Best Dressed at People’s Choice Awards 2014

On Wednesday night, the 40th People’s Choice Awards were held in Los Angeles. For the first awards show of the new year, many of the music stars were absent on the night, but TV and film’s favourite actors & actresses stepped out to wow us on the red carpet and helped put on a great show. Many of my favourites won awards on the night and you can watch the whole show at the end of this post.

The Hostess with the Mostest

Kat Dennings & Beth Behrs were hosts of the show and graced the red carpet in stunning gowns before changing into three looks on stage. Kat wowed on the red carpet in a David Meister black & red rose print gown with a slight v-cut along the neckline. She added some sparkle via her ring, bracelets and gem-adorned headband. Later Kat’s first on-stage look was a purple-blue Oliver Tolentino Couture sweetheart dress with peplum detailing on waist and bust; her second look was a black-on-black one, wearing a Ted Baker long sleeve jumpsuit with a peekaboo keyhole detail; and her final look was by Black Halo Eve, she donned an off-the-shoulder gown with peplum detailing which was accented with a sparkling embellished waistband.

On the red carpet Beth wore a white & black Giuletta simply gorgeous dress, with a straight neckline bodice, its half black-half white skirt and front mid split. David Webb jewels finished her look. For Beth’s first look during the show, she wore a sparkling Kate Spade ‘Estelle’ A-line minidress; her second look was another sparkly mini, this time by Dilek Hanif, a fringed metallic gold mini that matched her gold strappy sandals which she twerked away to (watch it here); and for her final look Beth wore Naaem Khan, a white lace v-cut minidress with intricate detailing. The ‘2 Broke Girls’ actresses did a great job at hosting the show.

Monochrome is Here to Stay

Jennifer Hudson looked amazing in white, wearing Kaufmanfranco Spring 2014. The beloved singer/actress showed off her figure in this silhouette crepe dress that was altered from the runway version to be subtler. Her entire look was so effortless; she styled the dress with matching white & transparent Manolo Blahnik sandals, Neil Lane jewellery and the Samsung ‘Galaxy Gear’ smartwatch. Her hair & make up were just as effortless with a dewy glow, bronzed smokey eyes and pink lipstick and a quaff hairstyle. Jennifer & her sister Julia won the People’s Choice Favorite Humanitarian Award, which is very deserving. Click here to find out how to get involved in the Julian D. King Foundation.

Adelaide Kane stepped out to the People’s Choice Awards in a very Spring-forward white dress. The Australian beauty wore a Rhea Costa Fall 2013 flower lace and crepe corset dress. Her peekaboo sheer minidress features lace embroidery on invisible mesh with capped sleeves and a fitted corset. I really love this look, and you can buy it hereAdelaide added white B by Brian Atwood ‘Labrea’ sandals and a Helmer minty green snakeskin box clutch, a large gemstone ring and a crystal bangle by Sophia Jewels to finish her look. Smokey eyes, pink lipstick and an updo completed it all.

Nina Dobrev brought out the glitz and glam to the red carpet in her Jenny Packham Fall 2013 LBD. The actress looked amazing wearing a black long sleeved number with its right side completely covered in sparkling embellishment. Her midi dress was perfectly styled with Charlotte Olympia ‘Tokyo’ silver sandals, an oversized silver rock ring and a mirror box clutch. A messy faux hawk, dark eyes and a neutral lip gloss finished off her sexy look. Nina & Ian Somerhalder also won Favourite On-Screen Chemistry.

Malin Åkerman did look really good on the night. The actress wore a black & white Cushnie Et Ochs Spring 2014 dress. However, the cutouts in Malin’s dress look much larger on the actress than the runway, and showed off Malin’s cleavage more than I would have liked. She did style her look very well, accessorizing with a black patent clutch and black & white ankle strap heels.

Sarah Michelle Gellar stepped onto the People’s Choice Awards red carpet for the first time, and she looked so good! Also donning a black & white look, the actress wore Sachin + Babi Spring 2014. The dress was altered to have a gold gemstone halter neck strap instead of the original white one, which complimented the dress’ draped bodice & pleated skirt. Sarah Michelle kept the rest of her look classy; with gem drop earrings, black patent pointed heels, black round clutch and a large gemstone ring. Smokey eyes, pink lippy and a puffy updo finished her look. Sarah Michelle also won Favourite Actress in a New TV Series.

Heidi Klum was all about drama from head to toe. She wore a black & silver Giorgio Armani creation. Her gown features creative structuring on one shoulder, with a plunging neckline and slight train to finish. Heidi’s styling was totally on-point, as she wore Christian Louboutin ‘Artifice’ heels, Lorraine Schwartz diamond earrings and a twisted braid sleek updo with simple yet dramatic make up.

Sara Bareilles was one of the performers on the night. I love her look, and yet I don’t love it. Her Jill Stuart Fall 2013 all-over peekaboo laser cut dress features a white collar and cuffs, giving it a classy edge. She teamed the dress with black Moschino red lips pumps and a white Charlotte Olympia clutch. I do love that her manicure was an off-gold colour with one red nail per hand to compliment the red lipstick and red lips on her heels. Sara performed ‘Brave’ at the awards, which you can watch here.

‘Glee’ actress Naya Rivera was a beauty in neutral colours, wearing Michael Kors. Her colour block long sleeve hi-lo dress was beautifully accessorized with a gold collar necklace, nude Stuart Weitzman sandals, a black mani-pedi and bronzed beauty makeup. Her hair alone, with its new caramel hue, was a statement in itself. Naya also won Favourite TV Gal Pals for ‘Glee’ with Lea Michele.

Emily Deschanel looked lovely at the awards. Her BCBG Max Azria gown was an array of black, white and powder pink with a geometric v-cut shape, which cut off above the ankle. Emily’s sleeveless dress was styled with Miss Delicious sandals, an Edie Parker silver & black clutch and jewellery by House of Lavande & Swarovski. Smokey eyes and a chic updo complimented Emily’s modern look.

Colourful and Gorgeous

‘The Big Bang Theory’ star Kaley Cuoco wore a dress by Sachin + Babi Spring 2014, donning a fitted black bodice and powder blue box pleated skirt, which features peekaboo floral lattice motifs and cuts off at the ankle. This showed off her matching blue strappy Aperlai ‘Liberty’ sandals and minimal bracelets, outshone by her gorgeous engagement and now her wedding ring. Shout out to Kaley & Ryan on their wedding and marriage! Kaley also won Favourite Comedic TV Actress!

Kaley’s costar Mayim Bialik looked wonderful in her teal mini dress by Watters. The dress had sheer embroidered sleeves and overlay on the embroidered bodice, revealing a sweetheart neckline and was finished with full pleated tulle skirting. Mayim also held a Judith Lieber mini clutch and wore metallic pewter grey sandals to finish. Unfortunately I can’t include Melissa Rauch in the Best Dressed List as I feel she looked a hot pink wrapped up mess… ‘The Big Bang Theory’ also won Favourite Network TV Comedy.

One of my favourite leading ladies, Sandra Bullock, took my breath away in her colourful floral frock. Sandra wore a navy, white, green & lime with petal-like embroidery dress by Peter Pilotto Resort 2014. The asymmetrical embroidery was complimented with a sky blue lining beneath as well as the white wide waistband and navy upper panels. There was a lot going on in the dress so I’m glad Sandra toned down her accessories, only wearing chartreuse green Kurt Geiger ‘Bond’ heels and a navy Jimmy Choo ‘Tube’ patent clutch. Her signature dark hair had relaxed waves and she kept her makeup natural too. Sandra won big on the night, bagging herself Favorite Movie Actress, Favorite Comedic Movie Actress, Favorite Dramatic Movie Actress, Favorite Movie Duo & Favourite Comedic Movie for ‘The Heat’ with Melissa McCarthy!

Desi Lydic was va va voom in her berry red dress by Chiara Boni Spring 2013. The ‘Awkward’ actress donned a sexy low v-cut sweetheart dress accented by a Lorena Sarbu metallic waistbelt, which showed off her gorgeous figure. The statuesque dress also features ruched-like lining. Desi wore her hair in a curved updo, with a black manicure, nude pink lipstick and kohl-rimmed eyes to finish off her look.

Another favourite actress of mine, Lucy Hale, walked the red carpet wearing Gabriela Cadena Spring 2014. Her colourful little number was a perfect stand out dress amongst the neutral colours. The petite ‘Pretty Little Liars’ actress’ one-sleeve asymmetrical dress features an all-over floral abstract print with shoulder embellishment, which perfectly complimented her complexion, her dramatic eyes and dark updo. Lucy finished off her evening’s wear with crystallized heels and clutch by Jerome C. Rousseau, along with minimal jewellery by Dana Rebecca Designs, EF Collection and Graziela Gems. Lucy also won Favorite Cable TV Actress!

Alyssa Campanella looked fabulous wearing a powder blue shiny silk gown. The former Miss USA pageant queen’s dress features an overlay on the upper bodice accented by the bejeweled waistband finished off with a train. Alyssa styled the look with a sequin nude clutch and dramatic eyes with soft bouncy curls.
