Following the successfully fashionable red carpet of the Oscars, the after party was as fabulous for many of the night’s winners, nominees and those who attended the Elton John AIDS Foundation Oscars screening rather than the ceremony. Grammy-winners were also in attendance; no doubt the Vanity Fair After Party was a seriously great party. So who really looked good enough for the Killer Fashion Best Dressed list?
Colour Blocking
One of my favourite models teamed up with one of my favourite designers and absolutely killed it on the carpet for the Vanity Fair after party. Chanel Iman wore a stunning royal blue Zuhair Murad Fall 2013 Couture gown, with beaded embellishment, cut out and sheer panel detailing. The plunging neckline worked in the young model’s favour, and she opted for sideswept crimped wavy hair & smokey eyes with minimal Henri Sillam jewellery. Such a great look on Chanel!
Comedic actress Leslie Mann attended the screening before the after party, and to both she donned a sunny yellow Jenny Packham Spring 2014 gown. Her polka dot relaxed fit was slightly cinched in at the waist with cute as a button lace appliqué on the neckline. She teamed her Spring-forward look with a matching yellow clutch, pinky red lipstick and black mascara. Her look is so effortlessly gorgeous!
Emma Roberts rocked the red look working a Fendi Spring 2014 ensemble. Her mini dress featured capped sleeves and was slightly cinched in at the waist, and is made of silk jacquard fil coupe giving it that lovely texture throughout. Emma kept with the red, donning Brian Atwood ‘Kaela’ ankle strap heels, a deep red matte lipstick and contrasting with silver Dior Fine Jewellery and a Swarovski Crystal embellished ‘Kiosque’ clutch.
Sienna Miller also wore red, opting for Alexander McQueen Spring 2014. Her strapless sweetheart dress was styled with a gold & red waistbelt, McQueen gold bangles up her arms and a striped McQueen clutch. Sienna kept her upper half clean, with soft-brushed hair, dewy makeup and a nude lipstick.
Working the after party trend, actress Aubrey Plaza wore scarlet red too, choosing an Emilio Pucci silk dress, with interesting features; a triangular sheer panel in the middle of the bodice, lace peekaboo on the sides and a slightly ruffled tiered skirt. I love this dress! Aubrey styled with gold Lorraine Schwartz jewellery and a gold Stark clutch box, and heels by Brian Atwood. Kohl-rimmed eyes and a neutral lip finished her hot look.
Also opting for red was English actress Naomie Harris. She wore a sweetheart strapless dress by Naeem Khan Fall 2014, which was a black & red embroidered patterned dress that just stunned. Though her limp straight hairdo let her down a tad, the dress and styling of an Edie Parker clutch and minimal jewellery that let her away with it.
Kristen Bell didn’t stop at wowing, as she stepped out in a red Zuhair Murad Spring 2014 dress, with its plunging neckline that accentuated her bust without overdoing it and gathered detailing on the bodice. She matched her purse & lipstick to the dress, which I do wish she hadn’t as it gets lost against the stunning dress.
Trending in White
Now an Oscar-winning actress, Lupita Nyong’o changed into a fresher look for the evening’s party, wearing a white & green Miu Miu gown. Her white deep v-cut gown features green & silver gradient-fringed beading on the bust and a contrasting ribbon waistband. The statuesque look was great on the dark-skinned beauty, and I’m glad to see she kept her Fred Leighton jewels and hairband on. The actress held her Oscar award firmly and high down the carpet. Congratulations Lupita!
Oscar-nominated actress Amy Adams changed out of her navy look into a refreshing and trendy white asymmetrical dress by Carolina Herrera. Her custom-made Grecian princess dress looked wondrous on the movie star, with its pleating detailing, waistband and cheeky side cut, which she styled with Tiffany & Co large drop earrings and Jimmy Choo ‘Mariah’ sandals.
Anne Hathaway flipped her black & bejeweled look for a black & white Viktor & Rolf ensemble, looking über classy in the bodice sweetheart strapless. The column dress featured structured detailing on the black bodice whereas the white skirt was simple and elegant. I really love this look; it’s so beautiful. Anne teamed the black & white with Charlotte Olympia ‘Daphne’ heels and a Roger Vivier box clutch.
Princess Clotilde of Savoy, Princess of Venice and Piedmont, looked wondrous in a white & black Maxime Simöens Pre-Fall 2014 look. Her half-sleeve full length dress featured a black shirt collar and thin waistband to compliment the white of the main body, whereas the sheer and embellished black side panel added sexiness to what otherwise would have been a simple look. The French actress teamed the look with a pearl bracelet, drop earrings, a chic updo and kohl-rimmed eye makeup.
Singer Lady Gaga attended the soiree wearing Atelier Versace. Of course she did! The custom-made gown features sheer cut out paneling on the sides accented by Swarovski crystals and an embroidered skirt & train. She let her platinum blonde down in a sleek sideswept look with shimmery eye makeup and a coral nude lip. Gaga also wore ridiculously high platform sandals, and Swarovski cuffs & earrings to complete her look.
Shimmer Shimmer
My beloved Jennifer Lawrence changed out of her red carpet gown into this sexy Tom Ford Spring 2014 mini dress. Her light-reflecting mirror embellished mini had a sheer back that was perfect for the young actress, as it was edgy and so very fashionable. Her full sleeves complimented the short cut, showing off JLaw’s legs and her shorter heels by Tom Ford strappy sandals. I love it all!
Top model Miranda Kerr attended wearing KaufmanFranco Fall 2014, donning a bugle beaded plunging halter neck gown with, almost unnecessary, Jacob & Co jewellery. Her sexy number had all eyes on her, especially now that she’s seen sans Orlando Bloom, (though he saw her on the red carpet and gave her a kiss & hug). The Australian model teamed her hot look with sideswept waves and a coral lipstick.
Keeping with the embellished trend, Evan Rachel Wood opted for an emerald green gown by Elie Saab Fall 2013 Couture. The actress did my favourite designer justice, as she looked stunning in the plunging dress with its all-over beading in art deco design, which Evan Rachel teamed with red lips & manicure, a Judith Leiber metallic clutch, Neil Lane jewellery and old Hollywood glamour waves. Just beautiful, I’m in awe!
Kate Hudson changed out of her silver number into this black & nude embellished Zuhair Murad Spring 2014 Couture gown. The actress’ gown featured sheer tulle around the knees on her décolletage, giving the illusion of a slight plunging neckline. Kate styled with a Salvatore Ferragamo black clutch and some black & gold rings.
Rosario Dawson looked great in a slate blue fully sequined gown by Vivienne Westwood Couture. Her vampy neckline added more oomph, though I wish she’d opted for different heels, as her Jimmy Choo ‘Talison’ sandals didn’t work for this look. David Yurman drop earrings & rings and a Jimmy Choo ‘Mini Tube’ clutch finished off her sparkling look.
Black is Back
My favourite country star Taylor Swift attended the afters wearing a shimmering black Julien Macdonald gown, which was floor-length and fully embellished with sheer panels on the sleeves & back. Sporting her new shorter haircut, TayTay opted for her signature red lipstick and a manicure to match, as well as an Emm Kuo ‘Abrolhos’ minaudière clutch, heels by Tamara Mellon and silver & ruby jewellery by Lorraine Schwartz. Stunning Taylor!
After her great choice for the Oscars red carpet, Anna Kendrick went for 2/2 in this Atelier Versace Spring 2014 Couture black & nude number. The singing actress looked every type of sexy in her keyhole halter neck dress that featured black sequin & beaded art deco designs on the mesh skirt. She also let her hair down, which was a wise choice for this dress and switched out the red for a black Rauwolf clutch.
Christina Hendricks also wore black and looked lovely in her L’Wren Scott choice. Her deep sweetheart neckline cut complimented the figure-hugging shape, though I wish the length were to the floor. The bodacious actress wore a sheer embroidered cape with the look, which I would’ve preferred hat it just been a scarf to the back. Her red hair was kept in a voluminous updo, with pink lipstick and dramatic eyes, which I absolutely love!
Funny gal Regina Hall also opted for a sexy look to the party, wearing an Alon Livné black sheer gown, which showed off the bodysuit of the LBD. It also featured beaded embellishment and cut out details along with its plunging neckline, for which Regina’s long wavy hair worked perfectly. She wore ankle strap heels with her risqué choice and kept her makeup neutral enough.
Feminine & Floral
Zooey Deschanel looked sexy, and this tends to be a rare as the actress is so good at looking simple & sweet. She wore a floral & polka dot print ruffled dress by Oscar de la Renta Spring 2014. Though the dress is a sweet multicoloured confection, her voluminous hair, doll eyed mascara and pale red lipstick added a bit of va va voom to the strapless number. She added a matching red & gold handbag and Mikimoto jewellery.
Alison Brie attended the after party in Giambattista Valli, donning an ivory & pink floral print dress. Her strapless number featured draped detailing on the bust and skirting, which she teamed with Dana Rebecca Designs jewels.
Emmy Rossum didn’t opt for anything sexy when she chose this extremely ethereal Monique Lhuillier Fall 2014 gown. She looked like a princess in her sweetheart neckline gown with its stepped hemline on the skirt and sheer overlay that reached down the sleeves too, all that was adorned by sparkling intricate beading. Emmy opted to wear the lace boots off the Monique Lhuillier runway with this gown, which really did work well, and she finished off her after party look with a dark red lipstick and a slicked back updo. Just gorgeous!
Model Petra Němcová wore a romantic rose gold gown by Ralph & Russo Spring 2014 Couture. Her floral embellished tulle gown featured a long train and a striking black velvet waistbelt, matched perfectly by her choice of a black & gold striped clutch.
Print Crazy
Irish actress Saoirse Ronan was in attendance donning a fully printed Valentino Pre-Fall 2014 gown. Her butterfly-embroidered gown featured a high neckline and capped sleeves, and was an array of blue, red, green and white on the black body. She styled her beautifully breathtaking gown with jewellery by Rona Pfeiffer and Graziela Gems and wore Brian Atwood ‘Stearling’ platforms, and finished it all off with barely-there dewy makeup and an updo.
Like the young Irish actress, Rashida Jones wore a patterned gown from Valentino Spring 2014. Her gown consisted of pink, purple & gold embroidery on a champagne tulle body with a rounded neckline and full sleeves. I actually really like this look on the actress; it suits her quirky, fun personality to a tee, and styled it well wearing gold pearl drop hoop earrings by Dior Fine Jewellery, a gold leaf hand bracelet by Ana Khouri and matching dark pink lipstick.
