Best Dressed at the Oscars 2013

The Academy Awards (aka the Oscars) were held on Sunday night in the Dolby Theatre, Hollywood, Los Angeles.  And my what an awards show it was! But before the show could start, the red carpet was full of wow-factor glory, from subtle dresses to full-on gowns. It was quite the spectacle, so let’s take a look at the Best Dressed.

You can watch the whole Oscars Show on the official website.

The Academy Awards (Oscars) 2013

The Nominated Beauties

Jennifer Lawrence stunned in a Christian Dior Haute Couture ballgown, in a pretty pale pink and white shade. The dress was fully embossed with hearts and floral patterns, in a full-skirted ballgown. The dress was so big that minimalism was needed for everything else, which Jennifer achieved easily; teaming the gown with a long beaded necklace by Chopard which drips down the back, diamond drop earrings, a silver mirror box clutch, rings and a fuss-free updo. Jennifer also won the biggest female Oscar on the night, Best Actress in Leading Role for ‘Silver Linings Playbook’.

Amy Adams, who was nominated for Best Actress in Supporting Role for ‘The Master’, wore an beautiful Oscar de la Renta gown, in a pale blue and grey hue. Her gown featured a bodice with a deep sweetheart neckline with glistening pearl linings, and a full ruffled skirt with a train, which was the real wow factor. Like JLaw, Amy kept her jewels to a minimum, wearing large double diamond drop earrings and a diamond encrusted bracelet which were by jewellery designer Moa. A slightly voluminous updo with bangs finished Amy’s fairtyale look.

The wonderful Jessica Chastain wore an old Hollywood glamour number. She took to the red carpet in Armani Privé, wearing a metallic bronze and gold fully sequined dress that features geometric illusions. Yet another sleeveless dress, with a sweetheart neckline and slight train, Jessica teamed the dress with a vintage Harry Winston 1960s gold & silver diamond bracelet and silver chandelier earrings. The nominated actress, Best Actress in Leading Role for ‘Zero Dark Thirty’, grabbed attention with her fiery red hair styled into old glam side parted waves and hot red lipstick. Jessica said “she wanted to look very ‘Happy Birthday Mr. President'”, a la Marilyn Monroe.

Zoe Saldana, who was also a nominated actress for Best Actress in Supporting Role for ‘The Words’, wore a very interesting dress. Her white dress featured intense floral appliqué on the chest to the waist, a satin waist belt finished into a large side bow, a front split where the train was tiered into grey, charcoal and black undertones, all designed by Alexis Mabille. Zoe finished her look with long pearl drop earrings, silver rings and black strap sandals by Roger Vivier. The heels should have been swapped for something a bit classier though, because this dress so full with detail.

Anne Hathaway wore a surprisingly tame dress, opting for a pale pink and satin dress by Prada. Though it was not the most outrageous choice to wear, the geometric shaped dress with cross straps and a closing bow at the back, was teamed beautifully with a large diamond stone necklace by Tiffany & Co. which drips down the back, small silver stud earrings and a blazing diamond silver and red serpent bracelet cuff. Her pink lipstick and pixie hairstyle finished her look. Anne also won the Oscar for Best Actress in Supporting Role  for ‘Les Misérables’.

The Fabulous and Famous

Actress Kerry Washington, whose first time to be at the Oscars was shocking news, wore a wonderful Spring time dress. The Miu Miu number was two-toned with its bodice featuring crystal and sequin embellishment, a minimal bow on the waistband and a train-finished skirt. The coral hues were perfect for the occassion, averting attention from the monochrome dresses on the red carpet, which she teamed with red pointed heels. Kerry also wore a stunning Fred Leighton ring & Chopard earrings.

Les Misérables actress Amanda Seyfried wore a wondrous custom dress by Alexander McQueen. Her lilac halter neck dress featured keyhole cut out and intricate silver floral appliqué all over the dress and fades towards the train. Amanda finished her look with an updo, a McQueen clutch purse and hands-on-hip poses.

Charlize Theron was smoking in white, wearing Christian Dior Haute Couture. Her a-line dress in white silk has a v-cut neckline with an embroidered and glitter embossed peplum detail. Charlize teamed the white dress with sparkling diamond bracelets and small stud earrings by Harry Winston, all which showed off her pixie blonde hairdo. Beautiful!
