On Sunday night the MTV European Music Awards 2014 took place in Glasgow, Scotland for another round of music celebrations, as voted by European fans. Although superstar & rapper Nicki Minaj hosted the show, not many of the music industry’s stars showed up on the red (well black) carpet ending up with this post to be my shortest list to date.
The Hostess with the Mostest
Nicki Minaj didn’t actually walk the red carpet, which for the host of a show seemed rather uncanny and disappointing. She did however sport several looks throughout the show, opening in a khaki coloured Peter Hidalgo creation that consisted of a glitter-threaded knit bra and a ruffle ruched waterfall skirt with an extremely long 14ft train, as Nicki was floating a few feet in the air above ground! Metallic fingerless dinner gloves, rubber military heeled boots and long mermaid waves completed her first look.
Her second look was in fact identical to the first Peter Hidalgo look, except instead of khaki she then wore charcoal grey.
Onto the next look, the hip hop & rap artist chose a white Roberto Cavalli mini dress, with signature lace and embroidery along with a scooped neckline and cut outs on the waist.
Later, designer Gareth Pugh was the chosen look, donning a 60s inspired cape dress with monochrome hypnotic designs, which she wore in a bob wig to match the theme.
She kept the bob but changed into Alexander Wang for her next look, literally sporting a golf-inspired look in her white bodycon mini with a green contrasting collar.
Saint Laurent was also part of the wardrobe change, as she wore this embellished long sleeve mini dress with poker straight hair, embellished heels and red lipstick.
Another look included a sweet & sassy red strapless that featured seashell-like layers, was cinched in on the waist with a wide skater skirt finish. Her strappy sandals were a matching red, as was her oversized heart arm cuff.
Nicki also opted for a long black dress that featured a mesh top-half with a plunging neckline and rhinestone & sequins to the naval and a giant cocktail ring to finish.
And finally, in the pressroom, the ‘Anaconda’ rapper changed into a black tulip peplum playsuit, a textured green overcoat, Saint Laurent heels and poker straight hair with red lipstick. Nicki also won Best Hip Hop Artist.
Metallic Mania
Tallia Storm definitely created a statement with her look on the carpet. She wore patent leather leggings, a white shirt and cummerbund, an oversized bow tie and a glitter embellished blazer by Tom Ford. She wore spiked Lita platforms, a Paul Frank monkey ring and carried a tiny bedazzling clutch that bears the Scottish flag, but it’s her wispy in-the-air faux-hawk that really grabbed my attention. I actually really love this look, though I do wish she’d opted for different shoes.
Singer songwriter Charli XCX was also attending in full sequins, donning a two-piece femme suit in black & white from fashion house Moschino. Going for the full Barbie effect, she wore her hair in long soft waves, cat eye makeup, pink matte lipstick and sunglasses! Ever the fun & flirty girl, Charli added furry Lita sandals and a white bauble-adorned handbag.
Vicky Pattison looked fabulous in a black sheer embellished gown that featured geometric striped panels, which she wore with a nude slip. Her Miss Francesca Couture mermaid halter gown did wonders for Vicky’s already-hourglass body, which she styled with a bouffant updo and red nails, dramatic dark eye makeup & a nude lip. Sexy and event-appropriate!
Italian singer Alessandra Amoroso donned a black & gold sleeveless gown by Dsquared2. Her maxi dress was worn with a black leather belt on the waist and featured a thigh split that showed off her black & gold ankle strap heels. Her waterfall-cut bob tied in well to the overall look, along with her raspberry lipstick and metallic box clutch. Alessandra also won World Wide Act Award.
Monochrome Madness
Laura Whitmore wore an LBD by Grace MMXIII, which was an embellished skirt and plunging blouse for her red carpet duties. She wore gold disc necklaces and Topshop heels with her look, and her shaggy blonde hair matched with dark smokey kohl-rimmed eye makeup.
Jourdan Dunn wore a deep plunging white shift dress with a thin metallic bandeau piece that showcased her bob haircut very well. The tall model also wore an array of sparkling rings & arm bangles and white pumps by Christian Louboutin.
Ariana Grande wore a cut out dress by Cristiano Burani. Thankfully she let her hair down in a straight do, with a white manicure and smokey kohl-rimmed eyes.
Legendary Alicia Keys also stepped out to the EMAs, even in her heavily pregnant stage. The mama-to-be looked stunning in a full length and long sleeve silver shimmering dress, with an embellished plunging neckline mesh insert. A silhouette that showed off her bump proudly, the singer worked the look with a quiff updo and smokey eyes.
A Splash of Colour
R&B singer and dancer Alesha Dixon attended the EMAs in a Mary Katrantzou ‘Oriane’ navy & pink striped shirt dress with a colourful owl motif, that she wore with Sophia Webster caged sandals, a sleek straight hairstyle and plum purple lipstick.
Kiesza wore an extremely interesting multicoloured feather mini dress. Her choice featured strap panels on the shoulders and waist adding to the fun tribal vibe along with brown, black & white sandals and tangerine red lips & nails, and a plaited topknot hairstyle.
Scottish songstress Emeli Sandé was one of the presenters on the night, and she wore a white midi shift dress with a purple sheer lace…jacket? I quite like the mix of these colours, which Emeli wore with a statement choker necklace and loop strappy sandals and styled her hair into a plaited topknot & full fringe.
