Best Dressed at the Oscars 2014

The 86th Academy Awards took place last night in Hollywood, on an overcast Sunday evening, and all the biggest acting stars turned out to walk the red carpet and attend the prestigious film awards ceremony. The red carpet arrivals were dressed in designer from head to toe, with some of my favourites being the most outstanding at the soiree. I hope my readers got to watch the Oscars too of which Ellen DeGeneres did a brilliant job hosting, but if not, at least you can take a look at Killer Fashion’s best dressed list.

Colour Blocking

Jennifer Lawrence looked wonderful in scarlet red, donning a strapless by Christian Dior. She repeated her necklace draping down the back look from last year, which was also Dior and still looked so beautiful. I just love this look; her dress features large peplum on the waist and is statuesque, showing off her figure well. JLaw did fall on the red carpet but she laughed it off in her awesomely graceful way. It wouldn’t be JLaw without something on the red carpet! JLaw was also nominated this year, though sadly she didn’t win.

June Squibb looked wonderful in emerald green, wearing a shimmery beaded gown and jacket to match. Her Tadashi Shoji number was perfect for the 84-year-old Oscar-nominated actress, and she was just glowing from ear-to-ear.

Pink performed at the Oscars honoring The Wizard of Oz, donning a sparkling red gown. Her Elie Saab Fall 2013 plunging dress featured an open back and a thin waistbelt, and was in ode of the film’s iconic ruby slippers. You can watch her performance of ‘Somewhere Over the Rainbow’ here.

Amy Adams wore a navy Gucci Couture strapless with peplum features on the bust and waist, which she teamed with Tiffany & Co jewellery. Her slicked back updo worked well with her soft smokey eye makeup, and also helped her coral earrings pop.

My beloved Sandra Bullock opted for a midnight blue look with a sweetheart neckline and gathered detailing on the bust, by Alexander McQueen. Sandra wore her hair in sideswept curls, which looked wondrous against her complexion, complimented by her nude lipstick and dark eye makeup, and finished the ensemble with Lorraine Schwartz jewels.

Pastel Powders

Lupita Nyong’o has done it again! The actress wore a sky blue plunging fully pleated gown by Prada. The dress features a built-in waistband and a v-cut plunge on the back too. Her flowy, ethereal number also featured shimmery sequins on the train and was styled with a pavé hairband, earrings, an oversized ring and a snake wrap bangle, all by Fred Leighton. Lupita mentioned that the colour “reminds her of Nairobi, and she wanted to have a little bit of home”. Lupita also won Best Actress in a Supporting Role & Best Picture for ‘12 Years A Slave’.

Camila Alves looked so darn beautiful wearing pastel pink, stunning in a longsleeve dress by Gabriela Cadena. The dress featured long draped feature from her left sleeve, and a v-cut at the back. She teamed her powdery look with my personal favourite Charlotte Olympia heels and Lorraine Schwartz jewels.

Cate Blanchett looked like an ethereal mermaid wearing a sheer nude Giorgio Armani dress, with sequin embellishments and pearl floral drop earrings. The Oscar-nominated actress styled her look with tousled waves and natural makeup. Cate also won Best Actress in a Leading Role for ‘Blue Jasmine’.

Jenna Dewan-Tatum came along with her gorgeous heartthrob husband Channing Tatum, wearing a beautiful Reem Acra gown. Her nude number featured beading on sheer material over a sweetheart neckline that transforms into a frothy ruffled skirt & train. I love how ethereal Jenna looks; she always manages to look sexy and classy at the same time!

Penélope Cruz presented on stage donning a power pink gown by Giambattista Valli. Her draped asymmetrical dress features a bow waistband and a wrap over. The Spanish actress teamed the look with a black Loewe clutch, Chopard jewels and Jimmy Choo ‘Vibe’ heels.

Supporting her wife & hostess of the evening Ellen DeGeneres, Portia de Rossi stepped out in a white & nude pattern textured dress that features a cross halter neck straps at the back and caviar pearls throughout with a wide waistband that reaches down to the hips. Her Naeem Khan dress is just so beautiful, feminine and romantic; it’s a great look for Portia.

Kristen Bell attended wearing a corset-fitted strapless dress, designed by Roberto Cavalli. Her lilac gown features lace panels as well as lace up ribbon on the back and frothy tiered skirt, which she wore with shoes by Brian Atwood. She said that she was going for a “Frozen vibe”, inspired by her Oscar-winning animated film.

Naomi Watts wore a gorgeous white Francisco Costa by Calvin Klein dress. Her all-over embellished dress is refreshing and the capped sleeves worked really well with her straight & simple hairstyle and Bvlgari ‘Serpenti’ clutch, statement necklace & bracelet. Breathtaking!

Metallic Mania

Angelina Jolie was also in attendance at last night’s Oscars, where she wore a beautiful metallic dress by one of my favourite designers, Elie Saab Fall 2013 Couture, that featured all-over light-reflecting sequins on the sleeves and body, as well as sheer paneling around her décolletage, a scooped high neckline and a cinched in waistline. Gorgeous, just gorgeous! Angelina was previously honored at the Academy Awards’ Governors Ball for the Jean Hersholt Humanitarian Award.

Giuliana Rancic wore an ethereal taupe gown that features a crystal adorned floral appliqué bodice with a billowing skirt by Australian designer Paulo Sebastian, which she teamed with Sergio Rossi pavé sandals and Forever Mark diamonds. G kept her styling chic with an updo and and smokey eye makeup.

Kate Hudson sparkled in a silky silver number that was embellished all-over and especially on the shoulders. Her plunging Versace Atelier dress featured a draped wrap over effect around the bodice & waist, which looked gorgeous on the actress, and was teamed with a cape for Old Hollywood Glamour. Soft blonde waves and smoldering makeup finished off Kate’s beautiful look.

Kristin Chenoweth wore a beautiful gold & bronze metallic dress by Roberto Cavalli. Her art deco gown features a wide scooped neckline that compliments her pixie cut. She wore Neil Lane gold jewellery, which finished off her look perfectly.

Jennifer Garner looked lovely in a gunmetal grey gown that features all-over embellishment and fringe detailing, by Oscar de la Renta. I think it’s fair to say she was a little inspired by ‘The Great Gatsby’.

Classic Black

Anne Hathaway wore Gucci from head to toe, donning a sparkling statement LBD with light-reflecting gemstones on the front bodice that really compliment the black satin dress. Her figure-hugging look also has a back split that showed off her Gucci ‘Lili’ platform heels, which was styled with her now-classic pixie haircut and a very cool Gucci ‘Aristographic’ plexiglass clutch bag.

Olivia Wilde stunned in black & white, showing off her baby bump in a Valentino dress. Her halter neck gown was very flattering on the mama-to-be, with the peekaboo white at the back. Olivia, who attended with husband Jason Sudeikis, wore Lorraine Schwartz drop earrings and black & white bangles as well as an oversized ring. She styled herself with a sweepy updo and cat eyeliner and a nude lipstick, looking so darn hot!

Charlize Theron opted for black too, with a sexy y-cut neckline and a tiered ruffle skirting & train by Christian Dior Couture. The actress wore a diamond pendant necklace by Harry Winston and finished the look with Christian Louboutin heels. Her short cut was kept chic with subtle smokey eye makeup and a black manicure.

Julia Roberts of course attended, wearing classic black, in a fully lace gown. Her look features a plunging neckline complimented by sheer lace in between, as well as peplum detailing and a column skirt to finish. The Oscar-nominated actress teamed her Givenchy Couture LBD with Bvlgari jewellery and a chic updo.

Anna Kendrick opted for black with hints of red, wearing a J. Mendel Fall 2014 RTW dress. Her dress features draped material and red sequin detailing on the bodice with a pleated skirt and a cut split giving her opportunity to strike ‘the Angelina’. The split showed off her Christian Louboutin peeptoes and she added another pop of red with her Rauwolf gemstone clutch.

Young actress Emma Watson stunned in a shimmery charcoal LBD, wearing a Vera Wang Fall 2014 RTW dress. Her knit dress kept her warm and looked wondrous with her red lipstick and smokey eye. She teamed her look with a beautiful half-up half-down hairstyle with Jessica McCormack stars hairclips, and an array of jewellery by Solange Azagury-Partridge, Repossi Berbère, Anita Ko, Anya Hindmarch, Vintage 1932 Chanel and Boucheron!

Margot Robbie shocked us debuting a dark hairdo, which she teamed with a dark black strapless gown by Saint Laurent, with an embellished bodice and a large bow at the back that was as gorgeous as Margot’s figure.

Menswear

The men stunned as much the women and my favourite looks were by actors Matthew McConnaughey & Jared Leto, who won Best Actor in a Leading and Supporting Role respectively for ‘Dallas Buyers Club’, Channing Tatum, Jim Carrey, Chris Hemsworth, Will Smith; E! Red Carpet Live presenter Ryan Seacrest; and Oscar-nominated singer Pharrell Williams.
