Best Dressed at Golden Globe Awards 2016

Last night (January 10th) the 73rd annual Golden Globe Awards 2016 took place at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Beverly Hills, Los Angeles. Like many film and fashion enthusiasts, I was extremely looking forward to the event as it really kicks off award season. The red carpet pre-show for the Golden Globes is one of my favourites; and just like the past few years, this one did not disappoint. The ladies really stepped up their fashion game, with ball gowns, sequin dresses and ethereal looks dominating; and the gents also worked the red carpet brilliantly. Back with a bang, Ricky Gervais returned to host the ceremony following his slated job back in 2012. But onto important business now, let’s get on with the show – take a look at whose made the Killer Fashion Best Dressed list this year!

Golden Globe Awards 2016-1

The Best Dressed

Barbara Meier was one of the ladies at the Golden Globes who truly blew me away. The redhead model & actress looked absolutely stunning in her powder blue tulle gown by Georges Hobeika. The German native’s dress featured a sheer short-sleeved bodice with a starburst embellished motif, a leather waistbelt and a full tulle skirt finish that was also embellished with light-reflecting sequins & beads. I just adore this hue against her porcelain complexion and of course the red hair, that she perfectly styled gemstone drop earrings, subtle red-hued & black smokey eyes, and a cream woven clutch to finish. Liebe Barbara Meier, ich liebe einfach alles!

The Golden Girls

Regina King stepped out in a metallic gold dress by Krikor Jabotian, which featured a high neck and white cape that glided behind her. She paired the look with Rene Caovilla shoes, and jewels by Coomi earrings and Alan Friedman.

Actress Brie Larson really upped her red carpet game as she attended in this custom-made Calvin Klein Collection gown. The fully sequined & beaded dress featured a cut out bralette bodice with a keyhole detail and a halter necklace to hold it all up, with the embellishment slowing down around the bottom of the skirt to showcase the champagne tulle body. I really love how she shone from each & every angle, and Brie’s smile really says it all too. She added Tiffany & Co. drop earrings with Salvatore Ferragamo heels to finish it all off. Stunning! Brie Larson also won the Golden Globe award for Best Actress Motion Picture – Drama for ‘Room’!

Fashion designer Georgina Chapman attended the awards, donning her own design of Marchesa, which featured pastel & green floral embellishments on a delicate ochre gold lace & tulle body, with caped sleeves and a plunging neckline, cinched in at the waist that gave us the American beauty’s signature designs.

Eva Green opted for this champagne-coloured strapless by Elie Saab which featured glittering sequin motifs all over the overlay with a cinched-in waist and high neckline that she didn’t add too many accessories to. Subtle wavy hair, bold red lipstick and subtle smokey eyes were all it took for the perfect finish.

One of my favourite models, Rosie Huntington-Whiteley was in attendance with her beau Jason Statham, and looked divine on the red carpet. The tall blonde wore Atelier Versace to the event, in a low v-cut glittery dress that featured an exaggerated waistband and embellished detail around the thighs before cascading into soft silk. Minimal jewellery, Jimmy Choo heels, barely there nude makeup and silky soft waves completed Rosie’s look. A big congratulations to Rosie Huntington-Whiteley & Jason Statham on their recent engagement!

White Hot

Maria Menounos is always a favourite of mine on the red carpet, and she looked gorgeous in her off-white fitted dress by Roland Mouret, with the slight v-square neckline and the subtle fishtail skirt finish. Her plaited updo, drop earrings & the statement ring by Ofira, and embellished Giuseppe Zanotti clutch, along with smokey eyes were perfect finishing touches for this look.

Working the white, Laverne Cox attended in a Elizabeth Kennedy gown. The strapless square neckline look was rather simplistic, but did feature a big rounded train. The Orange is the New Black actress styled Lorraine Schwartz jewels, a Nathalie Trad clutch and heels by Kenneth Cole to her look, finishing with a vampy lipstick and side bun hairstyle.

Jane Fonda’s look is definitely an interesting one, as the sequin ruffles on her Yves Saint Laurent Couture gown gave drama that I was not expecting, least not at the top of the dress. Chopard jewels and Jimmy Choo pumps & clutch completed the Hollywood veteran’s awards attire.

Golden Globe nominee Taraji P. Henson always gives us sass on the red carpet, and for the Golden Globes it was no different. A strapless bandeau white dress from Stella McCartney Couture, it featured a cape which the actress happily showed off, and was styled with Kimberly McDonald gemstone jewels and a gold chain & tortoise-paneled clutch bag. Personally I’m not a big fan of the look, but I can’t deny that Taraji is truly working it. Taraji P. Henson also won the Golden Globe award for Best Actress – TV Series Drama for ‘Empire’.

I really love what actress, philanthropist & all-round inspiring woman Eva Longoria wore the to awards, as she stepped out in a white Georges Hobeika dress. The look featured an embellished trim & cut out on the neckline giving the illusion of a tied bow, with colourful floral embroidery on the hips, a thin champagne-coloured waistband and mid slit on the skirt. Her white pointed pumps by Christian Louboutin and the Henri Bendel clutch were definitely the right choices for this, along with Eva’s dark smokey eye makeup and the pastel pink lipstick. I adore this from head to toe.

Double Golden Globes nominee and Swedish beauty Alicia Vikander looked lovely in her white choice by Louis Vuitton. The Danish Girl actress’ dress featured a ruffled neckline & shoulder trims, with a vertically sequin-paneled finish on the body and a contrasting waistbelt. Her updo hairstyle, soft smokey eyes and subtle pink lipstick were the perfect finishing touches for this awards look.

Lily James attended the awards in an ethereal Marchesa gown, that featured an asymmetrical gathered bodice with a slanted keyhole detail, a to-the-back scarf and a cut out on the waist. The fully tulle gown looked magnificent against the young actress’ complexion, and was matched perfectly with a Harry Winston bracelet, ring & earrings, and smoldering smokey eyes to finish.

Irish gal Saoirse Ronan has been quite talked about this awards season, and I was delighted for her Golden Globe nomination this year. The Brooklyn actress looked like a young goddess donning this white backless gown by Yves Saint Laurent Couture by Hedi Slimane, with its sleeveless v-cut neckline that draped into a cape. She kept the outfit soft & sophisticated, with Brian Atwood heels, delicate jewels from Chopard and opted for a fresh-faced makeup finish with nude pink lips.

Black Beauties

Stephanie Bauer attended wearing a black sequin-clad halter dress, which hugged her in all the right places. The geometric design on this dress is so flattering, and the Access Hollywood TV presenter worked the look effortlessly with a wavy hairstyle, smokey eyes and minimal jewels.

Kirsten Dunst was a surprise to the red carpet, and she sure gave it all in this open front velvet dress by Valentino. The porcelain-skinned actress looked all sorts of sexy & sultry as her dress featured that plunging neckline, cut outs on the sides and rope detail around the neckline & waist and the open back, finishing with a slight train. She added smokey eyes and a nude lip to complete her look.

Outlander actress Caitriona Balfe was in attendance donning a sexy Burlesque-like gown by Alexander McQueen. The black dress featured a low neckline with frill detail on the shoulders and a sheer lace overlay that ended with oversized ruffles on the trim. A sleek updo, drop earrings by Fred Leighton, a Christian Loubotuin clutch and Roger Vivier heels completed the look, along with subtle red lipstick.

Surprise, surprise: Lady Gaga attended wearing Versace Atelier. I am starting to bore of songstress’ dress choice, unlike what Jennifer Lawrence does with Dior. Yes, Lady Gaga’s custom-made off-the-shoulder velvet gown with the exaggerated hips and cinched in waist are all beautiful, but I feel I’ve seen this style too often on her. With Marilyn Monroe-esque hair, Neil Lane jewellery and flawless fresh-faced makeup with blue eyeliner, she pulls off the look beautifully…but I’m still not 100% wowed. Lady Gaga won the Golden Globe award for Best Actress – Mini Series or TV Film for ‘American Horror Story: Hotel’.

Metallic Madness

Going for a full metal look, Portia Doubleday opted for this wide v-cut Naeem Khan dress. The metallic embellished full skirted look featured a fitted waist and exaggerated bust, which the Mr. Robot actress styled with a delicate Simon G. Jewelry bracelet, a pulled back updo, exaggerated lashes and a pink lip.

Heidi Klum was also in attendance to the awards, donning a feathery grey & silver sleeveless gown by Marchesa. Her v-cut dress also featured a glistening embellished underlay and a black waistband, which the tall blonde wore with Stuart Weitzman sandals and jewels by Lorraine Schwartz.

Louise Roe attended the awards wearing an asymmetrical cut out & gathered gown by Monique Lhuillier, that had a glittering animal print to it and featured a mid split on the skirt to show off her gorgeous tassel sandals by Jimmy Choo. I’m loving her flawless makeup & that behind-the-ear curled bob too. Just beautiful!

Viola Davis looked amazing as she stepped out in a heavily embellished Marchesa gown. The midnight blue body of the gown was scattered with silver & cream-coloured beading and sequins, while the v-cut bodice and waist were more heavily decorated, and the sheer overlay on the bodice & sleeves had their fair share too. Some might say this is too much, but ladies & gents this is the Golden Globes, and this is bang on!

An embellished strapless dress for actress Kate Bosworth, the beautiful blonde walked the red carpet in a pink gown by Dolce & Gabbana. The fitted look featured a contrasting pink sequin design on the bodice with a slight train, which she wore with Christian Louboutin heels, jewels by Norman Silverman, a slick pulled back updo and a fresh-faced makeup finish.

Jane Wu attended in a silver metallic fitted gown that featured geometric patterns & plates throughout. The sleeveless look was teamed with a silver clutch, simple earrings and a pavé arm bangle, and she also opted for a slick updo with a fresh-faced makeup finish.

Opting for a big gown, Jenna Dewan-Tatum attended alongside her gorgeous husband Channing Tatum, in this midnight blue Zuhair Murad Couture look. The wide plunging neckline, the glittering embellishment, and the pocket – this is a true red carpet gown. A fuss-free updo, with Lorraine Schwartz jewellery and a matching blue satin box clutch, Jenna looked truly fabulous.

Actress Malin Åkerman stepped out in a low sweetheart strapless by Reem Acra, which featured a fun & flirty peplum detail from the waist on an embellished lace body.  The blondie added a silver box clutch, minimal jewels and sultry smokey eyes with a nude lip to complete.

Lady in Red

Emmy Rossum attended in a strapless red dress by Armani Privé, wearing the maxi with a pavé choker necklace by Chopard. The brunette beauty added minimal accessories to finish; Brian Atwood heels, with strong brows, flawless makeup & a scarlet red lipstick and a metallic box clutch to round-up her awards attire. Check out Pickture to steal her Golden Globes style!

I didn’t recognize actress Felicity Huffman as she stepped out to the Globes in a brunette hairstyle. She attended wearing a stunning dark red sequin dress by Lorena Sarbu, which she wore with heels by Badgley Mischka and jewellery from Martin Katz.

Also stepping out in red was actress Natalie Dormer. The Game of Thrones actress wore a J. Mendel dress, with an interesting black halter neckpiece, gathered off-the-shoulder sleeves, a keyhole detail on the bodice and an exaggerated cinched-in waistline. She added a black Judith Leiber clutch & drop earrings to the look, and tied her hair into a chic ponytail with smokey eyes to finish.

Zendaya really blew me away in her three-tiered plunging gown by Marchesa, which made her look even taller than she already is. The dark red floral printed dress was styled with a black embellished box clutch, also by MarchesaYoko London earrings & rings as well as a ring by Lydia Courteille. A dark nude lip, subtle red-hued eye makeup and tucked back long locks rounded up her red carpet ready finish.

Opting for a sexy finish, actress Olivia Wilde attended in a custom-made dark red all-over sequin dress by Michael Kors Collection. The plunging neckline and built-in waistband dress was teamed with a box clutch & stunning vintage gemstone necklace by Bvlgari, and custom-dyed shoes by ALDO Shoes. A wavy hairstyle, red smokey eyes with a nude lip and this lovely lady was ready to party.

One of my favourite actresses, Jennifer Lawrence also stepped out in red, wearing Dior Couture. With some brand ambassadresses I become bored of the repeat designer, but not with JLaw. The Dior ambassadress’ look featured a sexy cut out along the sides with a caped bodice & open back and was teamed with a stunning Chopard bib necklace and delicate rings. The Joy actress kept the rest of her look nice & tidy with a brushed back hairstyle and soft red lips. Jennifer Lawrence also won the Golden Globe award for Best Actress – Motion Picture Musical or Comedy for ‘Joy’, congratulations!

Gorgeous Greens

Keltie Knight attended in a sexy off-the-shoulder gown by Walter Mendez. The dark green gown featured gathered detail on the bust and across the waist, with a low sweetheart neckline and a fishtail skirt finish. Adding more oomph, the TV presenter added minimal jewels, with sideswept curls and exaggerated lashes to finish.

Crazy Ex-Girlfriend actress & Golden Globe nominee Rachel Bloom also showed up in a gorgeous green hue, wearing this off-the-shoulder custom creation by Christian Siriano. The foldover along the wide neckline works beautifully with the understated dress, which fitted the actress perfectly. She added Christian Louboutin heels and a green & gold box clutch by Salvatore Ferragamo to finish. Rachel Bloom won the Golden Globe for Best Actress in TV Series – Comedy or Musical for ‘Crazy Ex-Girlfriend’.

And then Jaimie Alexander also worked the forest green hue, looking stunning in a wide plunging gown by Italian design house Genny. The black & green patterned dress featured a full skirt, which she wore with complimentary emerald green jewellery by Lorraine Schwartz. A voluminous upstyle, smokey eyes and her gorgeous smile were all that were needed for this look.

Working the green gown, Jada Pinkett Smith looked wondrous as she walked the red carpet with husband Will Smith, donning this seagreen Versace number. The cowl neck dress featured an embellished waistband and side leg slit, as well as a caped finish that fell beautifully. The actress added Van Cleef jewellery and green satin peeptoes by Jimmy Choo, finishing with soft green smokey eyes and a nude lip. Beautiful!

The Beautiful Blues

Liliana Vazquez attended in a tiered strapless cerulean blue gown that featured sheer layers, which she worked with a sideswept hairstyle, delicate jewels, nude lips and exaggerated lashes to finish.

Golden Globes nominee Gina Rodriguez did look gorgeous in her slate blue full gown by Zac Posen. The design was very Zac Posen-esque with its full skirt, that off-the-shoulder and the fold-over details. The brunette beauty added Neil Lane jewellery and shoes by Jimmy Choo, tucked her hair back and opted for strong cat eyeliner to finish.

Standing out in a bright turquoise gown, Queen Latifah attended the Golden Globes donning this sleeveless gown with its embellished neckline. The look was teamed with statement drop earrings, cocktail rings and a straight hairstyle, with flawless makeup to finish.

Opting for a dark blue look, actress Kate Winslet attended donning a halter dress by Ralph Lauren. The dress featured a satin trim that cross-tied into the halterneck and complimented the satin panel on the body too. Neil Lane jewels, a wavy side bun and barely there makeup completed her awards look. Kate Winslet won the Golden Globe award for Best Supporting Actress – Motion Picture for ‘Steve Jobs’.

Golden Globes nominee & Downton Abbey actress Joanne Froggatt attended the awards wearing a strapless plunging sweetheart dress by Reem Acra. The gathered bustier look featured a contrasting waistband, which she styled with a silver satin & embellished-trim box clutch by Judith Leiber, Chopard jewellery and Stuart Weitzman shoes.

Rocking a sequin blue long sleeve, Oscar-winning actress Julianne Moore showed up on the red carpet in Tom Ford, alongside the designer himself. The dress featured a cut out on one shoulder with contrasting velvet trims and hugged the redhead in all the right places. Chopard jewellery, beachy waves and barely there makeup completed her look.

Calista Flockkhart looked adorable in her teal and bronze-embellished look by Andrew Gn. The dress featured soft double-layer short sleeves, with an embellished neckline, waistband and bodice, which the actress wore with a gold beaded foldover. I love that she opted for a fresh-faced barely there makeup finish and a fuss-free hairstyle.

Giving Julianne Moore some red carpet competition, Bryce Dallas Howard also attended the awards in a blue embellished gown. Wearing Jenny Packham, the georgette gown featured a patterned blue reflective scalloped-sequins with sheer peekaboo and a sheer plunging neckline on the bodice. Her straight hairstyle with orange, red & gold double drop earrings and matching blue box clutch worked wonders against the actress’ porcelain complexion, and she too opted for a barely there makeup finish. Click here to buy Bryce Dallas Howard’s Golden Globes dress!

A Splash of Colour

Making her Golden Globes debut, singer Katy Perry attended in a baby pink fitted dress with a wide v-cut neckline showing off plenty of cleavage. The column gown was teamed with voluminous hair, matching pink lips and a statement pavé cuff bracelet & drop earrings by Harry Winston.

Amy Adams looked great donning an orange fitted dress by Atelier Versace. The redhead’s Golden Globes look featured a sequin embellished waistline that fell around her waist and down one side of the skirt, contrasting perfectly against the orange hue of the crepe dress. She added Neil Lane jewellery, a Salvatore Ferragamo clutch and heels by Jimmy Choo, finishing up with curled tresses and subtle makeup. Gorgeous!

Donning a floral patterned strapless, actress Rachel McAdams attended in Lanvin. Her textured gown featured raspberry & green motifs on a black body, with a sweetheart neckline and cinched in waist, which she styled with minimal jewellery from Forevermark Diamonds, a pulled back hairstyle and red lipstick.

Cate Blanchett stepped out in a powder pink & white creation by Givenchy Haute Couture, which featured delicate lace & sheer designs with half-sleeves, fringe-caped shoulders and more fringing on the skirt. A Roger Viver clutch, Tiffany & Co. jewellery and a voluminous sideswept updo with smokey eyes rounded up the actress’ look.

Always one of my favourite best dressed ladies, Giuliana Rancic looked gorgeous wearing a cut out Alex Perry dress. The look featured deep cut outs on the waist and floor-length cut off sleeves with exaggerated shoulders. The TV presenter styled her tangerine attire with gold strappy  Manolo Blahnik heels and Forevermark jewels, a coral lipstick and shimmering eye makeup.

Bursting onto the scene in a mustard yellow hue, Jennifer Lopez stepped out in Giambattista Valli. Her wrap dress featured a cape design, thigh-high leg split and a train for extra drama that JLo pulled off with ease. I love this colour on the actress & singer, her olive complexion suits it perfectly, and was styled with Harry Winston statement jewels, silver embellished ankle strap heels by Jimmy Choo, and a silver Judith Leiber.

Attending with her husband, Leslie Mann looked adorable in her powder pink Monique Lhuillier gown. The sleeveless straight neckline dress featured a relaxed bodice, fitted waistband and the prettiest of sequin & bead embellished tulle skirts I’ve seen. The floral motifs are just so cute! The comedic actress added Brian Atwood shoes, a matching pink clutch by Tyler Alexander, Lorraine Schwartz rings and a necklace & earrings by Irene Neuwirth.

America Ferrera also joined the party in yellow, donning a Jenny Packham sleeveless gown to the Golden Globes. The high neck dress featured a keyhole detail on the bodice, embellished waistbands and collar all one a pleated canary yellow body. The Superstore actress added a box clutch by Judith Leiber Couture, Brian Atwood heels and jewellery from Simon G, keeping her styling fuss-free with a slicked back hairstyle and red lipstick.

Attending with husband Johnny Depp, Amber Heard looked beautiful wearing a champagne-coloured Gucci Couture gown with a pale pink tullle overlay. The sleeveless high neck gown featured floral motifs along the neckline, which the actress styled with Neil Lane jewellery, a tucked-under hairstyle and red lipstick. I love Amber’s look, it’s romantic and girly, and just gorgeous!

The Couples

Oh how I love when the couples step out together, and especially so when they dress together. Here are my favourite best dressed couples from the Golden Globes, notably Ken & Tran Jeong, Rosie Huntington-Whiteley & Jason Statham who recently became engaged, Olivia Wilde & Jason Sudeikis and Jason’s brilliantly comfortable Air Jordan sneakers, Jada Pinkett Smith & Will Smith, Star Wars veteran Harrison Ford & Castila Flockhart, Golden Globe nominee Channing Tatum & Jenna Dewan-Tatum and Channing’s ridiculously sexy hair, Enniko Parris & Kevin Hart, and Miss Golden Globe Corinne Foxx & her father Jamie Foxx.
