The Autumn/Winter Trend

Now that we’re in autumn, it’s time to get with the fashion do’s and dress for the Autumn and Winter seasons. With fur, big coats and punk being the top three looks for this duo season, the high street has everything you want, and then some! Killer Fashion explores these big looks and how you can dress for less and still be hot on trend.trend

Faux Fur Forever

The best thing about the fur trend is that you can incorporate it into many different types of clothing and accessories. River Island & ASOS have even upped their game and mixed two trends together, boasting a great selection of faux fur coats. Snoods, scarves, collars, hat & gloves are also plentiful in the faux fur trend.

  • Fur Gilet: If you decide to wear a fully (faux) furry gilet, team it with blue jeans, a white tshirt and heels or ankle boots.
  • Fur Collared Coat: A fur-collared coat or parka is always a great wardrobe choice, especially if they’re in contrasting colours to one another. Team with your favourite jeans & tshirt combo, or be cute in a shirt and shorts combo with tights.
  • Full Fur Coat: Fully furry coats are as soft as they get, and always look luxurious. They can be easily teamed with pretty dresses and skirts with tights, and ankle boots for nights out.

Top tip: always take care of your fur products, read the labels and clean them regularly.

Big Bad Tailored Coats

Big coats are back, and with a tailored beautiful vengeance. This year’s outsized men’s coats trend is not all about the man, but about the largeness and structure. Pastel colours were all over the runways this season too, so no doubt the high street has them too. Pinks are the most popular, and one can never go wrong when they’re “pretty in pink”. Oasis & Ted Baker have great pink choices. But if you prefer monochrome don’t fret, because the stores are still hitting it hard with black & white.

  • Manly Tailoring: A tailored jacket is always a luxurious and elegant staple piece, and men’s tailoring is unisex now. Wear yours with heeled boots, loafers or sneakers and stay cool with rolled up jeans and simple turtlenecks.
  • Cotton Candy: Channel your inner Andie Walsh à la “Pretty In Pink” and choose a coat in an array of pinks and feminine touches. Wear with black colours to make it pop, or be flirty with purples, blues and beige. Team with dresses and skirts, heels and dolly shoes or keep it cute & casual with your favourite jeans and Converse.
  • Capes: The cape trend is also back, with neutral colours being more dominant. A comfortable type of coat to wear, it’s easy to style too: team with ankle boots, knitwear and long sleeved tops.
  • Monochrome: The classic black & white look still hasn’t gone anywhere, and be thankful! As staple pieces are becoming all the range, go for patterns and graphic print as well as all-black coats to stay on top.

Punk Rock Chic

Leather and studs are time and time again the epitome of edginess. The punk trend hit hard this year, turning out tartan, studs & spikes and chains too. Choose from classic red & black combos or go for crazy colourful looks and stand out from the crowd. Look out for leather mixed with woven prints, graphic motifs and vampy make up. YAYER & Freak of Nature @ ASOS (who also have a range of go-to brands) are all over this punk trend.

  • The Leather Jacket: The timeless piece of the punk era, a black leather jacket is still here to stay. Choose from ruched elbows, quilted patterns or be daring with cutouts.
  • Dress in Tartan: Staying true to old school punk, the tartan pattern reemerges through dresses, waist-tied shirts and cut out tops. Team with leather trousers, skirts and of course biker jackets.
  • Punk Prints: Prints that are dark but intriguing are the way forward. Whether it’s text overlapping text, religious imagery or abstract graphics, wear through leggings and pants, dresses and tops alike.
  • Studs, Spikes & Netting: The accessories are just as important as the rest, and you won’t go wrong with these additions to an outfit. Think chunky shoes with silver accents, netted crop tops.
