On Friday night, release day, I went to see “Thor: The Dark World” in 3D, and my what a great & enjoyable film it is! The action was full on, there was romance and comedy, and I was in tears twice! But before the film was released, there were the film premieres. The red carpet fashion was also full on and romantic, where the cast walked red carpets in London, Paris, Berlin & LA. Chris Hemsworth, Tom Hiddleston, Natalie Portman & Kat Dennings were amongst the best dressed on many bloggers’ lists. Read on to find out why.
London
Leading lady Natalie Portman wore a selection of stunning gowns to the premieres. To the London premiere, Natalie wore a Christian Dior Spring 2014 RTW gown and top ensemble. Her long sleeved black cashmere top was tucked into a silver metallic jacquard full skirt, patterned with floral design & geometric shapes, was a great look for the rainy evening in London. Jewels by Dior, Charlotte Olympia ‘Monroe’ leather-free black slingback pumps and an oversized black wristwatch by Richard Mille. Slicked back ponytail, smokey eye and nude lips finished Natalie’s look.
Kat Dennings attended the film’s world premiere wearing Vintage Lanvin. Her dress features an asymmetrical black velvet bodice and peplum-waterfall detailing, with an ochre-coloured silk a-line skirt. A deep plum manicure, red lips & eyeliner complimented her naturally wavy hair, and were teamed with a sparkly silver cuff. Although Kat did look great, I feel the look was a slight mess, with the mish-mash of colours and the shapes in the dress.
Joining the leading ladies in London was actress Ophelia Lovibond. She wore a white and metallic number by Burberry Prorsum Spring 2014. Her crêpe dress features an all-over round studded embellished bodice with capped sleeves and a mid back split on the skirt. The midi dress looked beautiful on Ophelia, though her quirky Charlotte Olympia ‘Colette’ poodle pompom accented sandals are cute; they don’t work for me with that dress. Her hair & make up was kept simple with a red manicure, orange-red lipstick and naturally brushed hair. I love that the overall look really compliments Ophelia’s fair skin tone. You can buy Ophelia’s dress online at Burberry now.
In the mens corner, lead actor Chris Hemsworth donned a deep maroon three-piece suit including a velvet waistcoat, teamed with an off-grey paisley patterned skinny tie, all by Dolce & Gabbana.
Tom Hiddleston stunned in a classic black tie look, wearing an Emporio Armani full suit, complete with a tuxedo jacket and a bow tie.
Thor costar Idris Elba walked the red carpet in London-ready attire, donning black pants, a black v-neck tshirt and an unbuttoned cashmere peacoat, all by Burberry. Idris also wore statement loafer boots & black shades to finish his casual cool look.
Paris
In Paris, Natalie Portman didn’t stop the Dior love, wearing a sweet floral appliqué dress. This Spring 2013 deep-v dress features a thin black waistband, all-over blossom sequin appliqué on the black overlay, with a nude slip, for which I’m glad Natalie opted for. The actress kept her look classy styling it with Charlotte Olympia ‘Gilda’ gold sandals, her Richard Mille watch, neutral make up and a soft straight do.
Berlin
To the Berlin premiere, Natalie Portman also donned a Dior white ball gown. Though it’s not a surprise that Natalie wore Dior, she is a brand ambassador after all, she looked elegant & regal and didn’t go over the top either. This strapless gown features a black waistband and slight pleating on the skirt, and was teamed with matching Dior accessories, opting for their Fine Jewellery and a black satin clutch. Natalie kept this look simple and all-about-the-dress with a chic updo, shimmering smokey eye, nude lip gloss and black peeptoe heels.
Tom Hiddleston attended this premiere in a black silk three-piece suit, teaming it with a white shirt, a light grey textured tie and patent black shoes.
Joining his main costars, Chris Hemsworth stepped out in a lux look, donning Dolce & Gabbana. His three-piece suit consisted of a black velvet blazer with satin silk lapels, a white shirt and a plain black skinny tie. He also wore patent black shoes.
Los Angeles
To the Los Angeles premiere, Kat Dennings wore a wonderful dress from the Naeem Khan Spring 2014 Collection. Her figure-hugging dress features all-over red Baroque embroidery on nude mesh, which Kat wore with a nude underlay too. I adore the embroidery detailing along the neckline! The midi dress was worn with suede tan pumps, an array of sparkling jewellery, an Edie Parker ‘Flavia’ box clutch and matching red lipstick & manicure. I also love the side-braided updo Kat wore, and that dress just wows! She definitely showed off her beautiful curves with this look.
Chris Hemsworth looked ever so dashing in his Gucci ‘Signoria’ light grey suit. The lead actor wore a pale blue dress shirt with an ice blue-silver tie, black leather shoes and a black belt. I love this look because, as cliché as it sounds, it really helped his blue eyes stand out.
Supporting his big bro, Liam Hemsworth stepped out in a darker blue, navy wool suit by Christian Dior. The younger Hemsworth wore a crisp white shirt with an off-black tie, Dior Homme shoes and a timepiece watch by David Yurman.
Jonathan Howard was bold in blue, donning an Alexander McQueen three-piece suit. He styled it with a white shirt and a skull & polka dot grey tie. I love this look as stands out on the red carpet, without outdoing any of his Thor costars.
Tom Hiddleston looked dapper in his charcoal grey suit, white shirt & black skinny tie. He added a bit of edge, with his slight beard and his steel on-carpet look.
Jaimie Alexander also walked the red carpet, donning a risqué Azzaro Spring 2014 look. Sexy says it all, as Jaimie wore a full-length and full-sleeved black dress with a long see-through curved mesh panel on the front and the back! Though the panel is covering the lady parts, it is still very revealing. At the back, Jaimie’s bum is rather visible, exposing the fact that the actress went commando on the night. She styled the dress with silver glittery stilettos, an Edie Parker ‘Lara’ clutch and silver feather drop earrings. I do actually love her hair & make up; Jaimie had bronzed smokey eyes with soft pink lipstick and messy braided updo with her fringe asymmetrically framing her face beautifully.
Ming-Na Wen also attended in Hollywood, supporting her fellow Marvel Studios team. The Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. actress wore a pink cocktail dress, complete with a gold box clutch and bronze strappy sandals. I do like her hair & make up, she opted for windswept waves and bronze smokey eyes, but I feel the look is lacking something. Perhaps a different style of shoe or some bracelets would’ve helped.
Stepping out with Ming-Na Wen were her Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. costars, Chloe Bennet and Brett Dalton. Chloe wore a sexy little number, donning an LBD. The young actress’ plunging long sleeve dress features black upper, and a snakeskin-like patterned wrap-over skirt. The short dress was accented by studded strappy sandals and a selection of rings. A black manicure, winged eyeliner and a chic ponytail with bangs finished Chloe’s look. I like everything except those shoes, simple heels would have sufficed better.
New York
Natalie Portman also attended a special screening in New York hosted by Dior Beauty, where she wore Dior once again. Her Fall 2012 two-piece ensemble consisted of a fully silk embroidered bustier and black tapered pants, with Dior pumps. Although I love he flash of colour, and the break away from her gowns, the fit of this bustier doesn’t sit well on her. Natalie also darkened her hair, and wore it down with dark smokey eyes and soft pink lipstick. She finished the look with a hot pink manicure and matching pink pouch inside her Charlotte Olympia ‘Pandora’ Perspex clutch, and Harry Winston jewellery.
Actress Anna Sophia Robb also attended this screening, wearing an all black everything ensemble. She wore Alice + Olivia ‘Stacey’ cropped pants with a sweetheart & peplum leather top and a funnel neck & flared wool coat by Nanette Lepore. The young actress also wore gold metallic pumps, held an iridescent studded ‘Love Spell’ clutch by Nanette Lepore, and kept the look fresh with her blonde waves and neutral make up.
