Best Dressed at the Oscars 2015

So last night was the big one. The 87th annual Academy Awards (Oscars) were on at the Dolby Theatre in downtown Hollywood, with one of my favourite comedic actors, Neil Patrick Harris, hosting for the first time. But before the brilliant show was underway, there was the red carpet show. And my what a beautiful showcase of designer dresses it was this year! From the trending femme suit to the usual ball gowns and LBDs, there was every colour, every style and every shade of beautiful present. This was for sure worth the long wait! So who exactly made Killer Fashion’s Best Dressed list for the Oscars 2015?

The Best Dressed

My favourite gal & Oscars nominee Emma Stone is hitting the mark yet again, blowing me away in Elie Saab. That light lime green is just stunning with her light complexion, and against her red tresses. Her dress featured long sleeves and a thigh-high split that showed off her satin same-colour peeptoe heels by Christian Louboutin, which she wore with silver cuff bracelets and finished with a red lip. I am in awe, Emma Stone.

Husband and wife John Legend & Chrissy Teigen attended the Oscars arm in arm, with Chrissy absolutely stunning in a sky blue plunging gown by Zuhair Murad. The bodice was embellished & sheer in true Zuhair Murad fashion, with the accents fading out down the waist of the skirt that was accented by a belt, with a very high split on the skirt and finally ruffle detailing. I adore the Old Hollywood waves, the sparkling accessories and that dark red lip for added drama. To say I love this dress and this look…is an understatement. I am in love! Definitely a Best Dressed title holder!

Singer & Oscars nominee Rita Ora really blew me away. I absolutely love her Marchesa look for the red carpet. This strapless gown in that midnight blue hue, with a gold brocade trimmed panel along the neckline and a matching gold motif on the waist, and then that exaggerated fishtail skirt & train…just like with Chrissy Teigen’s look, I am in love. I especially love that Rita’s styling was kept to the perfect minimum; gold drop earrings, a chic & sleek hairstyle and nude lipstick. Just perfect! Rita Ora also performed ‘Grateful’ during the show, from Beyond The Lights.

Lady in Red

50 Shades of Grey actress Dakota Johnson appeared on the red carpet also in red, donning a Saint Laurent one shoulder textured dress, with a v-cut neckline. The embellished shoulder strap and a side split that added some oomph to the look, which she styled with Forevermark Diamonds. A fringed ponytail and metallic leather clutch finished up her look.

Behati Prinsloo attended the Oscars with husband Adam Levine, donning a ravishingly beautiful embellished Armani Couture strapless, which featured a slight two-toned effect. Her black beaded necklace was an interesting touch to the look, with which she wore her hair styled into a chic slicked back bun and red lipstick to finish.

Never one to miss out on a statement look, Solange Knowles stunned in this Christiano Siriano ensemble. The singer wore a relaxed two-piece, which featured oversized pants and a caped longsleeve top with a cross-over feature. I really love her deep waves afro and her makeup, this look is beautiful & powerful.

Rosamund Pike has finally knocked the fashion ball out of the park, with this amazing Givenchy Couture red gown. It features a scalloped strapless neckline, lace textured body in an hourglass design with silk panels on the waist and a mid thigh-high split too. She added red barely there sandals, a nude lipstick and barely-there makeup to a pulled back updo for the perfect rounded up look.

Reporting live from the red carpet was Giuliana Rancic, who looked divine n an embellished lace & sheer gown by Mariel Dagner. Her scarlet red gown featured capped sleeves and sheer panels with a fishnet overlay and floral appliqué that is just ravishing. Saint Laurent heels, Forevermark Diamonds, and a red Rauwolf clutch added the perfect finishing touches to her on-the-job look. G recently changed her hair, and I love it!

Black Beauties

Margot Robbie brought her sexy A-game when she hit the red carpet in this plunging cowl dress by Saint Laurent, which featured sheer sleeves and a statement gold & blue necklace from Van Cleef & Arpels that the actress revealed was originally created for the Duchess of Windsor circa 1930. Her newly dyed blonde hair was styled into a chic straight bob with a pop of red lipstick to finish up the look perfectly.

Kelly Osbourne wore a black lace gown that featured a tiered waterfall full skirt with lace detail between the folds. Her gown was worn with triple-strap sandals, a colourful clutch and her lilac hair was styled into a fauxhawk quiff that showed off her head tattoo.

Sienna Miller is wearing Oscar de la Renta, which features a midnight blue lace body and velvet-black trims with a squared neckline and structured details on the bodice, as well as peekaboo lace on the skirt. Her swept back hairstyle and contoured makeup with the pink lip is a great finish for the Oscars.

Following her gorgeous looks to the Spirit Awards, Cate Blanchett wore a glamorously dark look by Martin Margiela. Her black fitted gown featured frayed shoulders and a slight train, with a turquoise beaded statement necklace by Tiffany & Co. that really worked perfectly with the dress choice. A pulled back hairstyle and pink lipstick choice were the perfect finishing touches.

White Hot

Looking ever so gorgeous, Jenna Dewan-Tatum stunned in this white plunging gown by Zuhair Murad Couture with a twisted sequin & beaded embellishment design. I adore the chic & sleek fit with the accented waistbelt and that sparkling pavé cuff bracelet, along with her flawless makeup and her slicked down ponytail. J’adore Jenna.

Taking my breath away as she always does, actress & Oscars nominee Marion Cotillard attended in a white embellished & polka dot motif gown by Christian Dior Couture, of course. The dress featured an interesting gathered cape back with a black tied panel. Her look was accented by pearl & pavé swirl earrings by Chopard with a chic slicked updo and cat eyeliner.

Oscar winner Lupita Nyong’o attended in a custom-made Calvin Klein Collection gown that is embellished in pearls and sequins all over, (which has over 6,000 pearls!). It also featured a plunging neckline and a keyhole detail, with back straps and a long skirt to finish. She opted for drop earrings and simple makeup with her short natural hair.

Adding to the trend of the night, Oscars nominee Julianne Moore wore a custom Chanel gown on the red carpet. It features all-over embellishments with floral motifs along the neckline and around the hips, elongating the actress’ body. A very chic bun hairstyle, sparkling disc earrings and a subtle red lipstick helped create her finishing look. Julianne Moore also won the Oscar for Best Actress in a Leading Role for ‘Still Alice’.

Also opting for a white & embellished look was actress Anna Farris. She attended in Zuhair Murad Couture, that was just a beautiful sequin covered confection and looked every bit as beautiful as you could imagine. From her perfectly blonde tresses to the mini box clutch by Judith Leiber and her barely-there makeup.

Monochrome Madness

Turning heads, Reese Witherspoon walked the red carpet in an off-the-shoulders fitted gown from Tom Ford with a black neckline trim & waistband and an off-white body, that really worked beautifully on the actress. A tousled hairstyle, barely there makeup and sparkling earrings by Tiffany & Co. completed her look.

Working a black & white look, Patricia Arquette looked great in a dual monochrome dress that featured an asymmetrical sweeping-styled bodice with a cape and a fitted black skirt. This Rosetta Getty look was quite impressive as I’d been quite uninterested in her previous red carpet looks recently. A pulled back hairstyle with a red lip, subtle smokey eyes with diamond drop earrings to finish. Patricia Arquette also won the Oscar for Best Actress in a Supporting Role for ‘Boyhood’.

Oscars nominee Meryl Streep attended in this twist on a femme suit by Lanvin, with white bodice dress and velvet fitted skirt, which she wore with a tuxedo jacket and bold waistbelt. I adore her styling from the sparkling earrings, a box clutch and the peeptoe heels to her swept back hairstyle and nude pink lip colour.

Metallic Mania

Singer Faith Hill looked lovely in a fully embellished gown by J. Mendel. The long sleeve plunging look was accented by a pearl & diamond-pendant necklace that she styled with her sweet pixie cut and smokey eyes.

Adding some young sexiness to the red carpet show was Boyhood actress Lorelei Linklater, who attended in this black & sheer embellished gown by Gabriela Cadena. It featured black panels and sheer panels embellished with red & black sequins in branch-like designs that were strategically placed on the bodice. A high split showed off her platforms, styled with long mermaid waves, dark eye makeup and red lipstick to finish. it’s fresh and very age-appropriate.

Jamie Chung blew us away in this princess gown by Yanina Couture. It features a sheer bodice and firework bursts of embellishments, with layers of tulle on the skirt and a dark blue overlay too. A curled hairstyle and dewy glow finish rounded up this look nicely.

Laura Dern attended in a metallic sweetheart strapless by Alberta Ferretti that looked so good on the tall actress. I love the gunmetal greys & blacks on this look, and her statement pendant necklace from Bvlgari added some more oomph to the look. I do wish she had opted for a colourful clutch rather than an embellished silver one, or even a bold lip instead of the nude choice but I still adore this dress.

Oscars nominee Felicity Jones joined the stars in an embellished look, wearing a cut out halterneck dress. The floral appliqué & pearl-accented bodice and full skirt are an interesting duo, created by Sarah Burton for Alexander McQueen. A full fringe and swept up hairstyle with drop earrings, smokey eyes and a nude lipstick completed her look.

Tracey Edmonds took it to another level in her embellished capped sleeves bodice, that featured Celtic-like designs and a black skirt. I love her hair & makeup with this look, such a gorgeous finish to the look.

Keltie Knight wore an embellished bodice gown with a black skirt and very high split that showed off her black barely there sandals and were complimented by silver & emerald-green drop earrings.

Taking many breaths away, Jennifer Aniston looked lovely in an embellished Atelier Versace. Her asymmetrical panelled gown was all kinds of sweet & sexy, with its glittering beading and the side split.

Carmen Ejogo joined fellow stars on the red carpet in a sequin embellished slip dress by Houghton. Its scooped neckline and thin straps added to the majestic look, which she teamed a Chopard choker necklace to and finished with a wavy bob & deep pink lipstick.

Joining the Hollywood stars was multi-Grammy award winner singer Lady Gaga, who brought her usual dramatic entrance in this custom-made Alaia. Ignoring the red leather gloves she wore, her gown was pretty darn impressive. The textured gown featured oversized shoulder sleeves and a full skirt in white & silver embellishments. A red hair piece in her wrap-around ponytail and matching red lipstick with lined eyes completed her preshow look. Lady Gaga later performed a medley honouring The Sound of Music, which you can watch here.

Pretty in Pink

Anna Kendrick attended in a custom-made candy pink halter gown by Thakoon with a keyhole detail that was accented by a pavé halterneck piece. A sexy but sweet look for the actress, she added smokey eyes, sparkling jewels and an updo to finish.

Stepping out in a pale pink gown, actress Zoe Saldana brought some sexy but sweetness too, donning this corset gown by Atelier Versace. The gathered detail on the waist with a ruffle on the front of the skirt are pretty details, and along with the cascading train it’s a winning look. I adore the wispy updo and that shiny statement neckpiece too.

Gwyneth Paltrow showed up on the red carpet in this Ralph & Russo Couture gown, with an asymmetrical neckline, one full sleeve and an oversized rose accent on the shoulder.

Bold Blues

Gina Rodriguez arrived in a beautiful dark blue silk gown by Suzy Amis-Cameron. Her debut look featured a sleeveless cut with a cinched waistband and draped-to-the-back neckline. This is an eco-friendly look from the Green Dress Campaign.

Coming straight from yesterday’s lovely monochrome look from the Spirit Awards, Louise Roe attended the Hollywood’s red carpet in a blue concoction, also by Monique Lhuillier. The large strapless gown featured a straight neckline and gathered detailing on the full skirt that trailed off into a train, while showing off her silver strap sandals. Dramatic eye makeup and a messy wet look hairstyle completed the look.

Jessica Chastain attended in a dark blue look, as her dress by Givenchy Couture featured an embellished bodice with a cowl neck and cinched-in waistline accentuating the hourglass shape, finishing with a leg split on the skirt. A sparkling necklace with her red hair and lined eyes rounded up her look.

Donning a cornflower blue gown, Ava DuVernay stepped out in this laser cut look that featured half bell sleeves and a pleated bodice & skirt. I do wish she had opted for a softer makeup look, though I totally get the darkness with the blue gown.

A Splash of Colour

Luciana Pedraza attended with husband & Oscars nominee Robert Duvall, but really she was the star of the show in this pale orange embellished gown by Elie Saab. The plunging neckline, the romantic tulle skirt, the embellished clutch, the makeup & hairstyling. Everything was just so on-point!

Opting for a sheen look was actress Kerry Washington, whose Miu Miu strapless silk bodice gown, with peplum detail and embroidered designs that complimented its textured column skirt, had her all smiles “because it’s an easy, no fuss dress!” She added Fred Leighton jewels to the look for the finishing touches.

Also joining the embellished trend, Jennifer Lopez wore this princess gown by Elie Saab, which is similar to Luciana Pedraza’s look with a plunging neckline and tulle skirt, though in a beige hue in comparison the above orange pastel. A pink smokey eye with a light candy pink lipstick and a slicked back ponytail completed the singer/actress’ look.

America Ferrera joined the party on the red carpet in a chiffon seagreen v-cut gown by Jenny Packham. It also featured an accented waistbelt and an ombré skirt, which the actress teamed a Rauwolf clutch and turquoise stone & silver drop earrings by Irene Neuwirth that added to her beautiful curled hair and barely-there makeup.

Singer & actress Jennifer Hudson walked the red carpet in a canary yellow strapless by Romona Keveza. Her column gown featured an asymmetrical peplum detail and thin waistbelt, that she styled with silver & green jewels and on-point makeup including a soft matte lip. Jennifer Hudson later performed ‘I Can’t Let Go’ following the In Memoriam piece.
