Actor Neil Patrick Harris hosted the 65th Primetime Emmy Awards in Los Angeles last night. The show itself was full of laughs and memorable moments, musical numbers and more laughs, but most of all well-deserving winners. The red carpet beforehand was just as brilliant, with fruity colours and nudes being the most popular colours, lace and sparkle being the most popular features. It was an overly enjoyable ceremony from red carpet to the last award, and here is Killer Fashion’s Best Dressed list for the Emmys 2013.
Pretty in Purple
Carrie Underwood brought out the diva stops in her Romona Keveža Fall 2013 silk shantung taffeta gown in plum hues with a black waistband. She wore jewellery by Jonathan Arts including a diamond drop necklace. Sideswept hair and dewy skin with dramatic eyes finished her look.
How I Met Your Mother actress Alyson Hannigan also wore a purple gown but by Marchesa Resort 2014. Alyson looked beautiful in this mermaid shaped gown with its large fishtail skirt and draped sweetheart neckline. Alyson teamed her gown with Jay Carlile & Company jewelry and a beautifully embellished Marchesa clutch. Side swept hair and neutral make up finished the look. I love that Alyson and Cobie both wore feminine colours for their on-stage presenting together.
Melissa Rauch was another stunner in plum. Her dress features a peek-a-boo of cross diamond patterned lilac between the folds of her silk column dress, all worn with Stuart Weitzman shoes, teaming with a Rauwolf bag, and Jordan Alexander jewelry, her pop of contrasting colour; turquoise drop earrings and ring.
Going Green
The Big Bang Theory actress Mayim Bialik was outstanding in a green custom dress by Oliver Tolentino. Its sweetheart neckline with an overlay bodice and mid sleeves featured sequin embellishment on the shoulders, elbows and waist, with a contrasting crepe skirt, had Mayim stand out on the red carpet. Old Hollywood waves, a mini green glitter Swarovski ‘Kiosque’ clutch and double drop earrings finished her look.
The young Modern Family actress, Sarah Hyland, continued the green trend, in a CH by Carolina Herrera gown. The plunging dress features black lace overlay with a thick waistband, which she teamed beautifully with Lorraine Schwartz earrings, a cuff and ring. A sleek ponytail and vampy lipstick & eyeliner completed her look.
My beloved Nashville actress and Emmy nominee Connie Britton changed the red carpet game in a gold sequins and turquoise velvet dress by Naeem Khan Fall 2013. She accented this perfectly with Cathy Waterman gold jewellery and a one-of-a-kind Stuart Weitzman ‘Isis’ box clutch. Connie’s strawberry blonde hair was in styled in her signature curls with black eyeliner and pink lipstick.
Brilliantly Blue
E! Live From The Red Carpet’s very own Giuliana Rancic wore blue with sequin & bead swirl stitching, strapless sweetheart neckline mermaid gown by Mikael D with Christian Louboutin shoes. Her Forever Mark jewellery included simple stud earrings and a million-dollar diamond ring!
Carrie Underwood later performed “Yesterday” by The Beatles, changing into an asymmetrical midnight blue gown by Randi Rahm, accented with a sparkling brooch on the shoulder.
Zooey Deschanel wore a powder blue column dress by J. Mendel, with a keyhole feature and ruched detail on left side, that was also had a cut out open back & thigh high side split. Her Chanel oversized ring, voluminous hair and classic fringe were complimented by Charlotte Olympia ‘Paloma’ heels in white. Zooey also confirmed Season 3 of New Girl.
Funny gal Tina Fey stepped out in a Narcisco Rodriguez custom-made dress. Her royal blue wide-v neckline halter dress was figure-hugging and elegant. She teamed the look with Roger Vivier ‘Bibendum’ platform sandals and Fred Leighton jewellery. Tina also won Writing in Comedy for “30 Rock: Last Lunch” with Tracey Wigfield.
Nothing But Nude
Cobie Smulders looked beautiful in a pastel pink J. Mendel dress. A straight neckline with structured stitching along the dress, it also features a gathered back and train. Her Irene Neuwirth jewellery was very simplistic but beautiful, and her smokey eye make up and pink shimmer lipstick worked the elegant look perfectly.
Claire Danes had romantic and ethereal down to a tee. Fish scale sequins on the tulle bodice with a plunging detail in nude mesh and crinoline-and-lace on the netting by Armani Privé. Styled with Neil Lane jewellery and Christian Louboutin ‘Lagoula’ sandals, her hair in a blonde bob and red lipstick finished her look. Claire also won Lead Actress in Drama for “Homeland”.
Julia Louis-Dreyfus wore a sparkling column dress, with a back thigh high split by Monique Lhuillier Resort 2014. A fully beaded gown, it was styled well with simple jewellery by Martin Katz & Lorraine Schwartz, and a nude marbled box clutch by Edie Parker. Julia also won Best Actress in Comedy for “Veep”.
Julie Bowen was one of the many Modern Family stars to walk the red carpet. She wore Zac Posen Resort 2014, a peach coloured gown with huge ruffles on the fishtail skirt that’s structured from head to toe with a v-neckline, as well as shoulder detailing that merge into the cut out back and drape effect on the bodice. She wore Christian Louboutin ‘Hyper Prive’ heels and held an ornate patterned clutch. Absolutely beautiful!
Kerry Washington looked absolutely stunning in a floral ethereal gown by Marchesa Spring 2014. The dress features a gold bodice with tulle skirting and train in nude, with floral appliqué all over, and white ribbon across the bodice and up the shoulders, tying into a bow at the back. Kerry teamed the look with an Edie Parker pearl clutch and simple jewellery. Smokey eyes, a nude manicure and neutral lipstick finished off the look.
Monochrome
Anna Gunn was right on the monochrome trend, but with a twist. Wearing Romona Keveža RTW Fall 2012, her black lace & beaded bodice and dusty pink silk full-length skirt were the epitome of old-meets-new Hollywood glamour. An updo plaited knot and pearl drop earrings finished off her elegant look. Anna also won Supporting Actress in Drama for “Breaking Bad”.
Mad Men nominee Christina Hendricks wore a black va-va-voom dress by Christian Siriano. The sweetheart neckline dress with lace sleeves and a slight peplum and waistband was accessorized with silver & emerald green stacked bracelets, earrings and a ring, teamed with a box clutch by Edie Parker. She finished her look with short curls and blood orange lipstick.
Just like her co-star, Mad Men nominee Elisabeth Moss opted for monochrome. Her black & white Andrew Gn Resort 2014 dress was completely covered in beads & rhinestones. The bodice was paved in black beads whereas the skirt in white larger stones. Neil Lane vintage jewels and a bag by Rauwolf, along with her blonde pixie cut, which she pointed out was pre-Miley Cyrus, finished her look with a pop of red lipstick.
Sarah Silverman was one of the other beauties in black. Wearing a midi bodycon with wide-v neckline, she styled her budget dress with Walter Steiger curved heels. She also wore a gold sequin & nude mini dress with gold sandals for “The Number In The Middle Of The Show” musical number with host Neil Patrick Harris.
Actress Aubrey Plaza arrived in a Marios Schwab Resort 2014 dress. The dress features a black lace mesh over nude lining with full sleeves, rhinestone collar and embellishments along the sleeves, with black zigzag exposed hemlines on the bodice. All was teamed with a Just Fab box clutch, Rupert Sanderson ‘Hydra’ heels and Neil Lane jewellery.
Amy Poehler looked fab in this LBD. Wearing a black straight neckline dress by Basler with Chinese dragon motifs on the waist, she teamed it with an orange manicure and Irene Neuwirth earrings and a ring.
Emily Deschanel wore a dark grey asymmetrical lace dress with one full-length sleeve by Houghton, which she wore with peeptoe pumps by ALDO Shoes. A gorgeous updo and a pop of pink lipstick added to her classic beauty, which I love. In this dress she looks younger than she is, if not the same age as her little sister Zooey.
Malin Åkerman wore an icy grey sweetheart dress with frothy frayed detailing by Marchesa Resort 2014. The dress also had a slight train, which she accessorized with a slate grey box clutch also by Marchesa and sparkling silver jewellery. She finished the look with a beautiful updo and smokey eye make up.
Fruity & Feminine
Anna Faris was fresh and fruity, wearing a lemony yellow Monique Lhuillier Resort 2014 dress. The wrap over & draped effect with a wide-v neckline was styled with an emerald green & silver diamanté salamander brooch at the back of dress, as well as a gold & pearl bracelet, all by Fred Leighton.
Sofia Vergara really was the sexy lady in red. Wearing a figure-hugging mermaid dress, made of red silk crepe-and-lace with a plunging neckline, peplum and fishtail skirting by Vera Wang, the Colombian actress was just va-va-voom and then some! Sofia also wore expensive Lorraine Schwartz jewellery including emerald green-blue-red-and-silver earrings and rings. Soft curled hair and winged eyeliner added to her great smile.
Model and TV presenter Heidi Klum stunned in a fully sequin dress by Atelier Versace Fall 2013 in pomegranate red. The bodycon features a sweetheart neckline with a halter neckpiece. She finished the look with Lorraine Schwartz jewellery, natural make up and a brushed back ponytail. Heidi also won Host in Reality- Competition Show for “Project Runway” with Tim Gunn.
Vera Wang also dressed one of my favourite actresses, Kaley Cuoco, in a burgundy gown that features a sheer bodice boning detail with a pleated tulle skirting and an organza-scalloping accent. Kaley styled her dress with a Jimmy Choo ‘Cayla’ clutch and gold & stone embellished bracelets. Her matching burgundy eye make up was a fabulous addition to her blonde locks. She looked so darn beautiful!
