The 19th Annual Critics’ Choice Movie Awards were held Thursday night in Santa Monica, California. Another sunny occasion, the big movies of this year were nominated along with many of their cast. The red carpet had a tough show to follow (Best Dressed at Golden Globes), but the actresses did not disappoint. There was glamour, elegance and sexiness, and even more sparkling jewellery. So who made Killer Fashion’s list?
Berry Beautiful
I love Sandra Bullock, and I really love her look to the Critic’s Choice Awards. Her plum coloured tiered ruffled look, custom designed by Lanvin, was breathtakingly beautiful. The dress’ slight sweetheart neckline was complimented by a bejeweled hanging waistbelt and drop earrings by Fred Leighton, which were the only jewellery Sandra wore. She teamed it with a Roger Vivier ‘Pilgrim Mini’ clutch, styled her hair in a straight do and went for dramatic eyes and nude pink lippy. Just gorgeous! Sandra also won Best Actress in an Action Movie for ‘Gravity’!
Irish gal Sarah Bolger looked lovely & fresh in her orangey-red number. The young actress wore a column dress by Safiyaa London with stunning, sparkling Avakian jewellery, including a wicked claw cuff. She finished the look with beige pumps, a silk clutch and Old Hollywood waves.
Another lady in red was Christina Applegate, who wore a Marchesa Pre-Fall 2014 cocktail dress. Her red wide v-cut lace dress featured red tulle overlay that gathered on the waist, which overall created such a romantic look. She wore nude Christian Louboutin ‘Vendome’ peeptoe heels, held an Edie Parker clutch and wore Neil Lane jewellery. A chic updo and pink metallic lipgloss finished off her look.
Juliette Lewis was a nice surprise at the awards, stunning as the lady in red. Her plunging Zac Posen dress with capped sleeves features pleated detailing on the hips, which finished in a relaxed pleated skirt and train. The singer/actress teamed her red-hot look with a leopard print box clutch by Brian Atwood, Rupert Sanderson heels and minimal jewellery by Coomi. She finished her look with a berry red lipgloss and dark eye make up.
White Hot
Newcomer Lupita Nyong’o wore a white cut out dress, custom designed by Calvin Klein Collection. The actress’ dress looked stunning against her dark skin (much like her red number at the Golden Globes), which features a bandeau behind a Y-cross halter dress that comes in on the waist. The Kenyan actress styled this white look with a Calvin Klein Collection metallic box clutch, minimal jewellery by Kimberly McDonald and Paul Andrew custom shoes. Just gorgeous! Lupita also won Best Supporting Actress for ’12 Years a Slave’.
Annabelle Wallis looked stunning in white lace. Her Burberry Prosum Spring 2014 gown features all-over lace with off-the shoulder and waistband detailing. The English beauty teamed it with a matching fold-over Burberry Prosum ‘Petal Bag’ in white & lilac. A chic ponytail and dark eye make up finished off the look beautifully.
I do love how fab Julia Roberts looked. Her black & white paintbrush-patterned dress by Juan Carlos Obando was simply styled with a fold-over clutch y Barbara Bui and jewellery by Dana Rebecca Designs. Julia went neutral on the makeup and finished with a tousled curls do. She and Meryl Streep were gal pals on arrival, and both donned sunglasses for the duration of the red carpet.
Abigail Breslin attended the awards ceremony wearing a grey dress by Badley Mischka. Her wide v-cut dress features blue & silver floral appliqué with mirror sequins on the sheer overlay as well as on the sleeves, with beaded trims to finish. The young actress teamed the look with sideswept curls, brown smokey eye and a dark red pout. I do like the dress and the styling, but I feel Abigail can look much better.
Black Beauties
Following her bright and beautiful look at the Golden Globes, Margot Robbie went dark for the Critic’s Choice Awards, donning a black Elie Saab Spring 2014 RTW jumpsuit. Her jumpsuit was altered to be more fitting, and looked fab on the tall actress. The lace sleeves & back add a little touch of sexiness, which Margot works well with her brushed hairdo, cat eye make up and nude lipstick. She finished the look with Ileana Makri statement rings and an Alexander McQueen knuckle box clutch.
Nia Long stepped out in black, wearing Jovani. The curvy actress’ dress features sheer inserts and a train, which in all created a simple yet super sexy look. Nia teamed her dress with black & silver round clutch that features a wildcat emblem, side curled hair, statement earrings and dark red lipstick. I really love this whole look, Nia really brought out sexy without overdoing it.
Kristen Bell also attended wearing black as the blonde actress wore Pamella Roland Fall 2012. Her halter gown features one side of the bodice embellished in shimmery sequins whereas the res of the gown is of pleated silk, finished with a long train. The gown also features keyhole detailing and an embellished waistband. Kristen added dramatic dark cat eyes whilst keeping the rest of her make up neutral and styled her hair into a quiff-updo.
Stepping Into Spring
My beloved Jessica Chastain was very Spring-forward and romantic, wearing a cypress green Nina Ricci Pre-Fall 2014 gown. Her dress features ruffle detailing on the neckline & sleeves, with a lace sheer back and finished with a train, which Jessica styled the dress with Brian Atwood ‘Tribeca’ black peeptoe heels. The natural redhead wore an exquisite braided updo with orangey-red lipstick and neutral make up.
Amy Adams was extremely pretty in pink donning Roland Mouret. Her textured floor length dress features gathering along the neckline that drapes at the shoulders creating a cape look to the back. Her figure-hugging gown was worn with minimal Neil Lane jewellery and Christian Louboutin ‘Lady Peep Toe’ heels to finish. Amy also won Best Leading Actress for ‘American Hustle’!
Dark Does It
America’s beloved Oprah Winfrey was also in attendance, donning an olive green Azzedine Alaia figure-hugging dress, which was accented by a black leather bow waistbelt. The fully striped dress featured a pleated skirt from the thighs down. Oprah added dazzling Lorraine Schwartz gold bracelets, statement earrings and a green stone ring. With a nude manicure, dark green smokey eye, and bronze lippy, the TV presenter kept her hair voluminous in afro-like curls.
Leslie Bibb also looked wonderful in her black & white House of Roland Spring 2014 concoction. The actress ensemble is made up of a wrap over v-cut bodice attached by sheer mesh to a wrap over waterfall black skirt that had floral patterns throughout. The back of her dress also featured embellished floral appliqué on the sheer material. Leslie kept with the dazzling look, teaming her gown with strappy sandals and a glittery clutch, both by Jimmy Choo. She finished the look with a chic twisted bun and neutral make up.
