Last night (November 1st), the 19th annual Hollywood Film Awards took place at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in downtown Los Angeles, to celebrate all things film from the past year. Like last year’s ceremony, the red carpet was filled with movie stars, music artists and all of the behind-the-scenes professionals, and the fashion was a great mix of fun and fabulous. So, let’s see who is on the Killer Fashion Best Dressed List for this year, and who went home with those shiny awards too!
The Best Dressed
Joining her handsome husband on the red carpet, Jenna Dewan-Tatum was a stand out in her pale yellow & black halterneck dress from Zuhair Murad. I love how this cut out dress is both sexy and sophisticated, with its peekaboo panelled finish on the waist and the slight slit on the skirt. She worked the look perfectly with contrasting black & silver accessories including Lorraine Schwartz jewellery and a beaded clutch by Rauwolf, and that smouldering smokey eye makeup with the swept up hairstyle & nude lipstick are truly perfect finishing touches.
Though Amber Heard and her husband skipped the red carpet, we still got a look at her stunning awards attire, as she wore this glistening culottes jumpsuit by Temperley London. The actress shone from all angles in her intricately beaded ochre jumpsuit, which featured an open v-neckline with a belted waist and was a relaxed fit. She added gold & sheer Jimmy Choo heels to her look and an array of gold, silver & crystal-encrusted jewellery, sweeping her hair up into a messy bun and finishing the look with extremely fresh-faced makeup & nude lipstick. Beautiful!
Amy Schumer attended in an LBD, wearing this black layered v-cut mini dress with a contrasting white underskirt. Keeping her look sweet & simple, the comedic actress wore black suede pointed pumps sans jewellery, with exaggerated lashes, a black manicure and minimal makeup. Amy Schumer was also honoured with the Hollywood Comedy Award for ‘Trainwreck’.
Wearing an above-the-ankle black number, actress Carey Mulligan walked the red carpet in this Erdem dress. Her tiered glitzy look featured a criss cross halter neckline, which I really love. Keeping her accessories rather minimal, she added Anita Ko jewels and Christian Louboutin heels to her ensemble, also opting for a fresh-faced makeup finish with tousled curls. Carey Mulligan was also honoured with the Hollywood Actress Award for ‘Suffragette‘.
Skipping the red carpet walk, one of my favourite ladies, Amy Poehler, presented the Hollywood Animation Award for ‘Inside Out’ to her colleague & director Pete Docter at the HFAs. Amy looked her usual sophisticated self in a lovely black midi dress, which features leather panels along the neckline and sides in a bodycon finish. Beige striped barely there sandals, a pulled back bun and hoop earrings rounded up her look.
Jordana Brewster looked great in her monochrome full-length dress at the awards. Her dress featured a roundneck with a white panel along the upper neckline and a black body, with sheer mesh in between as well as for the dress’ floor-sweeping underlay that was embroidered with red & black motifs. The sleeveless look was worn with black sandals, flawless makeup and a chic kept-back hairstyle.
Also opting not to walk the red carpet, actress Laura Dern attended the show in a black & white grid-patterned sleeveless dress. Her relaxed mermaid gown had an asymmetrical cut on the bodice, where a leather body replaced the pattern that complimented the small leather panel on the hips too. I’m loving the fresh-faced beauty trend we’re seeing on this red carpet, which Laura also opted for with a dark nude lipstick to finish.
Lee Purcell looked fabulous for the awards, donning this gold gown on the evening. The embellished body & sleeves really add to the wide-v neckline for that bit of oomph, whilst the satin skirt was such a beautiful finish. The actress styled an ochre satin clutch to her outfit, along with gold strappy heels and an off-red lipstick to complete. Glamorous from head to toe!
Multi-talented beauty Danica McKellar attended in this sequin-clad mini dress, by Shail K. USA which also featured a wide-v neckline along with striped motifs and capped sleeves. Her look glistened from all angles, and she upped told gold ante with metallic strappy heels & jewels. Click to buy Danica McKellar’s HFAs dress!
Our homegrown heroine Saoirse Ronan was in Hollywood for the awards too, dazzling in this gold textured mini dress, which she wore with a cream high neck blouse. The mini also featured pockets, and was styled with a black pearl-tassel necklace and ankle-strap suede heels. I actually really like this look, it’s age appropriate for the 21-year-old, and I love how Saoirse’s shimmering gold-bronze eye makeup works perfectly with the dress, along with the kohl eyeliner and the sideswept hairstyle. So much love for this whole ensemble. Saoirse Ronan was also honoured with the New Hollywood Award for ‘Brooklyn’, – congratulations!
Elizabeth Cantillon attended in a chic white & black midi straight-cut dress. A v-cut neckline with a contrasting black floral vine down one side of the dress and styled with black slingbacks, this is one classy lady look!
Giving us a muted but beautiful look, Taylor Armstrong looked gorgeous in this roll neck cream-coloured dress, which cut off at the ankles showing off her metallic ankle strap peeptoes. I love that minaudière, the selection of a gold cuff and beaded bracelets with the dark lashes and pink lip colour.
Jane Fonda was quite a surprise on the red carpet, as her all white everything look was quite a mix up. The high-waisted tiered ra ra full length skirt, with a diamond netted top underneath, and a criss cross-cut out blazer to finish on top. I don’t hate this…but I’m not 100% in love with it either. I just…can’t put my finger on it. What do you think? Jane Fonda was also honoured with the Hollywood Supporting Actress Award for ‘Youth’.
Now, Reese Witherspoon knew where it was at, as she glided down in this white Haney ‘The Karolina’ dress. Her sleeveless mini featured an asymmetrical cut on the hem, made up of this peekaboo interlinked lace motif. Keeping her look sweet & simple, Reese styled it with Saint Laurent barely there sandals and jewellery by Irene Neuwirth. Click here to buy Reese Witherspoon’s HFAs dress!
A Splash of Colour
Presenting the award to aforementioned Amy Schumer, Selena Gomez attended the HFAs in this simply sweet Narciso Rodriguez dress. Her off-pink low scoop neckline dress was styled with Jimmy Choo heels, earrings & rings by Maison Dauphin and a clutch from The Row. Keeping with the beauty trend of the night, Selena opted for light makeup with a fuss free hairstyle, rounding up her look beautifully. Click here to buy Selena Gomez’ HFAs dress! (Different colour)
Tilda Del Toro was in attendance in a midnight blue strapless satin dress, which was as simplistic as it was beautiful. She kept her look fuss free too, styling with select few jewels and a messy side braid & exaggerated lashes to finish. Just beautiful!
Also on the red carpet was actress Michelle Rodriguez, who attended in a low straight neckline maxi dress by Solace. The coral orange dress featured thin shoulder straps as well as straps around the waist & back, which the Fast & Furious star wore with Casadei heels and jewellery by Jacquie Aiche. Michelle Rodriguez and co-stars were honoured with Hollywood Blockbuster Award for ‘Furious 7’. Click here to buy Michelle Rodriguez’ HFAs dress!
Giving us some boho vibes, 50 Shades of Grey actress Dakota Johnson walked the red carpet in a sheer & colourful frock. Her black sheer dress featured an overlay embroidered in turquoise, green & red motifs complete with a blouse collar and cinched-in waistline. I’m sure many others will talk about Dakota’s choice to go sans bra AND sans pasties, but I commend her for the decision. If we can empower ourselves, then why not! It’s her body, and she looks beautiful. Heck, if Miley and Rihanna can do it – why not Dakota too! Colourful rings and strappy peeptoe heels completed the actress’ awards look.
The men are on a roll this season, with my favourites stepping out on the red carpet in dapper suits. Actor Channing Tatum looked so handsome in his midnight blue suit and those brown shoes, and Channing, alongside his costars, was honoured with the Hollywood Ensemble Award for ‘Quentin Tarantino’s The Hateful Eight’ – congratulations!
HFAs host James Corden looked great in his deep berry red suit and black buckle-accent shoes. James did a fantastic job, as per usual, hosting the awards.
Artist Charlie Puth joined rapper Wiz Khalifa on the red carpet, the stage and later in the press room, donning a charcoal tweed suit with a brown shirt, while Wiz attended in an aubergine purple suit with an open white shirt, his signature sunglasses and slippers. Charlie Puth & Wiz Khalifa were also honoured with the Hollywood Song Award for ‘See You Again’ from ‘Furious 7’.
Others whose looks I loved included Will Smith, Ryan Gosling, Johnny Depp, Edgar Rameriz, Jake Gyllenhaal and award recipient Joel Edgerton, who was honoured with the Hollywood Breakout Male Actor for ‘Black Mass’.
