Best Dressed at Film Independent Spirit Awards 2015

Ahead of tonight’s Oscars, the 30th annual Film Independent Spirit Awards took place yesterday in sunny Santa Monica, California. The stars walked out on the pink carpet in gorgeous gúnas, with smiles and casual chic taking prominence. So let’s see who made this year’s Killer Fashion Best Dressed list!

Film Independent Spirit Awards

The Best Dressed

For a second running of this Killer Fashion title, both Emma Stone & Emmy Rossum headed the best-dressed honour on the night. Emma Stone attended in this gorgeous black creation, which featured a peekaboo-embroidered bodice with a high neck & capped sleeves, cut outs on the waist and a crepe midi skirt. Donning Monique Lhuillier for the awards, Emma truly blew me away, letting the dress do all the talking with minimal accessories, Christian Louboutin pumps, smokey eyes and a nude lip. Just gorgeous!

Emmy Rossum couldn’t look any more different from her fellow actress, donning this super sweet Oscar de la Renta number. The sheer white dress was adorned with colourful floral appliqué, especially so on the waist with a subtle panel striped skirt finish. Her pink matte lipstick and deep pink pumps complimented the look so beautifully, and I adore the hairstyle with this look.

Monochrome Madness

Kristina Bazan looked wondrous in her lace embroidered white dress, which feature a low neckline on spaghetti straps, with a nude underlay. Attending with Piaget’s CEO Philippe Leopold-Metzger, she of course donned Piaget jewellery, white sandals and held a red clutch that matched her lipstick.

Jessica Chastain is always a favourite, in both movies and on the red carpet, and she surely didn’t let me down in this lovely Saint Laurent number. Lace full sleeves with sporty striped cuffs and a mini A-line finish created the perfect look for the actress to the Spirit Awards. Matching designer satin pumps, a red manicure, statement pavé earrings and a no-fuss hairstyle completed this beautifully.

Style icon Louise Roe looked great in her monochrome choice by Monique Lhuillier. Opting for a black & white block dress, it featured different lace textures with the skirt’s overlay showing off her Nicholas Kirkwood heels. She added jewellery by Wanderlust & Co. and a blue & white square clutch by Les Petite Joueurs, with a slicked back hairstyle to finish.

Melissa Benoist attended in a gorgeous black gown by Maiyet. The strapless v-cut out neckline added subtle sexiness to the simplistic LBD, which she styled with gold jewellery and fresh-faced makeup. I would have loved a statement necklace or lip colour with this look though.

Actress Katherine Castro headed out in a black jumpsuit, which featured a squared plunging neckline and side cut outs too that was a great fit for the Dominican Republic-born beauty. Pink ankle strap platform sandals, a pinky-red lip colour and an updo with a stone-cut cuff bracelet finished up her look.

Jena Malone went all-out for the Spirit Awards, as her Ulyana Sergeenko Couture gown shows. The look featured a black strapless sweetheart neckline bodice, a triangular cut out on the midriff and an A-line skirt to the ankles with quilted pale blue, white & black designs. The artistic look also featured a neckpiece that connected to the back of the dress. Black pumps, an icy blue box clutch and her fiery orange hairstyle, which I’m not a fan of, completed the look.

One of my favourite funny gals Kristen Wiig is always an interesting one for the red carpet shows, and last night she stunned in this elegant Yigal Azrouël dress. The embroidered & textured strapless featured a peekaboo triangular cut out on the bodice too that added subtle sexiness to an overall cutesy look, complete with Bionda Castana bow-accented nude pumps and Jennifer Fisher jewels to finish.

Kerry Washington attended the awards in a beautiful black creation by Balenciaga. The actress’ dress featured black sheer, gathered sleeves cut off at the shoulders, a structured halterneck bodice that was accented by a frilly halterneck strap, diamond-shaped sequins on the hips and a midi skirt finish. I would have loved a strong lip colour for this as Kerry opted for a nude finish with the updo hairstyle, but I do love her embellished Manolo Blahnik pumps and Tiffany & Co. jewellery.

Metallic Mania

Darby Stanchfield wore a Teresa Helbig creation, floating on the red carpet in a romantic nude pearl & crystal-embellished dress. The look featured sheer tulle cuffs, which the actress perfectly styled with pavé LeSilla sandals and gold drop earrings by Melinda Maria, along with a nude manicure, a dewy makeup finish and an updo. Gorgeous!

Giving us some sexiness for the pre show, Blanca Suarez wore this Emilio Pucci dress that was fully embellished in hues of peach, black, white, silver & dark green. The plunging neckline sure showed off cleavage that the actress attempted to distract from with a long, gold multi chain pendant necklace. Black strappy sandals, a box clutch, a sideswept fringe updo and on-point makeup completed her Spirit Awards look beautifully. This look really gives off a Miley Cyrus vibe; in fact, I honestly thought it was Miley before I saw the full look.

Sheila Vand opted for a metallic all-over embellished playsuit by Parker for the red carpet. The v-cut plunging neckline complimented the cut in the sleeves, which she added Michael Kors heels to as well as a red mani-pedi & matching red lipstick with a wavy updo and kohl-rimmed eyes.

Showing up to another red carpet show, Julianne Moore had some fun in her Christian Dior Couture mini dress. The yellow & green hues were mixed in with silver and peekaboo nude on the all over embellished & paillette-encrusted mini that also featured black embellishments along the neckline and trims, creating an illusion of a collar neck. Platform ankle strap sandals and a straight hairstyle completed the actress’ look. Julianne Moore continued her winning streak, taking home the award for Best Lead Role for ‘Still Alice’.

Exquisite Explosions

Opting for a colourful look to the awards, actress Rinko Kikuchi attended in Chanel. The floral printed midi featured a paneled bodice and ¾ sleeves with a minimal white lace trim on the skirt. Silver metallic strappy sandals, which I’m not in love with at all, and playful sky blue eye shadow with a red lip completed this colourful finish.

Gillian Jacobs looked pretty in Preen, donning this geometric-printed colourful mini dress. The artistic ensemble was a great fit for the actress, which she added red stud-accented pumps by Barbara Bui to, silver jewels and tousled waves to finish.

Stana Katic wore an interesting full-length gown by Chloe to the awards. The embroidered motifs were accented by feather trims on a relaxed fit shift dress that also featured pockets. A gold metallic cuff by Jennifer Fisher with barely there black sandals by Saint Laurent completed her look.

I adore artistic prints on the red carpet, and actress Aubrey Plaza never disappoints with her style. She wore a Suno mini dress to the awards, complete with full sleeves and a high neck. The firework-floral printed dress was colourful, eye-catching and quite girly, all of which I loved. Casadei sandals, an updo and subtle smokey eyes with a pink lip completed her Spirit Awards look.

A Splash of Colour

Opting for a fresh colour, actress Aja Naomi King wore a canary yellow in A.L.C. The young beauty’s skin tone works so beautiful with this shade of yellow, though her simple & straightforward mini dress didn’t do too much talking. She did bring her A-game when it came to her shoes, adding snake printed Kurt Geiger heels to the look and finishing with wavy hair & smokey eyes. Jenny Slate upped the ante in her nude lilac & yellow Jacquard look donning Mary Katrantzou. The colour block gown featured letter-embossed designs all over with a strapless bodice and full skirt, which she matched her nude manicure and barely there makeup to. Piaget jewellery and Jimmy Choo sandals completed her look. Click here to buy Jenny Slate’s Spirit Awards dress!

Always one for fun on the red carpet, actress Olivia Munn stepped it up in a Prabal Gurung gown that featured a colourful embellished halterneck bodice with a pastel orange pleated maxi skirt and a slight caped train too. Her signature dark hair was styled into soft waves with a matching ring & earrings set and red lipstick to finish.

Yvette Yates looked pretty in pink donning a strapless full skirt midi. The ombré, striped design was ever so girly, perfectly styled with curly hair, simple jewels and snake strappy heels.

Opting for a striking elegant look, Anne Heche wore a lovely navy blue satin look that featured a petal-like neckline, with sheer panels on the bodice creating a cut out illusion, with a pleated A-line skirt to finish. The midi dress was accented by a gold plaque waistbelt and worn with black strappy sandals and a box clutch too. I do wish her shoes were different colour; nude pumps would’ve worked much better. But I do love her barely there makeup and curled hairstyle.

Selma actress Carmen Ejogo attended in a jumpsuit look by Roksanda, which featured a colour block panel on the front bodice that also matched her lipstick. The fit of this one-piece was so flattering for the tall beauty, which she accented with black sheer pumps and a dark orange beaded clutch by Rodo.

Cate Blanchett always looks so elegant, but at the Spirit Awards the actress opted for a funky style instead. Wearing Schiaparelli Couture, her cornflower blue midi dress featured colourful heart motifs all over with capped shoulders and a ruffled hem. She added purple velvet pumps by Brian Atwood and barely-there makeup to finish.
