oscar de la Renta, and the blonde actress pulls it off well. She added Charlotte Olympia heels and a pink embellished clutch to the look, along with kohl-rimmed eyes and an off-pink lip.

Carrie Coon also opted for yellow, mixing it up with panels of white in this beautiful strapless dress. The off-the-shoulder look featured structured designs on the bodice & skirt, with a slight waterfall cut that showed off her gold parkling T-bar heels. The blonde actress added a matching yellow & gold cylindrical clutch to her look, along with stunning gold & silver drop earrings by Maryam Shahbazi and smokey eyes. Carrie Coon also won the Critics’ Choice Award for Best Actress in a Drama Series for ‘The Leftovers’.

Embellished & Embroidered

Opting for a vintage look, Kirsten Dunst attended the awards in a silver flapper-style dress by Karl Lagerfeld. Although this look doesn’t feature fringe details, the tiered look does feature delicate beading & embellishments, similar to that of the flapper dress. The actress added a Salvatore Ferragamo clutch, Roger Vivier Couture pumps and Fred Leighton jewellery.

Portia Doubleday opted for a cheeky number, wearing a sheer embroidered gown by Novis. The fish net overlay dress featured all-over floral embroidery, which the actress wore with black lingerie underneath, black heels and a Farbod Barsum clutch. A braided updo, cat eyeliner and nude lips rounded up her awards look.

Izabella Miko attended in a black low-cut halterneck dress that featured a wide waistband and an embroidered skirt & train by designer Julia Clancey. The actress’ look was styled with a clutch bag, drop earrings and a braided bun hairstyle.

Making her mark on the (red) carpet, Swedish actress Alicia Vikander attended the awards wearing Mary Katrantzou. The brunette beauty’s dress was also a sheer style, with all-over embellishment including iridescent gems on the skirt and a capelet overlay on the bodice. The sleeveless look was styled with minimal jewels and a fuss-free updo & fresh-faced makeup to finish. Alicia Vikander also won the Critics’ Choice Award for Best Supporting Actress for ‘The Danish Girl’.

Dame Helen Mirren looked stunning in her black & white sheer printed gown, which also featured lace panels & trims with a wrap finish on the bodice. The Dolce & Gabbana gown was the perfect fit for the acting legend, brilliantly styled with a faux fur clutch, Kwiat jewellery and off-red lipstick.
