Rihanna is notorious for changing her hairstyle, and though this year hasn’t ended yet, Rihanna’s hair has had over a dozen styles already. From colour to chopping the locks, Riri is on top of her hair game.
January
Riri started off the year donning a dark brown cropped do, which was cute and reminiscent of her Good Girl Gone Bad video for “Take A Bow”. Within a week of this look though, she changed to sport long ombré dip dyed hair with a side shave à la R&B friend and singer, Cassie. Riri showed off this look in her photoshoot with Terry Richardson. In late January, the pixie cut was back with ombré highlights but not for long, because on the last day of that month, her long ombré hair was back again!
February
The dip dye hair was here to stay, and it did so for her music video “Stay”, exposing her shaved side. During the Grammys week, Rihanna chose mid-parting and curled locks for appearances at pre- and post-Grammy parties, as well as the Grammy event itself including her two performances. For her first unveiling of the Rihanna For River Island collection, she kept her mid-parting. She showcased the collection at a fashion show in London.
March & April
However, for the collection’s launch in-store, Riri returned to her side sweep and side shave, with an auburn tint. This look continued for a while, until the kick off of her worldwide tour, Diamonds World Tour. The first handful of shows saw Riri sporting blonde dip dyed curls that transitioned back into ombré and then back again! The result was a sexy strawberry blonde look, which Rih kept and wore in brushed out tight curls, plaits and caps.
May, June & July
This month started off with super long ombré to blonde hair, but quickly transformed to all blonde with dark thick roots and side shave. As Rihanna entered her European leg of the tour in June, she sported caramel blonde hair with a full fringe, which I was lucky enough to see at her concert in Dublin. The blonde wore off towards the end of June, leaving Rih with more caramel coloured hair. This was very evident at the Chanel Haute Couture Fall 2013/2014 fashion show during Paris Fashion Week in July. She dyed the hair back to blonde for the next two weeks, but at the beginning of week three, when she debuted a bold look to the blonde, ice grey hair. She kept this do for the remainder of the month.
August & September
With her tour over, so was the long hair. Riri chopped the locks (weave) and returned to her natural black curly hair. She flew back home too, for the Crop Over Festival in Barbados, stunning in the traditional and body-baring costume. After her vacation, Riri returned to New York, donning a shorter black crop with a short mullet. As the weeks have passed and gone into this month, she’s grown the mullet at the back and kept the rest short. Keeping the sides shaved and jet-black colour, Rihanna has had quite the transformation since January. What is in store for us in the last couple of months of 2013?
