The MTV European Music Awards were held in Amsterdam on Sunday night and the red carpet fashion was quite a shock. There was a lot of body-revealing dresses, a lot of black attire and a lot of attitude. Sadly there were less Best Dressed ladies this time round, so I’ve included the best dressed and the not-so-best dressed list. Read on for the scoop and video performances, and congratulations to all the winners on the night.
The Best
Laura Whitmore cohosted the red carpet live feed before the show started, wearing a Fyodor Golan Fall 2013 dress. Her Belle de Jour Collection pick was a white & black satin cocktail dress that features a feather design and peplum waist detail. The long-legged Irish gal teamed the look with black cross strap sandals by Kurt Geiger and a wispy updo.
Laura’s costar Louise Roe worked the red carpet in Mara Hoffman Spring 2014. Her salmon & multicoloured Aztec print skirt & top ensemble was very flattering on her skin tone. The deep sweetheart neckline and cinched in waist accentuated Louise’s great body shape, which she styled with Jimmy Choo strappy sandals and a metallic cuff bracelet.
Rita Ora was quite Marilyn Monroe-esque in a simple black v-cut dress by Calvin Klein. The dress features a thigh-high side split and an almost open back, which complimented Rita’s white blonde hair & red lipstick, and was styled with gold chunky bracelets and an array of rings.
Katy Perry was the most demure to the awards show, stunning in Zac Posen Resort 2014. Her minty-turquoise silk midi dress features slightly exaggerated shoulders and figure-hugging cuts. Retro wavy hair with a Dolce & Gabbana multicoloured floral gemstone headband, Charlotte Olympia nude peeptoe heels and Chanel earrings styled the look, which she finished with natural make up, pink lipstick and a red mani-pedicure. Katy performed her new song Unconditionally, (which you can watch here), wearing a nude & black mirror-adorned bodysuit. She then changed into an LBD, wearing a black bodysuit dress with a v-neckline and a fishnet overlay, and matched Miley with a gold chain necklace and chain waistbelt by Chanel. Katy also won Best Female Artist.
The Risqué
Ellie Goulding wore Dolce & Gabbana to this year’s EMAs. Her black lace see-through dress exposed her lingerie including the high-waisted shorts and was styled with Casadei T-bar heels and array of gold rings. I love Ellie, but I don’t love this look. I wish she’d wear colour and style her hair more.
Iggy Azalea stormed the red carpet in a black one shoulder & cut out dress by Direk Hanif Couture. The dress has black sheer skirting with thigh high splits, which showed off the Australian rapper’s long legs. Iggy opted not to wear the hotpants, begging the question if she went commando, but I know she didn’t. Her now-signature slicked back high ponytail was finished with soft waves and styled with winged eyeliner. Later she stepped on stage briefly to perform Blurred Lines/Feel Good with Robin Thicke (which you can watch here) wearing a two-piece mini dress. The patent leather dress was made up of silver with mesh cut out illusion detailing and over-the-knee silver boots. Iggy then changed into a leather pants & plunging floral patterned blazer ensemble for presenting an award with Ariana Grande.
Miley Cyrus arrived in a Biggie & Tupac “Please Stop The Violence” graphic print dress by NY Vintage. The lace-up plunge halterneck dress features an open back with strappy detail and was worn with black & white Tom Ford over-the-knee boots. Miley opted for Lorraine Schwartz jewellery, naturally styled hair and make up with pink lipstick. Miley opened the show with a short performance of We Can’t Stop, (which you can watch here), donning a silver galactic-style midi dress, purple lipstick and iridescent silver & black platform creepers. She then performed Wrecking Ball, (which you can watch here), in a shimmering white patent & mesh bodysuit with a high leg-cut, styling with white platform sandals & gold Chanel chain belt & bracelets. Miley also won Best Video for “Wrecking Ball”.
The Rest
Bridgit Mendler presented an award on the night, wearing a black full-length dress with a cut out detail on the abs and scoop neck. It was quite a nice look on the singer, if not a little boring.
Ariana Grande stepped out wearing a sweet Mikael D Resort 2012 dress. Her nude & black Baroque embroidered dress features a sweetheart neckline, though she wore an unnecessary halterneck strap with it. Her black glittery heels and white manicure accessorized the look.
