New York Fashion Week – September 11th

Marc Jacobs

The Marc Jacobs show turned serious fashion heads, as one of the main highlights of the show was actually the beauty – and the lack of makeup. François Nars of NARS Cosmetics was head of the beauty prep backstage at the show, however not one makeup brush was in sight; he prepped the models’ faces with only mosturiser. Genius! The show itself consisted of over 50 looks, the majority with cinched in waistbelt details, in earthtone hues, large button accents, military style pieces, bags & bags, Birkenstock sandals and shaggy, long-fringed wigs.

Juan Carlos Obando

The Coloumbian designer’s show was beautiful and elegant, and was all about his home country of Colombia. The collection consisted of monochrome as well as pastels & vibrant hues and leopard print pieces, rounding up to an impressive 30 pieces that really reflected the designer well. Sunglasses, silk headscarves and attitude perfected the show from open to close.

Calvin Klein Collection

This collection was every shade of blue, with knitwear, long & elongated silhouttes cinched in with waistbelts, strutted up and down the catwalk by models in Lucite platform sandals. Head designer, Francisco Costa, also threw in some red & white for the full American effect but each piece really was as beautiful as the next.

J.Mendel

For his latest collection, designer Gilles Mendel worked with artist Enoc Perez creating unique pieces with a serious artistic edge. Over 40 looks were thought up between the pair for a brilliant show & line up, that were either painted on, woven, beaded or pieced together for that original look. There are so many looks I’m in love with!

Ralph Lauren

The Ralph Lauren show consisted of 50 looks, which all reflected a more sportier feel for the designer’s more high end collection. Camel was a major colour running throughout the pieces, but also ventured into vivrant orange, yellow, pink & purple as well as classic all black and all white looks. Serious sparkle was a feature on many of the models as both jewellery and bewelled details, most notably that statement necklace worn by model Vlada Roslyakova.
